I thought I was overthinking with the references too, and if there was only one mv referenced it could be just a coincidence, but since there were so many I think itâs intentional. I donât think it means anything though, Mamamoo sometimes reference their other mvs or concepts but itâs rarely something deep (youâll see a lot of objects insinuating other solo and group works inside the trailer on Where Are We Now mv too).
Starry Night was so obvious, not only because of the road and running part, but also her clothes when sheâs inside the car are so similar to her clothes in that same scene in starry night (at least the top). Even the blonde hair fits the reference. It also seems like the road was on a kind of rural area and, of course, there were exactly four people when theyâre in the car and taking pictures. And also in starry night they also dance in the middle of the road (although in this part of in the mood there were more dancers).
Illella at 11:37 was also obvious for me, youâll notice when you get there hahaha
On the last part of the mv when sheâs dancing in the parking lot it reminded me of Lunatic by Moonbyul and I Love My Body by Hwasa. This one is probably not intensional, itâs just the lighting style in the scene that made me overthink maybe đ
And yes I agree about the other references to Gogobebe and her other solo mvs, I keep wondering if thereâs more and we didnât notice đ€Ł
I'm over here trying to over analyzing this mv being like "Wheein what are the signs?!" LOL I feel like some of them maybe intentional to show her growth as a solo artists but also always being a part of Mamamoo, just some extra thoughts I had after the fact
In my opinion the watcher's/consumer's interpretation is just as important as the intentions of the creators.
I remember a lecturer really drilling into my class that once a piece of creative media you've created is released into the world, it doesn't belong to you anymore. People can interpret it in certain ways even if that wasn't your intention. And that's how it should be, and that's okay. That really stuck with me.
So what I'm trying to say is it doesn't matter if the references are intentional. You aren't 'overthinking' because that's how you saw it through your particular lense! (which makes total sense since you've been totally submerged in Mamamoo content and ALSO simultaneously trying to make sense of the Loona MVs which have sooo many intentional references and things to pick apart đ€Ł)
First time I watched it I was also was reminded of Starry Night during the road bit đ
Maybe a bit of overthinking, but some just seem so obvious, like the "starry night" road and "illella" scaffolding. Some of the others may be intentional or accidental, we'll likely never know unless she (or others involved creatively) specifically says so
Butterflies are wheein's thing, so she'll put them in pretty much everything she has anything to do with, and flowers go so well with butterflies (doesn't hurt that flowers are associated with hwasa. I'm sure not every time we see a flower in wheein's stuff it is an 'and hwasa!' thing, but sometimes it could be). Plus certain flowers are as important to wheein as butterflies are. Such as magnolia blossoms, which were part of wheein's mother's conception dream for her (the album that was "easy" was called 'magnolia' and the cover, which she did, was her with a magnolia blossom in her mouth. This also became one of her earliest tattoos, on her right bicep)
oh I'm like 1000% overthinking this LOL but that's often my brain overanalyzing things sometimes đ€Łđ€Ł
The L1ve (Wheein's label) released a live version of "In the Mood" on their channel. There is a live version of "Dance 4 You" on SBS radio but I don't know what they are like for copywriter infringements.
There is another song that was supposed to be the title track but then they made in the mood and left the other song out of the album even though they finished recording and all.
The album was always supposed to be in the mood, the title track wasn't. So maybe the red butterflies and those letters at the end were for that song.
All four running down a road happened multiple times (last time it happened was 1,2,3 Eoi!), if you are right and this is full of scenes from other MVs the walking between the scaffolding is from illella.
You're definitely onto something regarding at the very least some of the references, but I'm sure others will be more adept at breaking them down in the comments than me haha! I was sure you'd love this track, it has such a chill RnB, classic Wheein vibe, and the MV is beautiful đ€
goood i cant wait for u to react to the whole album! thank u sm for marathon-ing wheein's music way back before diving into her recent release. in the mood is her best album to date. how i wish she had more opportunities to showcase it because i think mostly wheein/moomoo fans listened to it đ„Č have fun đ
thank you for watching! hope you enjoyed the videos! I'm glad I decided to do it listening to her older music before getting to the recent solo đ„°
Finally! â€
we're here! đ„°
There were a lot of references and you mentioned some. If you had seen 1llella MV the scaffolding she walks through in this MV is the same as the one the group walks through in 1llella. Also, the MV is set in the 90s, with showing a 90s digital camera, an iPod and some other props. great song as you saw on the album.
Please listen to 17.
Full album tomorrow donât worry!!
She has 2 butterfly tattoos and overall 18 tattoos altogether
