  • East Carolina baseball coach Cliff Godwin goes out to home plate to discuss a call made by the home plate umpire in the Pirates game vs. Cincinnati, 5/1/22. He is then ejected from the game. Godwin is irate about being tossed and lets the umpiring crew know about it before leaving the field.
This video belongs to the American Conference and the NCAA.

Just because you’re waking away doesn’t mean that he didn’t say anything that warranted an ejection!! Can we say that announcer is biased!!

Yeah, that was weird to hear him say “he was not animated” over and over. As if you get a free pass as long as you’re not animated

Looked like the umpire warned him too. Looked like he had kind of that stop sign motion,

That bunter was absolutely terrible. Run to first base FFS, don't look back twice.

Good sportsmanship by the catcher and baserunning coming home.

ECU fan, Godwin does this when the team isn't playing like themselves, he has an old timey manger attitude, not like Bobby Cox by any means but he does it to fire up the team and works 8/10. We have wonderful assistant couches he trust

This announcer couldn’t be more incorrect. They had NO “non animated” he was barking at him the moment they got chest to chest. You could see him sticking his neck out to get as close as possible. Smh.

Probably arguing the ball hit the plate. Only way that ball bounces 3 ft higher than the batter

The ball can hit the plate and still be fair. In fact the plate is in fair territory.
I would contend that the catcher's right foot is in foul territory when he plays the ball. No way the ump is going to be able to judge that in real time though.

@@CastlegarGlenn Doesn't matter where the catcher's foot, or rest of the body is. It matters where the ball is when it's first touched. It looks foul to me, but we're looking at it from an odd angle. Plate umpire is right on the extension of the foul line, so he has a better view.

@@CastlegarGlenn 1. Correct, plate is in fair territory. 2) I froze the video, both feet were in fair territory by the catcher at the time the ball is played. 3) Does not matter where the feet are, it is where the ball is in relation to the foul line when touched. In freezing the video, the plate umpire aligned himself to look down the 1st base line, so he had a great look at it. So I disagree, as a retired umpire myself, you can make that call in real time with the correct positioning, which the PU had in this case.

Does anyone actually care that you are tired or care what you think? Managers have been turning their back as they exclaim nasty personal comments at umpires first 150 years. It’s an an actual strategy to make the umpire look like he’s over reacting. You are clueless.
