      It's a bit of an apples to oranges comparison though. When you make a story you make a series of promises to the audience, this thing I've set up will lead to something later and you should care. CZcams doesn't have that expectation. You've got more or less a blank slate, your past work doesn't have to influence what you do in the future. A story is a singular project, a CZcams channel is a series of many projects. Outside influence is only as strong as you let it.

    • @KetsubanSolo
      @KetsubanSolo Před 5 lety +9

      @@mariokarter13 you'd like to think that, but it's not that easy. Subscriber count and fame is a double-edged sword, and subconciously, you'll start trying to feed into giving the audience what they want instead of doing your passion projects, especially when money is involved.
      I never had a monetized channel, but back in the day, I used to make MUGEN videos. One day I had a space jam mashup in there and it started gaining popularity. Eventually, I started focusing on mashing Space Jam up with whatever I could find and making a funny vid thumbnail by shopping Charles Barkley's face onto stuff, and started taking requests when people asked me to mashup Space Jam with such and such (most famously, Maffew of Botchamania used some of my mashups and on one occasion asked me to do one especially for him, but I didn't think anything of it until my online friends were like "holy shit dude Maffew is asking you for space jam mashups")
      Slapping Space Jam onto something isn't hard but I wanted those views+subscribers so I kept doing it even when the process got more and more robotic, and started making less and less of what I actually wanted to do.
      So in summary, popularity can hurt creativity, and I am so sorry for helping to popularize Space Jam mashups

      It is a hot take we could stand to see more often with more movies! I get in arguments with my husband because we'll see a movie and he walks out like "that was AWFUL it makes me wish I was DEAD" and I'm like "...I thought it was fine." I don't know if people have just developed these astronomically high expectations or what but I basically watch the trailer, and if I like the trailer I go into the movie expecting to see a very long version of the trailer. And more often than not that is exactly what I get so I'm satisfied. But other people are either expecting something monumentally mind-blowing from even solidly "meh" trailers, or they just have a pathological need to hate EVERY MOVIE.

    Pepper Potts was actually in the iron man suit for the climax of the third iron man movie, she kind of saved the day w it. Although it’s quite the reach to have her suddenly fighting again years and years later despite her literal child being her explicit first priority at nearly all times, it’s not out of place to see her in the suit and there is the appropriate groundwork for that to happen.

      It is worth watching the first few seasons of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (even if it's never something you would consider watching) if only to experience Jenny's parody-work in "Friendship is Witchcraft." (This czcams.com/video/H4tyvJJzSDk/video.html video is pretty damn cool, too.)
      As a film/advertising student who more or less dropped out after realizing the growing control content-producing corporations like Disney are having through integrated advertising and social engineering (there's a longer story here, but tl;dr - my favorite movie used to be Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and then I learned it was part of a 3-part propoganda-movie deal between Frank Capra and the US govt.) and ideologically not wanting to contribute to that even in an ancillary way, personally, I find the most inspiring part of Jenny's channel to be the deep-cuts that she finds of people making art for its own sake, and that those people have the courage to put their bad, half-baked fantasies - about being trapped in a island with Josh Hutcherson, for example - out there for the whole internet-connected world to see.

    Slightly unrelated to Endgame BUT... This video made me realize exactly why Groundhog Day sticks in my head so much more than any other popular time travelling media. Back to the Future, Doctor Who, and Life is Strange are all amazing; hell, LiS is probably the video game that's had the biggest impact on me, but almost every time travel story is about consequences and the future and making sure the future isn't ruined. Groundhog Day is the only one I can think of that is about the exact opposite; a lack of future and a complete lack of meaning and consequences. I had kinda an "ah ha" moment at 13 minutes in and had to pause the video to realize that was exactly why Groundhog Day always stands out to me. Sure it's a good movie outside of all that, but it's about the COMPLETE opposite of almost every other time travel movie that comes to mind

      Up until Endgame he has rage issues and goes into a dissociative state where he gets so violent that he becomes a risk to everyone and everything around him. The fact that he turns green and swol doesn't make this any less true. He's very much a representation of a domestic abuser, a loved one who you know is a sweet and kind and caring person until suddenly they're a violent rage machine that might kill you and you're never really sure when that will happen. The avengers films try to tone that down and point that destruction in a good direction, but that's what the hulk IS: it's banner refusing to take responsibility for his own actions.

I was floored when I realized that she did these and was also half of "Sherclop Pones" that created the masterful parody of My Little Pony, Friendship is Witchcraft. (I'm grateful for having seen MLP if only for getting to laugh my ass off start to finish through FiW.)
      There's a lot I don't like about how Star Wars has been going, from little, nit-picky things to the de-canonization of the EU (even though I hardly read any of it myself) and the (Marvel) Extended-Universe-approach to telling these new stories.
      I'm mad that Disney is so petty, cut-throat, and vindictive in its business practices. I wish I could live in the timeline where the Disney company failed and Robin Williams was alive and was making passion projects where he had full artistic control, and that those kind of things were the things that "sell."
      I can't speak for your whole viewership, Jenny, but if you need to move on from this format to other things and only maybe do these about films/whatever that you feel really passionate about, good. Please do :)
