    Best welding channel by miles. I've been doing this 37 years+ in the UK, a lot of our specs are different but most jobs use ASME codes currently welding structural tube 530mm od and 720mm of (21" 28") 7018hr4s laborious 10 pass 18mm fillets I know I could do it in 6 passes but we're not allowed? Somebody half my age who's never never held a pair of tongs in his life telling me how to do my job, such is life. I've a few tips for the youths starting out. 1. Get work pants with knee pads 2.keep your head/screen out of the smoke and learn to weld at at arms length 3.never jump of the job always climb down 4. Buy a couple rubber floor mats and make sure your always stood on them your entire working life... I know this because I did non of the above and I'm blind as a bat i have knackered ankles knees and hips oh and don't forget the bad feet.

  • @inverterville
    @inverterville Před 3 lety +1

    An ideal set up would be to have the gap wider on the top, so that when you get there its not after closing and you wont have to knife it with a slicing disc. I would use a slightly wider gap on larger dia pipe. the rod needs to breath especially at the bottom too tight and you end up turning your amperage up which will result in a concave bead. Its not as forging as lets say a 7010 electrode. I use the remote in one hand (small) with a magnet and slide it up the pipe as I travel. With this method you have instant power and when you are going into or out of a pickup it really helps. The ideal way to travel is just have a keyhole no more, too big it falls in too little nothing in the inside.

    I'm not a welder or in the trades, but I still enjoy watching these. One question, if one were to be welding two long pipes together, how would they knock the slag off from the inside? 4:50 for example, wouldn't be able to do that if the pipes were longer?
    Would designs require that pipes be bolted together every so often so you could reach it?
    Would you just leave it?
    Is it an unlikely scenario that the sections of pipe would be so long you couldn't reach it?

    • @lolzlarkin3059
      @lolzlarkin3059 Před 4 lety +6

      Every site has one midget (or 'little person') they shove down the pipe with a chipping hammer and a head torch. At the end of the shift they pull him out the other end of the pipe. Its important to remember not to leave him in there as this could hinder your gas flow when the pipe is put into service.
      For reals I have no idea. I assume you just leave it?

    I guess there are many cases (if not most) when you can't access the inside of the pipe anymore after welding. How to you clean the inside then? It looks like there are a lot of pieces that could flake off.

    Awesome Guys been waiting for this video, Couple of Questions about 7016 on thin wall pipe (shc 40 4")
    I am trying to pass my LoHy pipe test but having trouble on the
    2G and 5G root passes.
    Rod :2.6mm Kobe 7016
    Gap: 2.4mm
    Amps: 70-62 DCEP
    Trapping slag on the top bevel on the root pass sort of inconsistent were the puddle wants to stay on one bevel sometimes and looks like it is even while welding though, any thoughts ?
    Also the 5G root seem ok when i start at 6 O-clock to 3, but as soon as i get near 2-3 O-clock mark it starts to chew away the bevel and the puddle becomes out of control almost like its way to much amps (68) having to go down to around 62 amps.
    I have tried to hang back in the puddle a little but the pipe overheats really quick if i do, any suggestion to over come this ?
    This would be a big help Thanks Andrew and Jody :)

    • @lendavidhart9710
      @lendavidhart9710 Před 4 lety

      Andrew
      I'm no welder, but in outside, where this would take place in real life, any wind would push the [flux] gas that comes out of the welding nozzle when the trigger is pulled in, that feeds the wire, it would be a very poor weld. Stick electrodes are coated with flux, it's built-in.
      I hope that helps, and i hope a real welder, might explain this more perfectly.
