After years of alcohol abuse I made the choice to officially become sober. This song has helped me more than you will ever know. I love music that touches the soul, and I relate to both sections of this song. I am happy to say I am 3 months sober today, and after almost 2 decades of heavy drinking, I can fight this. Thanks for writing such a beautiful mental health, addiction ( that's how I see it ) song. You guys are amazing!! Now. Where's the new music lol.

They might just not be listening to the right style for their taste. There is no factually 'bad music', it all depends on the listeners taste. Whether or not a song is good, and how good it is, is a matter of opinion. While this song means a lot to me for personal reasons and I simply adore it, others are entitled to their personal opinion. I will not be mad because someone does not have the same taste that I do, nor will I get into a fight over who's opinion is right, because neither is wrong. There's no point. Listen to what you like, don't listen to what you don't. It's very simple.
But it *is* generic. This genre on the whole is extremely generic. I could pull a playlist made up entirely of bands that sound just like this. Breakdown intro, screaming, bridge, screaming, painful clean vocals, subtle synth, repeat. That's not to say it's bad but I do not think it is a genre that will be round for very long. Each to his own and all that though, it's not my place to tell you (or your grandpa) what to listen to.
alfie...65 Doesn't every type of music follow the same pattern? If you listen to a country song they'll probably all sound pretty similar because they follow the same music patterns (or because country sucks)
To a degree, there are formulaic genres and non-formulaic genres. Heck, I love hardcore and the majority of that will sound the same to a non-discerning listener. It just seems that every time I listen to a band of this type then it sounds exactly the same as the last one I listened to (I am not an expert by any means, so if there is anyone that is taking the genre by the balls and doing something different, then I am all ears). And we are definitely agreed on country music, what a load of horseshit.

Man, these lyrics aren't good. I could pretty much predict every other line. The state of metal/metalcore/post hardcore/whatever is very stale right now. This isn't bad, it's just nothing to remember. There's nothing different about it. Give me some lines that stick in my head! We, as a community, should ban the lyrics: eyes, alive, night, falling, run, conscience, fear and alive.
I do agree. The clean part sounded good, but I loved that really dark, in the mind/conscience experience. I still do like it, I just wish the vibe wasn't killed by the chorus. Still a very good song though.
I love this song because it tells a story of the struggle many of us have of fighting against our dark half. In other words, the struggle between the good and evil within ourselves. Sometimes to relate to songs we have to reflect them upon our lives and sometimes others ,in general, as well.
