Your the man. This was my first time changing my headlight ever in my life and I did it in 2 minutes. You said and performed everything perfectly in order there’s no way someone can top this video. Thank you so so much!
Thanks for this video. Villiage Volkswagen in Chattanooga just told my husband they would have to remove the entire front bumper and charge a minimum of 2 hours of labor to do this. Might want to teach their mechanics a few classes 🤷♀️....
As a woman with no experience when it comes to car maintenance, I feel like I can actually do this. My dad did all of my vehicle work, he recently passed. My headlight went out about a month after & I’ve been putting it off bc I didn’t want to give anyone else HIS job, or fork out a ridiculous amount of money. I’m going to give it a try & will update my comment if I CAN do it myself. 🙏🤞
Thank you so much for video!!! I spend more than one hour trying change low beam headlight bulb on my daughter 2013 VW Jetta TDI. They made simple task difficult!!!.I think they do that to make people spend money in the shop !!!
This video was a lifesaver! I refused to remove the front bumper and grill and this was such an easy alternative. I will admit the dust cover was impossible to remove by hand - I had to bang it loose with a crowbar but after that smooth sailing. Thanks so much!! BTW I have a 2013 Jetta TDI
I struggled a great deal, but once I got it, it was fairly simply. So when putting it back make sure the relatively long metal piece on the mount is down. Now putting the bulb assembly in you’re not supposed it have it perfectly horizontal in terms of the black plastic tabs. In fact they should be a bit rotated in the counter clock wise direction i.e. to the left when you’re facing the front of the car. Rotate counter clockwise like 30 degrees when inserting in and then rotate clockwise to lock.
Hoooly cow. I’m terrible working with cars, but your video made it so easy that I felt like a pro! I watched a few other videos and YOUR VIDEO was the most helpful by far. THANK YOU!!!
Thanks for useful video! In my case, the outer large dust cover caps were stuck. Very stuck. Once you showed me the proper rotation direction to remove them, I (gently) beat on them with a hammer to unstick them, and then on one I actually had to (gently) use a screwdriver and hammer to get it to rotate. 2013 Jetta.
I am having the same issue. Actually took it to my local car shop and they directed me back to the dealer because they said that they would not be able to remove without snapping the cover! Dealer wants to charge me $30 in labor for this quick replacement. So I've decided I'm busting the cap off myself, now. So a hammer and screwdriver should do it?
(Also a 2013 Jetta... seems like a scam to force customers to return to the dealership for a simple bulb replacement that could easily be done at home...)
I was having a similar issue and I got little creative. I just used a hair blower to warm up the plastic cover and then it came off easily. I thought the cold temperature might have contracted it which made it harder to un-screw.
These are possibly the dumbest designed lamp, and light assemblies I have ever encountered!! First off... The headlight assembly will start collecting moisture, (rather early), which in turn, prematurely blows out the lamp bulbs themselves! Ended up having to replace the actual headlight assembly on both sides. (6 years, and 5 bulbs later). Putting that bulb back in is what's really the design problem!! For a Volkswagen, I would have expected a quite abit better design than these SOBs! FYI.... If you do have to change your whole headlight assembly, make sure you go over the outside of the plastic, and hit any points of where seams meet, with a good RTV sealer! Not going through this crap again!!! PS: Awesome idea on heating the outer cover first!! 👍
there another video on how to do this, except the other video has you borderline screw up the clips on the light housing, thanks for showing another way to do it!
The video was precise and even with my hearing problem I could hear you speaking clearly. I'm still afraid to try to change my bulbs tho. It took me three days to get my freaking fuse changed even with a video.
Thanks for the video class. It took me.. like.. 15min to get the cover back on, because the light wires had come out over the seal and would not let me rotate-lock the black plastic water seal. I was trying to do it all by feel. TDI Love from Chicago
Video was visual and clear. Quite helpful. Thanks! Ignore the negative comments. " If you don't have something " nice " to say, don't say anything at all." My son's car was stopped by the police for an " out " headlight, 72 hours to bring it to the station for a check, or $110 fine. Thanks again.
"A little difficult to line up" ...understatement of the century :) . "and then you can feel it seat" ... no! Not so much. The video is cool though, just goes annoyingly smooth ;) . I have a WV Golf 2019, but this Jetta has the same build, anyways, took me two hours of CZcams and two hours of swearing and cursing the designer of this mildly unuserfriendly, not so easy to service on a dark road, design, until finally success. Tried with the broken bulb till I got it. Some spit as lube on the edge of the seat might have helped, but the key was only a slight turn from level (counter clock wise), maybe only 10 degrees and try to find the deepest seat and then just gently turn and re- turn, until it seated on not a false key. It feels solid when it finally sets. And this was on the roomy side without the tight fuse box ;) .
Thank you for the video! The video matched exactly what I encountered and I was able to do it pretty quickly and easily. First time. Saved me some money I’m sure!
this worked great on passenger side, but on driver side I just can't seem to seat the bulb/socket into the headlamp assembly. Its awkward angle, left hand and tight. On passenger side I removed and put back in super easy . . . any tip?
How the heck are you guys getting the light back into the car? This is such a poor design. What do you mean by wait for it to seat? I’ve been trying for 90 minutes to get my driver side light back in. Passenger side went in right away. Do both the driver and passenger side need to rotate clockwise?
Great Video. I took the cap off and tap the back of the light bulb. It came on. Saved me from sending my girlfriend out in the night with one headlight.
easy peezy Thank you so much ....................... crazy auto zone will install a battery and or wipers, but will not help replace a bulb. Anyway thanks again
2:20 My headlight for some reason on the passenger side is missing that handle to grab when removing the bulb from the housing however it’s on the drivers side (car was bought secondhand, was involved in an accident on that side ) so the actual connector is all I have to grab onto but I’m afraid that if try to loosen it, the connector will break. if someone knows whether or not it’s able to withstand that amount of force before I attempt it I would greatly appreciate it thank you
I’ve changed to my new bulbs on my 2017 GLI but my Bulb Monitoring Light remains on. The bulbs seem t be working perfectly. Any advice for resetting the warning light?
Use a long paper clip and bend it to make a long straight part and a hook at the end to go around the bulb, you can fish it out... took me a few minutes
VW should be ashamed of this engineering feat. You practically have to have hands of a midget to do this properly. Nonetheless, thanks for publishing this video.
Don’t have a dad to show me but I’m glad you made it simple for me to understand I appreciate you
Thanks for the video, "tab facing down" were the magic words.
Absolutely right

Can tell by your accent you're Nova Scotia 😂 thanks for the video man you just made the streets of Halifax a little safer!

This was honestly the most helpful tutorial I saw all day, no one else really explained how to get the old bulb off.
Thank you for the tab facing down the hardest part was getting it to go back in.
For someone who's never done anything like this before, this was a perfect DIY video. I changed my headlight bulb in about three minutes. Thank you!

Thanks! After wasting 20 minutes trying to force it in, I finally came back to these comments and read yours and it was done in one try.
@@thewrongstuff1 Glad I could help!
Good looks 👍
Thank you for sharing those tip, I think everyone should upload this comment so everyone sees it.
thank you so much, this tip was exactly what i needed after like 30 minutes trying to do it myself
Thank you! Practically, the only helpful video out of a few bs videos I've watched on youtube on fitting it back to the housing.
Really great video. Excellent angles. Great lighting. Perfect editing. Outstanding audio. 10/10.
This was by far the best video I’ve seen on installing new headlight bulb. Thank you for taking the time to show all of the install points! A+!!!!!

the one on the driver side is harder to get too and on top of that i struggled to turn in 😭😭😭 but overall this video was great help
"Tab facing down". I had to google this to find this golden nugget of info. :) Thanks for posting the video!
there another video on how to do this, except the other video has you borderline screw up the clips on the light housing, thanks for showing another way to do it!
Video with small details.. best out of 100’s
Thanks for posting. I watched a few of these videos videos, and yours was the clearest.
+Kevin Thorp Glad it hepled Kevin !
I was pissed off enough to junk the freaking car trying to get the bulb back in. You saved my car, but I will never do this task again.
Thank you so much!!! I just successfully replaced my bulbs for the 1st time thanks to you!!!
This helped quite a bit, thanks for the detailed explanation and for the notes. Hardest part was tightening the unit again back in the lamp.
The video was precise and even with my hearing problem I could hear you speaking clearly. I'm still afraid to try to change my bulbs tho. It took me three days to get my freaking fuse changed even with a video.
Thank you kind Sir, I was able to change out my headlight with help from your tutorial. At midnight with my cellphone light no less. Take care.
Thanks for the video class. It took me.. like.. 15min to get the cover back on, because the light wires had come out over the seal and would not let me rotate-lock the black plastic water seal. I was trying to do it all by feel.

GMC in the 2000’s had the best set up… pull a pin, the headlight swivels out and it’s easy as pie… this takes effort lol

Excellent camera work. Best explanation out there!
I was weary about changing my headlight myself because a friend of mine had said it was difficult in a Jetta, but you made it super easy. Thanks!
Just changed my in literally 7 minutes...small thing to a giant.💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Thanks man! No video I found is as clear as yours
great walkthrough. short, direct, to the point.
Thanks! That bulb is no joke coming out. Thought I was doing something wrong.

Well done. Thanks for keeping your hand out of the way, even though it was awkward to do.
Hey, thanks so much buddy! saved me a fucking huge headache. Canadian Tire asked 140$ for a bulb replacement, now I paid 14 leaf dollars!
Great Video. I took the cap off and tap the back of the light bulb. It came on. Saved me from sending my girlfriend out in the night with one headlight.

you video is really the best. Thanks so much brother
Good job my friend! Major respect
I appreciate this video so much! I fixed my head light!
ridiculous how stupid they make such a simple task. great engineering to bring you right back to the dealership
Greg Novicki yep
Always simple for me...
I guess everyone has a different opinion of an easy task 🙈
how can they make it simpler then unscrewing the cap and putting a new bulb in???
Hey at least the abs module with the lines aint blocking the opening like a toyota.
@@damastamindz it could be simpler by making it easy to get to. You have to have baby hands to get to it
easy peezy Thank you so much ....................... crazy auto zone will install a battery and or wipers, but will not help replace a bulb. Anyway thanks again
Thanks for tips just replaced my bulb
Great video! It was simple and easy to do. Thanks!
Thank you!
Thanks you so much!! This was very clear and was so very helpful!
Great video, helped me get it first try. Thanks a lot man!
Thanks so much for posting!

Thank you. You were a big help to me.
I’ve changed to my new bulbs on my 2017 GLI but my Bulb Monitoring Light remains on. The bulbs seem t be working perfectly. Any advice for resetting the warning light?
What an awesome help! It's a cinch with your help. Thank you!!!! Where do I donate?
This was helpful! Thanks!
Used this to change the H7 type bulbs on my 2013 Jetta 2.5 SE -- remember the tab points DOWN... ;)
took me forever to put it back in and I'm not sure if I put it properly -.-
i dropped the light when trying to put it in, its now down the deep dark abyss of my car. fuck me
Use a long paper clip and bend it to make a long straight part and a hook at the end to go around the bulb, you can fish it out... took me a few minutes
Thanks a lot my friend!!!!😊😊😊😊
German engineering took the day off with the design of this socket.

MaxTooney Ive changed mine about 4 times.Still fucking annoys me .
