I saw Metallica in 1997 in Memphis. Met the band. I was on the barricade, not 6 feet from the stage. The lead singer, James Hetfield jumped down and handed me the pick he played "Nothing Else Matters" with....right after the solo and just at the crescendo to the song. That was over 20 years ago and I still remember that just like it happened yesterday. Long time Metallica fan here. "Fade to Black" is one of my favorites.

See this guy is the real deal. His reactions are totally real and heartfelt. You can in his eyes and his smile that hes genuine. Its how i felt when i first heard this song at age 14, i was immediately entranced by the beauty and power. I knew when Kirk was gonna really let the fire and fury flow from his soul to the guitar towards the end of the solo that Preston would have to smile. Man its good to see people that wouldnt normally hear this music, stop and recognize the genius and majestic beauty of it.When I went to school in San Pedro in Socal, black dudes didnt listen to this kind ofmusic or werent even allowed to by their peers because it was considered white dudes with long hair kinda music. I would think, man theyre dumb, theyre missing out on music that has emotional power like no other. You are a good man sir.You see the beauty and appreciate the musicianship.

Fun's fact: James Hetfield (vocals/guitar) wrote this song in 1984 after Metallica's gear was stolen, and he was really sad because of that!! This was like his sort of "crying for help" because of that, I think!! He wasn't even planning to write any songs after this happened, I believe!!! But, now this is one of them MASTERPIECES!!! So, thanks for Metallica's music in my life!!! Them SONGS always keep me alive, so yep...!!!!! Thank you, Metallica!!
And, yeah, Kirk Hammett (lead guitar) is really killing it with the final guitar solo, and also Lars Ulrich (drums) is also kicking a double-bass at the end, too!!

James Hetfield - vocals and rhythm guitar
Kirk Hammett - lead guitar (he does the solos)
    Lars Ulrich - drums
    Cliff Burton - bass
Cliff was on the first 3 Metallica albums, but then he died in a car accident in 1986 while the band was on tour in Europe. Metallica replaced Cliff with Jason Newsted in 1986. Jason was on the 4th-7th albums. Jason left the band in 2001. Metallica replaced Jason with Rob Trujillo in 2003, and has been with the band ever since, being part of their last 2 albums.
I saw Metallica for my first time ever in July 2017 at the Rose Bowl. It was the best concert I’ve ever been to. Metallica’s own channel has a large amount of videos from their current worldwide tour. I highly recommend checking out Spit Out the Bone - live London 2017. It is absolutely sick.
If you want to see Metallica performing at their absolute best, their absolute peak.....then you have to react to either Blackened or Battery live Seattle 1989. The Seattle 1989 show is well regarded as being their finest live performance ever.
Keep dishing out Metallica reactions. It’s just as fun for us metal veterans to watch as it is for you to first discover it.

I‘ve learned this song like 8 years ago. And up to this day there is pretty much no session where i don’t play the ending solo at least as a warm up.
Imo this song is just pure perfection, imagine writing something like this, oh man, every note is just where it belongs and should never ever be something else, thats what i dont like about the live performance of this song, kirk always butchers the ending solo into something else but hey after so many years playing it almost every week or so live, well you have to mix it up a bit.
But fade to black is so much fun to play even after 8 years.

Saw Metallica 4 times and you'd fit right in!
I still have my Justice (88') concert shirt, never washed, and the blood on it is brown now.
"One" was the finale. 10 rows from the stage. When the later solo started, chairs started flying..
Despite the pint of blood lost, Justice was one of the best friggin concerts ever!

Gary Lennon Agreed, love the open minded listeners. Now I need to go watch more rap reactions from Preston to get my diversity on!

Me too. You've tapped into something HUGE. Every metalhead wants people to understand why we love the music. We just want to be understood. It's a lonely musical life...

This song was written in memory of their bass player, Cliff Burton, who was killed in an accident while on road with the rest of the band. The tour bus slipped on ice, flipping the bus over, and shooting Cliff out of the window. He was instantly killed. Cliff was a phenomenal bass player and was able to play the bass like no one I knew when I first learned of Metallica as a teenager, I am now in my 40s. Rest in peace Cliff...always and forever brother. Mahalo for the music and love you shared with us all. Aloha.

No. Cliff hadn’t died yet at this point. This is off the Ride the Lightning album. Cliff didn’t die until after the next album (Master of Puppets).

The only way to describe a live Metallica show in a 60,000 seat stadium is mind blowing. Their stage is huge, with giant 150foot screens& videos for every song, amazing light and laser effect, then there’s the pyro and the fire on the stage with flames shooting 100 more feet above those screens during blackened when James sings “Fire” or the intro for “One” it looks like the stage is being bombed and machine guns are firing, and that’s just 2 songs . It’s worth every cent no matter where you’re sitting, because not only are they good live but it’s a crazy good show to go with the music. Absolutely a must see for any fan of this band

as a metal guitarist, I enjoy seeing reactions from many people in this day and age. Back in the days when I played Metal music, most people thought of us as satanist without first listening to the music. Metal music is composed of Blues notes, classical notes and sometimes just freestyle playing with deep emotional lyrics that speak for itself, and a new heavy and fast note/chord progressions to tell a story most people deal with on a regular basis. Keep up with the great reactions. It makes me smile to see that, finally after over 30 years...people are realizing that Metal music is one of the best music genres in history. Cachai
