It is not the licks. It is not the technical proficiency. It is not the repertoire. This is an example of listening and serving the song. That's what being a pro is all about. It's the same as the principle of acting improv "yes and..." without getting in the way. Look at the eye contact and the nod. It was two people in the moment telling each other "I got you."
I know the sax player, Kaidi! He went to the same music school as me. I was fortunate enough to be in a music and theatre residency with him, where he and a violinist (sadly, I can't remember her name) played the most unbelievably, extraordinarily stunning improvisation. It takes my breath away every time I listen back to the video.

While the Tube is a subway, that term is used differently in the uk where this video is from. That is the Underground or the Tube, you will not see subway signs there. Where you will see a subway sign is on a path that goes under a road.

i tried playing this then i took one look at the key signature
This seems complicated because sharps are already harder than flats (at least i think so, but that may be my inner trumpet player showing), and 5 of them is especially hard, but if you think about it, this is basically a Ab major scale on the saxophone as this is an alto, and that means 4 flats instead of 5 sharps.
That’s true. It’s already one of the most undesirable but rewarding scales to play regardless if your playing a Bb or Eb instrument. It’ll be the E major blues
which is F sharp on tenor and D flat on alto. But once the scale is down, you need feel, communication, licks and lead tone awareness to go along with improv. So he did an awesome job.
