This is one of the songs that we played at my identical twin brother's celebration of life.. He passed away on November 17th of 2023..R.I.P Brother. HE WILL BE MISSED DEARLY!!
Sorry man. His memory is still alive \m/
May his memory be a blessing to you always. ❤
I send my condolences. It is an excellent song to remember people by, though.
sorry for your loss
Rip I’m sorry for your loss
Top 5 Metallica song of all time.
Top 5 song of all time.
Top 2 for me
@@qbus2488One is number One
Easy!
Ngl top 3 for me cause it’s my favorite song in the ride the lightening album
This Metallica album, Ride the Lightning, is coming up on it's 40 year anniversary of it's release. Hard to believe I was listening to it that long ago. It's still my favorite Metallica album.
I was 15 when it came out.How do you think I feel?I I'm a fifty four year old metal head
I was cranking that album in my bedroom when I was 13. It's their best album by far.
I listened to them until Cliff passed. I still listen to those albums a lot.
I never take much interest in a bands background or private life, but was Cliff a part of the composing? Because they stopped with the things I like most about their music after he was gone. Like the music sometimes painting the story as well as the words did.
here I was an 18 yr old senior in Hi Skool buying the cassette at my local record store so I could jam it in my 1978 Ttop Z28 ✌💖☮
Ride the lightning is their best. MoP gets so much love for good reason but I’ll put for whom the bell tolls, fade to black, and creeping death up against MoP, sanitarium, and battery any day
If you are looking for other trash/ power ballads from Metallica you could listen to "Welcome home(Sanitarium) and "The Unforgiven". These 2 songs are other shining gems :)
Unforgiven 2
Is the best....
Metallica to me is like a buffet; you may not like everything on the menu but there is something there for everyone. Real artists break boundaries, especially their own.
Couldn’t have said it better myself!! Everything you said is exactly right….
Living in Dallas, Texas at the time, I remember the night the radio station ZRock went off the air. I was working 3rd shift that night and at 2am, the last song ZRock aired was Metallica's Fade to black. I parked my patrol car, turned up the radio and just listened to the song. As the song neared it's end, I had tears in my eyes. The song faded out and all that was left was silence. Not static. I sat in that patrol car and cried. It was the end of a era and no better song could have capped off the end. I will forever remember that moment when I listen to this song. After all these years, if I catch this in the middle of the night, I still get a little emotional.
I lived near Dallas around that same time. I barley remember ZRock cause I was a kid at the time.
Cool story. Thanks for sharing. I had a Zrock in Cleveland as well. I was born in 75. It is the station that got me into metal. It is still my all time fav genre of music.
"I was me, but now he's gone"
Very relatable phrase. Years of psychology treatment and therapy, yet this song still rings a bell in me.
Love your reactions, cheers from Argentina.
Yeah. That was me but now he's gone. The perceived layers of a man's life are like a piece of wood. They hold each other together.
I suppose this means that you feel much better these days?
I hope so. And I hope you will find happiness.
You are not alone....usa
@@chrissibersky4617 Yes, I have a happy life after a lot of struggle, learned to love myself before anyone else
@@frankdeutan
I'm glad to hear that.
I've had problems too for many years. I had too many people around me with problems that became mine too. I got away from that. A much more lonely life now but I have come to appreciate being more alone.
Top 5 for most and best metallica song imo!
This song helped me through some of the darkest and hardest times in my life. Knowing other folks were in a similar emotional place helped me feel like I wasn’t alone. I was sad, angry, frustrated, and depressed. I felt validated by this song.
Best Metallica album ever In my opinion!! Thanks for the reaction! Trapped under Ice is a sleeper on the album.
I don’t know the black album is hard to beat
Justice, master, ride and then black album in my opinion. If I'm being real, master is above justice but I like justice more personally.
@@mattjohnson7725Metallica’s first 4 albums all beat the black album
@@andrewcastillo9558 I feel like Master is drastically over rated. Like a third of it's album filler.
@@captainjefferies9047 I disagree, I like every song on that album!
This is one of my favorite Metallica songs. It helped me when I was in my 20's go thru shit, I'm 51 now. I play this song all the time on guitar and the ending/outro is sooo much fun to play!!
Metallica is one of those bands where there's so much quality, probably why they are one of the if not the biggest metal band ever, you will have bands who are faster, more technical, more melodic but Metallica check all boxes overall.
Every metal band wants to be Metallica with the exception of Iron Maiden.
@@eazye519 Like Metal didn't start in the 60's.
@@captainjefferies9047 irrelevant
@@eazye519 False.
Dude, if you think like this you have to listen to more bands, there are thousands of bands that check all the boxes in all types of metal and rock in general, there are tons of factors alongside quality music, timing of hitting the scene, popularity of genre, approachability of the misic to the masses, marketing, the list goes on, bands know how blessed they are for the succes because alot of it is completely out of your control.
🤘😎👍 Metallica - To live is to die . is very good too . 👍
Best song ever written, by the greatest band that ever was, or will be. They sound absolutely phenomenal in my ‘04 F-150 8200 GVW. Has an Alpine stereo, 10,000 watts, 13 Alpine amplifiers, 16 vocal speakers, 6 10” subwoofers in a custom, two section, sub box that I built. Has dual alternators, dual charging systems, Alpine alarm, separate, self built alarm for the amplifiers enclosures and so much More. Not just Metallica, but pretty much everything sounds incredible in my truck.
Nah....
My 440 Cuba running 1/4 mile races
They sound absolutely amazing live, this song does not disappoint.
@@kevinbrown9831 I bet. Even though I’ve never been to a concert, I get to listen to one every time I’m in my truck, lol.
My favourite song of all time. Last to be played at my funeral.
To think they were 20/21 when they wrote this.
You nailed Metallica with POETRY plus ENERGY 🤘🏼✨💕
This song was ahead of its time, and it’s responsible for saving a lot of people…and carving out a pathway to forgiveness for those who have survived a suicide, or multiple…
Thanks so much for giving this song the kindness and respect it deserves, you guys are finally starting to see Metallica is more than a metal band. It’s awesome! 😎
Omg!! Thank you so much for the reaction. This is my fav metallica song of all time!
Truly a masterpiece of a song, been a life long fan 30+ years of Metallica and never plan on stopping 🤘
He passed away on September 27, 1986 RIP Cliff Burton Gone, but not forgotten
Try "Sad But True" from them next
Heard this on repeat as a child, this was the one that got me into metal.
I bet you turn out ok...
Cliff died in a bus crash in 1986...
Song is off of my favorite Metallica albums.Ride the lightning every song excellent
There’s something special with Fade To Black…the “feel” of the song is hard to describe. Part of its charm and uniqueness is how it was mixed. Masterpiece.
Wow u guys are on point! Sounding like professional critics❤,impressive! This song is definitely legendary!
Saw them play this live ...Donnington 1985......the most moving powerful ballad I've ever heard....it was amazing......and it gave the headbanging a brief rest!!!!
Till the end of the song when they let it rip l o l
@@williamreiser3118 yeah.....🤣.....I said it was brief🎸
Metallica -- "One" - Music Video. It was their very 1st Music Video ever on MTV. It uses the film footage from Johnny Got His Gun (1971) - the book was written by Dalton Trumbo in 1939. It's an anti-war book - therefore song. Amazing song and video
Yep, we did that one! It was great!
You should do Welcome Home (Sanitarium) from Metallica, one of the best of them so far!!
Awesome!! It's not just my favorite Metallica song; it's my favorite song period.
I love 'Nothing Else Matters', and I think we can all agree, this is an entirely different thing. Depending on my mood when asked, this is possibly my favorite Metallica song, and undoubtedly one of the best they ever created. It is structured a little unusually, and it is completely unapologetic about it. The structure is actually similar to One where there is a verse/chorus section, but then a gear change into a more intense (mostly) instrumental section running all the way to the end.
One of their many absolutely epic songs!
This is 1 of their many masterpieces... ICONS... Metallica FAN4LIFE🤘🏽😎
Great reaction. You dont always find youtubers who react to songs and are actually listening to whats happening. Nice one!
This was my favorite album of theirs... LOVED the whole album start to finish!!!
Good for you for doing this song. I’ve seen reactions of this song making people weep. Hard. For a decade.
watching Lyric Video's is great and all to get the Context of the laying out and meaning of the Song...But seeing Stage Performance is the best way where you get Pure Raw Goosebumps Emotion seeing Kurt absolutely Shread on the Guitar on those pivotal moment Guitar Solo Riffs for the songs.
this is my first time seeing your channel. really nice comentary especially for people who are new to metal
In honor of Cliff Burton, you shoud check out "Pulling Teeth" , it's a Bass Solo, He could make the Bass sound like a guitar. Absolutely amazing.
Anesthesia Pulling Teeth, to be precise.
✊🏼Thanks for the memory lane drive. 💪👊🤘
Very very good reactions in metallica. I love your honesty and I think you are articulate and I am one of those guys that thinks Metallica sucks after 91 lol.
A "ballad" in their earlier years. Metallica wrote "Fade To Black" after their equipment was stolen. The band was scheduled to play a show in Boston on January 14, 1984. The truck with their gear got their first, and when their road crew looked for it the next morning, it was gone. They had to cancel the show and postpone a planned tour of Europe.
And James's amp was given to him by his mother as well, it being one of the things he had left from her.
I still wonder who stole Lars Camco drumkit.....that was a nice kit..👉🏻👉🏻
Yeah, this was the first time they were accused of “selling out”. So silly.
Ride the Lightning...my favorite album from the boys....
bruh ..........i hope you realize this song was an unreleased Suicite Note ; written by James hetfield during his struggle with alcohol addiction ; this has NOTHIGN to do with stolen equiptment lmfao .........this is like 2000 times deeper then what you described ..... do some research ; thanks
Amazing intro and outro on this song. In the top 5 metallica songs easily!
People don’t understand that Metallica has been changing since their first album!!! Every single album is completely different and ahead of the next trend. People just can’t seem to understand this and think the first 4 albums sound alike lol 😂
I was lucky enough to see Cliff with the band open for Ozzy at riverbend in the summer of 86 and this is my favorite song from Metallica.
I was waiting for y'all to react to this. Favorite Metallica song.
The ORIGINAL bassist left the band in 81/82. Cliff, the 2nd bassist, passed in 86 on the Master of Puppets tour.
I remember hearing Metallica for the first time when Kill em All came out in the 80’s and they blew me away. It’s great to see people discover them. I’m jealous, I wish I could hear these songs for the first time again. A couple great videos to check out are Creeping Death live in Seattle ‘89 and Enter Sandman live in Moscow ‘91. The answer to the first question you will have with this one is 1.6 million!
Awesome video.
Fire reaction guys 🔥
I've seen Metallica 20 times. My 20th time was at the Power Trip festival, and they never ever disappoint. Will keep on seeing them until the day I die or when they retire, whichever comes first. RIP Cliff, miss you greatly.
I've heard versions with orchestra, piano only, and even flute choir. It is a great piece of music.
Great reaction.
Glad you two liked the song, one of my favorites. I actually can't decide on one favorite song from Metallica because they have so many fantastic songs. All different.
This is probably my favorite song by them.. it's my dad's too. I remember doing a project in high school and I had to print out the lyrics for the song. When I was telling my dad what I needed it for he asked if it was gonna be appropriate for school. And I got kinda confused and he asked if I knew what it was about... I knew a lot of the lyrics but until then I never really put the pieces together.. I was always just lost in the instrumental.. since then it's only gotten more impactful and helped with some pretty dark times. If anything had a chance against this one it would be Sanitarium(welcome home)
Can't wait to see your reaction to the live version of this!
Now imagine watching this live, ten times better. You should try it.
Also, for me as a veteran, this song and One when I hear these two songs even to this day are akin to a punch to the gut. Those two songs hit extremely close to home, and they are very difficult for me to listen to, but they are two of the greatest songs ever written, in my opinion. Take care and keep on rockin'.
Seen them 3 times un Toronto they literally kicked my ass❤😂
Its a great point that you bring up...., im an old school Metallica guy that stopped listening to them for YEARS......UNTIL Death Magnetic came out. Back to being a solid fan. Theyve been a big part of my life, all my life......
Much more to say, hate texting...lol
!!!GOODISM¡¡¡ Greetings from Argentina
My favorite Metallica album.
Love watching newbies realize what we Metallica fans have known for 40 plus years...NOTHING COMPARES to the majesty of the Mighty Metallica
My favorite Metallica album and favorite song. So raw and powerful. Amazing!
And they were so young at that time to create music which such a deep meaning. And this song is always a highlight for me when at a concert.
The instrumental outro is the struggle of ‘his’ body fighting against the suicide. You can hear the heart pumping faster and faster. Very impressive.
It's nothing like nothing else matters. This song has it all...
FYI. Cliff wasn't the original bassist. Ron Mcgovern was. Cliff replaced him before the recorded their first album.
Like a lot of their music on the whole in the first 5 albums, this is an absolute masterpiece. I LOVE the raw guitars sound on the RTL album.
This song always hits deep for me. I took a good listen to it one day when I was near the brink of, well, ending just like the song. And then I realized: I didn't want that, I didn't want my end to be like the song. I could still fight, I wasn't still lost, I had to try one more time. And it worked, here I am over a decade later, still fighting but going strong and not backing down.
I smiled at the "goosebumps" comment. This song still gives me goosebumps EVERY time man. Nice format for reaction. The thing that is interesting for viewers who have always been fans, is to see if someone new to it can appreciate it as well. But soooo annoying when there are so many stops for talking during the playback. Nice job to comment before and after with only one stop in the middle. Well done.
Saw them live in a club in Hartford CT. In 1984 front row.... Was partially deaf for 2 weeks.. I was 19 years old it was awesome.!!! WASP and Armoured Saint were the back up bands
Thank you so much! 🤘
First of all, great reaction video.
Secondly, the Late Cliff Burton was NOT the Original Bassist, he was actually the SECOND Bassist. The ORIGINAL founding members of Metallica were:
James Hatfield - Lead Vocals/Rythm Guitar;
Lars Ulrich - Drums;
Dave Mustain - Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals;
Ron "McGooney" McGovney - Bass Guitar.
Oh by the way, you just got a new subscriber.
Amazing song. Amazing guitar solo. Kirks finest moment!
One of the greatest intro to a song ever.
Thanks for 7 years of great music and the impact that Cliff had! This album is fantastic
Need to do welcome home (sanitarium) next please , and nothing else.matters was on the black album 1991, the last one most fans like lol
My fav Metallica song too!
My favorite Metallica song off my favorite Metallica album/CD. Awesome
One of the coolest parts of the song is it literally "fades to black" at the end, and the black is silence.
Best Song ever written, hands down
1986 i was 15 and cried for 2 weeks. RIP Cliff
Not only is this Metalica's top 5 song, but I say it is in the top 5 songs of any band, any genre, and any decade. Prove me wrong.
This was one my favourites. And i can tell you most people would have not thought this was heavy metal
Growing darkness taking Dawn what a line James Hetfield is brilliant!
If you want to see yet another side of Metallica, please check Bleeding Me with San Francisco Symphony (S&M1). Song is about James fight with alcoholism. It's a masterpiece.
Sept 27th 85' my birthday. I think about Cliff on my birthday every year one of my idols being a Bass player. A song about depression and suicide at such a young age way back in 85.. they went there looong before it was common place to even talk about it! Pioneering.
Awesome song❤
I have now caught up on your Metallica Journey.. I've subbed now. I see you two enjoy the musical aspect. I would suggest the song Orion from the Master Of Puppets album.
It's purely instrumental. You can derive what you feel from it, but it is one of the musical ensembles Cliff Burton had a hand in. Just putting that on the table for you.
Thanks for diving into a band that was important to me growing up..
You guys rock!
This is my favorite Metallica album
Fade to black is giving me the chills through my spine every time I sing it .
Metallica has some abolutely INCREDIBLE songs. Check out Sad but True, Wherever I roam and Unforgiven just for some more great ones.
I used to love listening to this song back in the day when I had the two Solo Baric 15's in the trunk. When Lars starts with the double bass drums in the solo it hit so hard it was like I had massaging seats lol
The Kings. We miss you Cliff 🤘
Cliff Burton (technically the second bassist, since Ron McGovney was the first but not on any album), passed away in 1986. It was around seven in the morning in Dörarp, north of Ljungby, Sweden. 27th of September. According to a crew member Burton was moving slightly as a crane lifted up the bus, but the chain snapped mid-air and crushed him again.
Might be my favorite Metallica song too. Definitely up there
you really should watch a live performance of this...i´ts magical
awesome
It not just that their gear got stolen, but James (the main songwriter) his amp that he lost was a gift given to him by his mom before she died of cancer. It was a unique special sounding amp, I think for him it allowed a connection to her for him, and it was taken from him.
So a lot of people have fell to mention it is heavier rift because it was done by Cliff on the Bass. If you listen closely the lead in this song is the Bass guitar. This is the song that caused an issue with Jason Newstead and the rest of thr band which lead to Robert Trujillo being their bassist.
