- Don Rogers from A Reverence for Roses demonstrates his rose propagation technique in the event that it will help others learn how to propagate and preserve roses from the past for future generations.
This is a complete step-by-step guide to propagating or growing roses from cuttings. Please note that this video contains what has worked for Don and Jan Rogers in Zone 8b in Central Florida. Every growing environment is unique and your methods may vary slightly.

Roses are so worth it!
He has invested a fortune! I only want to propagate a dozen roses!
Thanks so much, Don. Now I have to find room for Kimberley to put a cement mixer and a greenhouse. 😀
adorable man
Love this. Will try
Wow, kimberley, an amazing video, so much information. Thanks!!
Thank you Kimberly!
This is so well done. Thanks Kimberley!
Wow.... Jason is my favourite Guy...wow .getting to know you are connected and close to gave me a huge relief all from a very long long journey back from here India.. love it...
Excited to see this topic! Hope it's as good as I hope it will be! Thank you very much 😊
Okay lady....you know this is right up my alley! I'm catching up cause I haven't felt the greatest. Wow!!! I'm so jealous!! Lol this is awesome!! I'm going to continue my current prop trial....but....I'm going to try my hand at soil prop. I cannot tell you how much watching your channel speaks to the dreams of my heart. I'd so love to be able to prop roses and be able to share. Not just to make money....but to share the beauty of roses. I love all plants, but, roses have always spoke to me in a different way. This is soooooo awesome! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!! Ps...im saving this one to view several times! ;)
Don is such a nice man! Great video with so much good information. Thanks!
Wonderful video. Thanks for sharing! I like the table at the end. Will try next year ...
Great information! I hope to implement this next summer. I'd love to get some cuttings rooted.
What a great and educational video. I really enjoyed watching this video. I watched Jason’s video on propagation and so far I’ve gotten great success rate. Don’s technique is really neat with using much shorter cuttings. I shall try this technique soon.
Thanks so much for a gem of a video. What a rare treat it is to hear from a pro like Don Rogers.
I usually have 2-3 nodes on cutting just like Don did. I do not have spraying or green house system to keep the soil moist i put them under other bush to keep the cutting cool and water every day . Not 100% success but It works well for me😊
Rosegeek you have a very beautiful gray eyes. As an Asian we all have this dark brown black eyes. Yours so beautiful. I use to wish i have gray eyes and blond hair. But sadly i am not...lol...😇😇
Muito obrigado!!! Tks!!!
This is such fun. You are sharing professional propagation methods! Hope the Evelyn and all others root and grow healthy.
Kim tell us more about a monthly meeting?
Wonderful information!! Thanks to Don and you for sharing this info on propagation. I haven't had any luck at propagating yet. I had one cutting survive 9 months but ultimately I seem to over water and experience fungal issues on the stem (damping off?) I will try again next season.
@@TheRoseGeek Most definitely I will try again. I find it all fascinating! I did the cinnamon method and was surprised the cutting actually took off. I used regular potting soil with perlite 50/50 so I will try your 50/50 peat and perlite mixture next and actually get a rooting hormone. I'm going to try Don's notching method of the stem. I scrapped/cut more off and like his method better!!
I can't wait to start propagating some cuttings! I will definitely take away some good learnings from Don.
I'm curious to know if you have an updated status of any of the cuttings you helped with during your trip :)
This video has been very helpful. Thank you. How would I go about ordering a rose from Don? I am very new at propagating but love the process. I have Lupus and am in a lot of pain almost all the time. Roses take my mind off the pain. Our home burned a little over a year ago and I am trying to get my new yard to the place where I can enjoy it. Thank you both for sharing this wonderful knowledge.❤
I am so sorry for your Lupus and the house burning. That must be a lot for you to process with the house and your health.
To order from Don, go to www.areverenceforroses.com/
Sending wishes for health and blooms!
Wow! This is amazing. I'm supposed to be vacuuming, but this was much more fun. Can't wait to try this. What do you use for a dome? I just have plastic bottles with the top off. How do I mist without a mister? I'm in Tuscany, home grower. Thanks so much for this. fascinating!
@@TheRoseGeek Thank you for that! I'm going to try every method and see what happens. I love the Rose Geek channel.❤️
Thank you Kimberley and Don. So different with the cement mixer and cement vibrator. It still looks like they are soaked for two days in a row which surprised me. I also never heard of the chemicals he uses. I have a question, what is he doing with the end of the cutting? Is he splitting it?
Impossible for me to find peat moss here in Norway. My understanding is that peat moss in Europe is available only to professional growers. What is my alternative? Great video!
Rub the pushing node off....that has been my question all fall.....never had pushing nodes in fall before. Also, a friend with high water ph collects rain water from her gutters (I used buckets) just so she can water baby roses...nothing else gets her precious rain water.
Sorry, I am a chatter-box....I have a question which is likely something I missed! I am attempting the Kimberly Method, but, I did have to change up few things....I am using straight-up Vermiculite. I moistened it well and I have not misted since, and all are in the same Glass Jars...I did not cut holes in the bottom of the plastic cups, and I notice now that the moisture has pooled at the bottom of the Glass Jar, with a small amount of moisture beading around the Vermiculite. 11/23 was the beginning, and now I have Popcorn formation on the ends which were barely below the surface....I let the cup support the stem by angling the stem, 3 cuttings with 3 nodes per cup! One I recut as it began to turn black at the base! ...several small leaves were left on some and they took to mold, now removed.
I open my lid every evening before the lights go out, with a fan running over them...then they get shut up until morning...they are in a Closet/Grow-Light situation! :)
.....my question, was I suppose to cut holes in the bottom of the cups? LOL I feel silly asking!
i was thinking about the oxygen flow! I guess I should have, and then the water could still pool to the bottom after it rises up and falls down as Humidity/Moisture from the Heat and the Lights! ...I will have to make adjustments, as the Vermiculite does not have Nutrition, and so I have "Super-Thrive" when I go to move them into a Peat Mix. .....I feel more confident with the Vermiculite at this stage because it is like having a very Neutral base and also sterile of bacteria!
@@TheRoseGeek Yes, I started a New Glass Jar today and I changed it up a little...15 Roses of Iceberg and Lincoln! :) ...I am addicted...I am still going to stay with the 3 percent Hormone! ....I did some of those L-junction parts of the Stem...They certainly are more sturdy to place! ...Thank you again, and again! :) ...The only thing I am missing is the nerve to knock on folks doors who have Roses! With Alcohol and pruners in Hand! :)
I have a question. He said 50/50 and when you look up the bag he shows, they do not offer anything 50/50, and the mix he showed looks like it may be a different blend. When I look at the Jolly Gardner site I could not find anything 50/50. Where can we purchase the blend he shows? Thank you for sharing
@@TheRoseGeek Thank you. I've tried prior and have failed. I'd like to try exactly what he uses. They do sell that bag, its just a different blend. :)
50% peat + 50% perlite
He buys them individually & combines them.
He did water them awful lot of . No rotting???
Peat moss is not a good thing to use as it is a very limited resource. Please consider alternatives.
