  • Alex Albon is having an insane season with insane point scoring, and a genius driving style to make the fw45 look faster then it really is. Can Williams make the comeback they were hoping for.

      @@F1Unchained fact that Alex is currently Williams number 1 driver, the team is building the car around Alex's skillset. Logan is therefore the sacrificial lamb on his team. When Alex was on RB, we all knew the team went all in for Max. They desperately wanted Max to win the championship and their efforts proved it. But RB had such a toxic work environment, they expected Alex to place top 3 the moment he was promoted up to RB. That's a HUGE expectation to ask for from a rookie driver. Alex is in a far better place now. Low expectations is proving his worth as a F1 driver. All the top teams are looking for Alex's service. Let's just hope he signs with a team (preferably Williams) that can deliver him a car to win some races and podiums.

    Albon has been my favorite driver to watch since 2019. The mixed emotions through the 2020 season and inevitably getting dropped left a sour taste because I felt he was capable of so much more. Its lovely seeing him perform like this
    It is also interesting you mention the karting techniques. It could be a contributor to a lot of his success in the Williams right now because when you look at his junior career he was a god at karting

    Alex learned a lot while driving DTM and GT cars for a while. It's not only how to be fast with a low downforce setup, but he also defends beautifully with it. He kind of forces his line on a closing car by adapting enough "high downforce" line to avoid shunt and lunges but enough of his line to win the next straight as well.

  • @euandykes

    Isn't that a motorcycling thing? Trail braking. There's a driving technique in V8 supercars whereby the drivers lightly press the braking on the straights, so that brake boost pressure is primed for hard braking. It's a trick that allows for later braking. Might also be a DTM thing too. Albon did DTM with Liam Lawson. Both are different things though. Trail braking on a motorbike has the effect that it squats the rear. With these new ground effect cars, they seem to be super sensitive to pitch. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a sticky suspension setup that during long straights, a slight tap on the brakes pitches the nose up and allowing the faster airflow a less drag. Might be the reason Williams is so fast on the straights. They did after all pioneer active suspension, maybe someone was reading through the old team notes.

    • @F1Unchained
      @F1Unchained  Před 8 měsíci +1

    • @euandykes
      @euandykes Před 8 měsíci

      @@F1Unchained I did it on my motorbike on a track day. Drag the rear brake before grabbing a fist full of front. Sort of stops the bike diving and therefore makes dropping the bike into the corner easier. Trail braking is when you hold the rear brake into the apex. Then when you twist on the throttle the power delivery is smoother because of the bike being squared already. I only had a 250cc bike so it wasn't like I was needing it. Isn't Alex into his bikes too?

    I really don't see what all the fuss is about with Albon. He's not that impressive. He was demoted by Red Bull; and last year he drove a Williams car that was inferior to this year's car. ANY driver who suffers through a year of porpoising in a car that hasn't been developed very much... is going to improve as the car improves. (Unless your last name is Hamilton, in which case you whinge and moan... and take a bow whenever the team does something that improves the car).
    Seriously, Albon is a competent driver; and he's probably a decent enough bloke as well. It's simply far too premature to start blowing smoke up his butt. Let him be! Let him get on with his job; and if he shows consistent signs of improving, then start talking about bigger fish to fry.
    As for Sergeant:
    Of course he's struggling for points! What the @#$& does anyone expect? He barely eked out enough points to qualify for his super license; and he only had an outside shot at winning last year. He's a lackluster driver; and I don't see any reason why he should be in F1, when there are far better drivers available than him.

    Alex failed against Max like so many drivers did including Daniel, who left once realizing he had no chance at RB to beat Max. The whole team is built around Max. The car is built from scratch to fit Max's style of driving. And if a second driver gets very close to Max in points at the beginning (like Checo did in 2022 and 2023), Jos and Dr. Marko make sure things change for the better for Max. Nobody will ever beat Max at RB! PERIOD!
