Great insight into colour phycology..... Its amazing how your eyes get use to one grade and then the next version looks "wrong", then you get used to that and then the previous version now looks "wrong". Very interesting how our eyes adapt to light and colour. Would like to see more of this type of content , thank you for sharing.

    Really like these breakdowns.
Would love to see the Vectorscope and Waveform during your process if possible. Would be really helpful.
Thanks again. Really looking forward to future vids.

Great suggestion! Thanks! Yeah, I typically have the scopes on a separate monitor because they are not the resolve scopes. But I’ll try to keep them open for viewers.

I think that I would pick somewhere between. I like the exposure down but I liked the actual skin tone better in the happy one. Of course context is the most important thing I think.
If the room the person is in is well lit, the brighter one just might feel better because of how it sits within the environment.
I see that you are still in Resolve version 18, and not the beta.
The only relevance in mentioning this is that the "Face Refinement Tool", has been updated and is now editable for the mask. Which is one of the reasons that I didn't use it.
It was fine on a straight on shot like this, but in use doing 20 clips and then having it fail on the 21st made it really frustrating and less attractive as a tool to use.
And the new FRT has added new parameters one of which is side lighting. To which in my opinion, this shot needs a touch of to give more shape to the face.
But in a fashion/beauty commercial - they probably wanted the front lighting.
I always struggle with the imperfections of skin and deciding what to fix, and what not to fix. I have yet to have a woman client that liked freckles or blemish scars etc., they tend to want the beauty treatment on the skin. And if it's a musical video, the artist has a lot of say over who they use to grade their next music video. So making them look what they believe is their best, ( without making them plastic) will get you more work down the road.
I really enjoy your content and look forward to whatever you offer up. Great insights.

Hey @jimRobinson-colors Thanks! Always love your comments! Also, yea I hear you about the Face Refinement tool, it looks good on paper but in real world usage it can be more work than its worth. It's perfect for straight-on shots like this or simple talking heads.

    Great video, TYSM
One little tip for improvement: I'd appreciate it if you could make the preview image a little larger. It's really hard to see it on a small screen on CZcams.

hi. question. what specific specs or brand of laptop or pc do you use for color grading in general?

    • @FredTrevinoColor
      @FredTrevinoColor  Před 2 měsíci

Hey, I don’t have the exact specs with me at the moment, but it is a Mac Studio with an M1 Max. There’s actually a video review of it on my channel if you look. Should be easy to find under my videos.

Freckles, you mean? She's got a pretty typical amount for a ginger/light-skinned redhead. Do you get out much?

@@aldolega hey, yeah, I wanted to say freckles, but that ain't looking like freckles more like abnormal skin pigmentation. or she has just freakish amount of heavy duty freckles on her face LOL
