    20:55 she makes a great point there! A huge part in war isn’t simply killing each other, it’s destroying the ability to even fight. So taking out ammo depots is incredibly important

      Can't fight if you've got no ammo, gas, food, etc

    • @Lt_Voss
      @Lt_Voss Před měsícem

      And at the same time I can understand command's point of view. Ammo, fuel, you can get more of. Maybe it'll take a while, maybe you don't have any on hand and it'll take a long while to make more and send it over, but you can still get more relatively easily. Admirals and generals, however, with decades of training and education, and at this point years of experience fighting a majour war (successfully, I might add, as the Japanese were "winning" at this point), are irreplaceable. It takes decades to train and educate new admirals and generals, not to mention the years of experience fighting a war successfully that they literally don't have time for because the war is now, with no spare time to sharpen their teeth. Years needed to learn and study what you have, what the enemy has, how your stuff works against their stuff, how the enemy operates, how your side operates, they just don't have.
      So while I understand the hesitation of bombing innocent civilians to take out a ton of high ranking people responsible for, at the time, kicking your butts, I can understand why command wanted it done regardless. Not saying 666 or command was right or wrong, just saying I can see where both are coming from.

    Point of fact, every one of the other B-17 crews knew that old 666 needed additional parts, so they were actually going out and requisitioning new equipment and donating the items to old, 666 so they could pimp their aircraft.
    They knew how good the eager beavers were and any equipment they could spare would help repair old, 666 to get them back into the air again. It also meant the sooner that they were back in the air sooner more crews we’re coming back.

      It isn’t so much at shooting each other, it’s more about not crashing into each other, but if it did come to the point that you are in such a target rich environment that you have enemies on the left and the right, they had two things going for them.
      1. It’s a target rich environment so just look both way and shoot whatever you think has a higher chance of taking you out.
      2. The crew did have overlapping fields of fire, so if he couldn’t shoot both way, there was a guy that could take care of each way. Waist turrets were after all, additional firepower, not the main lead dispenser.

    The hotel could be considered a civilian target which may make bombing it a war crime but the conversation is some what moot. The biggest issue is the crew of 666 not following orders on occasions. My personal opinion is split on this. I prefer the depots as targets over the hotels myself becuase it's more detremintal to the japanese war effort. At the same time I understand the inclination to take out enemy leadership. It's great for disorienting the enemy. (Not sure how effective the Japanese officers were in the first place though) As for the morality of hitting a civilian target, let's be honest, in a total war situation a massive impact to the civilian population is unavoidable and may actually be the tipping point to making a stubborn enemy surrender. Look at why the Japanese surrendered in the first place for refrence.

    • @tahliasgoddaddy
      @tahliasgoddaddy Před 4 měsíci +1

      The decision to drop the atom bomb hinged on the theory that otherwise there would have to be a land invasion. The casualties on both sides would have been astronomical. It was also assumed that the Japanese,since they basically considered the Emperor to be a god, would fight until almost the last man standing. Dropping the bomb would actually save lives. Hiroshima was first, but they still would not surrender, because they didn't believe the reports of such devastation. It was only after Nagasaki was bombed that the full impact was realized. The Emperor cared little about the loss of life. But it was impossible at that point to ignore the truth. To continue to fight an enemy who could totally destroy your entire country without suffering reciprocal damage would have been ludicrous. Even the Emperor and his officers could not deny that.

    Sarnovski absolutely made the right call with the officer's club mission. Yamamoto was important, sure, but in the grand scheme of things there's probably someone a little way's down capable of taking his place, so all blowing up that penthouse would do is give the press at home a dead figurehead to use for war bond drives.
    The ammunition and fuel depots on the other hand is a concrete strategic victory that actively helps men in combat to stay alive and able to fight, while also depriving the enemy of things that are time consuming and costly to replace. One of the reasons for Japan declaring war on America was an oil embargo we placed on them in condemnation of their actions in China and Manchuria, so fuel is an incredibly expensive thing for Japan as they have to rely on imports from elsewhere. Ammunition, too, is pretty expensive, especially bombs and cannon shells.
    TL:DR Sarnovski made the right call, he sacrificed a symbolic victory for a strategic victory.

    eye exercise do work but only on certain conditions. stronger eye muscles allow for better lens control so focusing on object near and far becomes better.

    I was 14 when my dad took me to an auto scrap yard. I saw a VW Beetle. It had no engine or wheels and it was free (Not enough metal to crush.) I told my dad that I can make it work. He laughed; but he did not know that my best friend had a wrecked Porsche 911! I made it work and he sold it in an effort to save me from me!

    5:12 Exercises might help improve farsighted vision (stronger eye movement muscles would squish the eye more, moving the retina back and closer to in-focus), but would make nearsightedness worse and do nothing regarding astigmatism, or other things that can be wrong with vision.

    Actually your eyes can be strengthened if you have a lazy eye. My uncle did simple eye exercise which i know im going to butcher the explanation..but basically he would blink rapidly, raise eyebrows up and hold ..rolling your eyes up and to the side. Anyways,long story short.... less than a year later his lazy eye was resolved.
