My mom has been taking lithium for over 10yrs. She's currently at the hospital because she couldn't move her left side, lack of sleep, and urine retention. So right now the physicians game plan is to stop all medications and see if thats what's causing her mania, insomnia, and lack of mobility. Please think long and hard before taking this medication long term.
Oh no. 💗💐
How many milligrams?
10 years is too much
I’ve been taking it for 20+ at night for sleep. 600 mg. I’ve experienced no issues
Sounds like FI to me. she could have a prion disease
I got on Lithium a year ago. My harm urges went WAY down. Totally worth the side effects for me.
I totally agree with you. I've been taking it for 3+yrs now. Just started having thyroid issues yet I don't wanna discontinue lithium. God will work it all out.
My boyfriend has bipolar II, but the only medication that has ended up working for him turns out to be lithium. He was never explained why blood levels or hydration is so important, he hasn’t had his levels checked in like a year (he’s been taking it for like 5 years).
Get those levels checked like now ..that's dangerous .. my dad died to high levels of lithium ..his kidneys stopped working
Dnt leave him plzzzzzzz❤❤
Update: he had them checked like 6 months ago they didn’t change the dose
@@tasteoflifeMe we have been together for 10 years now so don’t worry
Thank You for this. I was on lithium for 20+ years and only recently got off of it due to a reaction that occurred during a 5 month stay in the hospital. My kidneys were shutting down, my calcium was through the roof, my potassium was bottoming out. In addition I became a diabetic insulin dependent and needed oxygen regularly. As a “ shot in the dark”, one of my doctors suggested I go off of the lithium and miraculously only after a few days all those complications I mentioned stabilized and all treatments were suspended. I have since added to my medical profile that along with penicillin, lithium is now an additional allergy.
How was the detox process until getting completely off of lithium?
@@mgcolom It only took about 3 days to titration off the lithium batteries. Didn’t really experience much notable effects, definitely no withdrawal. In place of the lithium my psychiatrist put me on hydroxyzine and things are pretty stable.
were you on lithium orotate?
No, I was on Lithium Carbonate
@richardbenes4169 you should really look into lithium orotate, it doesn't have the side effects of the carbonate. It's better absorbed by the body too.
Thank you so much for this. I am in the process of discontinuing lithium now, after experiencing kidney problems. I was on lithium for many years and I wish that my doctors had looked into trying something else instead of waiting until a crisis. Everyone who takes lithium should be aware of the side effects and ask their doctor about switching if they've been taking it for a long time instead of waiting until things go south. I love your videos; they have so much helpful information.
Hey I m a bipolar person pls tell me how can I handle situation with these side effects I m taking lithium from last 10 years and now my weight is on peak what should I do pls reply
How is the detox process?
were you on lithium orotate or that pharmaceutical garbage?
Which dose did you take?
I personally use Quetiapine (seroquel) to treat my type II bipolar disorder, it works very well on me with no side effects (but I guess it can be different with everyone)
It gave me diabete
it turned me into a sociopath numb of any feeling
Use mineral lithium not pharmaceutical lithium
Lithium is lithium. Just like sodium is sodium.
@JamesCraigHeath007 not true sugar is not sugar sodium is not sodium lithium is not lithium this is a false belief
@@TopG-Official you are Bottom-G. Mid-G on your best days. Definitely not TopG.

Lithium oratate is better absorbed in the brain at lower doses without the toxicity and side affects therefore i prefer lithium oratate for treating bipolar. You can say im wrong but lithium oratate is just a superior form of lithium.
What dosage are you taking. ??
Carbonate works for my case
Apparently lithium in much lower doses might still be beneficial without all these side effects. Not exactly for bipolar though.
I wonder what dosage is needed for its suicide-preventive effects.
That aint gonna rack in the Big pharma cash tho
@@vincentdolente7053even high dose lithium prescriptions don’t rack in for big pharma because it’s a natural element

My son has bipolar with mania and depression!he tried lithium, didn’t do well on that drug! He is trying to treat without meds! He’s not doing good right now, i just bought your book. I hope on getting info on treating bipolar without meds, his choice. Any ideas on a natural medication for him?
What dosage is he taking if you don't mind me asking??
Keto diet Andrew huberman has an interview with the doctor. I can't remember his name, but he talks about mitochondria. It's here on CZcams if you just type in Andrew huberman. He's a Penn State, I believe neurosurgeon, and he doesn't abuse different experts in their field.
How is he doing right now mme? Did you find a way to treat him without med?
You can’t. He absolutely needs meds
So true..........that med is in my past...Thanks
Lithium gave me the scariest hallucinations that will haunt me for the rest of my life
I was terrified of people even my kids 😢
What dosage were you taking???
Im so sorry and i hope you got it sorted now
@@SpiKSpaN-ei6zqit doesn’t matter, i have taken the lowest level of trazadone for sleep and i heard and saw a ghost banging at my door, peoples' brains just are wired differently that's why we aren't all on the same doses of the same meds.
natural lithium in small amounts like 5 or 10 mg is the actual nutrient for the brain. it's my personal belief that when they use it in higher doses as a medication it becomes toxic rather quickly. you'd be surprised what a small dose will do. I was prescribed it when I was younger and when it got hot out I pretty much OD'd on it I was dehydrated. then I tried it in a small dose as an adult in a supplement and it had a much different effect.
im on 600 mg lmao, stopped taking the pills and for that i am much happier
@chadofchads4390 you most definitely need to look into lithium orotate.
I think that's the whole problem here, this video isn't about lithium orotate, it's about the pharmaceutical stuff. This video could keep thousands of people from being happy.
@@rudyferrellLithium can destroy the kidneys and kill you.
Lithium is a heavy metal, they're not even sure why it works. It's definitely not a "nutrient for your brain", they use it in batteries.
I've never gave medicine a shot long ago scared of side affects . But I know I need help. I'm a mess and it's come to s point where I know I need help .
Lithium helps me but the side effects are scary. But many other medications don't have as bad side effects as Lithium.

@@mattrinehart9348 I have been on all of those medications in the past except Seroquel. I am still on Seroquel. Sorry for the long message
Good for you, Matt. This is a step in the right direction. If you’re concerned about side effects, I would schedule a follow-up call with your practitioner if you can to have them explain what docs typically see side-effects wise (physically, mentally, timelines). It is perfectly ok to ask these questions & you are not asking for anything out of the way by asking them. I was very lucky that the first doc to prescribe meds for me did just that & she took her time. Way to take care of YOU, fam. ❤
Lithium made me want to kms I never had suicidal thoughts till I took those meds😭😭
My dad takes 500mg in the morning and another 500mg in the afternoon. It's not ideal, he developed diabetes. But he goes mental without. What's the alternative? 😢
Apart from other med options I know that there is ect and tms. Good luck and maybe other users can give additional thoughts or advice.
I was on a low dose of lithium 600mg for years. It worked great for me, but the hand tremors were horrible. Finally stop taking it a year ago.
Low dose??? I'm on a longevity protocol that has me taking 1mg lithium per day. 600mg is a ton!
@@BlakeMadsen if you’re taking 1mg of lithium then you’re taking Lithium Orotate which is different from Lithium Carbonate which is what I was taking. 600mg is considered low and is not in the therapeutic range.
@@jcfc8197 This is correct, my mistake
Your blood concentration was too high on the scale. The higher you are the more likely you’ll get tremors

Lithium is the worst shit ever
Did it make you sleepy
Thank you for your video. I just learned where a lot of cobalt and lithium comes from. There's a lot of medical need coming for some miners.
This doesn’t sound safe
Because, it’s not. I wouldn’t recommend undergoing lithium treatment unless you’re retired, have good medical insurance and a life insurance policy.
@@user-jq9oo2tx8iim not retired and im doing great on it lol quit fear mongering
I’ve been on it 7 years and for me its amazing
Been on lithium for more than 3 years.. It used to be sodium valproate before that.. though I feel like nothing unusual with this med cause I don’t feel obvious side effects that make me go crazier, sometimes the suicidal thoughts still linger, especially when there’s a trigger.
God I hated everything about being on Lithium but I was also on Respiradone and Effexxor at the same time... I called it being "on the zombie train", my range of emotions was reduced to a tiny band. I could've watched a loved one get attacked by a bear and barely reacted.
Effexor is the devil. I got brain zaps coming off it
You said in a video dated 5 years back that Lithium is one of the top 3 choices for Mixed Mania. Now with this video you are saying the opposite... Are you aware of this discrepancy in your content? Were you mistaken in the past or is there new findings since the video 5 years ago? I know that this is the internet, but I would like to know that I am taking in content from a credible source while navigating my health plan and journey in mental health.
Lithium didn’t work for me at all. It turned me into a zombie with my hair falling out, gained 80 pounds in eight months, couldn’t function at all, shaking all the time, yet I was still depressed as heck and having the occasional manic meltdowns. I was in hell for a year. Eventually I got off of it and it took many years to find a med cocktail that works for me.
Lithium nearly ruined my life.
I have bipolar 2 disorder but I have never taken Lithium as medication except the only medication I usually take is Sertraline and that really helps me A LOT to lower my depression and control my mood swings but I know this doesn't help to many people but at least some of them depending how it makes you feel...
That's interesting, because Sertraline is * theoretically * an antidepressant, not a mood stabilizer. I take Sertraline, Quetiapine and Lithium. Only the last one got rid of my suic*dal thoughts for good.
@@laguria4536I also take Quetiapine for sleeping
It’s dangerous to take antidepressants without a mood stabilizer if you have bipolar disorder. You’re at risk of a manic episode
@@Jess-he9fc maybe but it does help me lower my mood swings and it doesn't affect me at all. So I'm not having any problems with it but it does to some people but it depends on how their body works or affects them and mentally. So I'm fine and I have taken them for many years now.
Lithium made me really ill. I'm now on quetiapine and vortioxetine for my bipolar 1,I'm still not doing very well though and I'm starting an intensive therapy course tomorrow.
The combination of lithium and quitepine is the best, it litterely cure for a long long time
Quetiapine can cause you Akathisia and Parkinson in the long term. It's a dangerous drug.

The great things about lithium for people with bipolar is; it is an anti inflammatory on the brain, its a neuroprotective, it increases bdnf in the brain and helps improve cognitive function in the brain. Certain terpenes and cannabanoids found in cannabis do exactly the same thing without all of these horrible side effects that lithium has! Il list them now for you but I have bipolar was on 15 different types of medications for a period if 5 years all the medications made my symptoms worse the antipsychotics and mood stabilisers made me feel depressed and the antidepressants made me manic nothing worked until my psychiatrist prescribed me cannabis to treat my bipolar ever since then I've had less episodes and the ones I do have are minor in comparison to what it was like before I started being prescribed cannabis by my psychiatrist
if you have bipolar and are reading this please don't just go out and buy some cannabis to see if it works there are over 5000 different strains of cannabis all that can be used to treat different illnesses all with different terpenes and cannabanoids in them and different levels of each so the chance of u buying one that is helpful in treating bipolar is very low infact there are some strains of cannabis that can make the symptoms of bipolar worse cannabis is a medication like any other medication it has to be prescribed by a doctor but here are the terpenes and cannabanoids that do exactly the same thing as lithium without any of the horrible side effects mentioned in this video lol
Beta-Caryophyllene is an anti-inflammatorys that work on the brain specifically. It is an antioxidant. It also modulates and lessens the psychoactive effects of thc. So will stop you feeling high from the thc found in some strains of cannabis.
Limonene increases bdnf in the brain. It is also an anti inflammatory on the brain. This terpene also modulates and lessons the psychoactive effects of thc.
Alpha-Pinene improves cognitive function in the brain it is also an anti inflammatory on the brain.
CBD is a cannabanoid found in cannabis that is a neuroprotective
Switching to cannabis to treat my bipolar has given me and my family our lives back!
More people need to know it is an option for them I didn't think it was until recently!
The worst side effects you can get with lithium is death! Still to this day nobody has died from overdosing on cannabis!
shes talking about lithium carbonate a synthetic version, lithium orotate is natural and has not got side effects if used correctly
I really enjoy your CZcams channel and TikTok
I think lithium’s good prophylactic treatment for all the mood disorders/affective psychoses for the fact alone (if nothing-else) that it greatly reduces the long-term risk of suicide (something people who often have mixed episodes are at an especially-high risk for).
Dr. Marks said in this video that Lithium isn't a drug to treat mixed episodes.
@@Sharon-sw7mr I know. What I’m saying is that people who have mixed manic-depressive episodes tend to have a more severe type of bipolar disorder which is more associated with suicide. Lithium certainly wouldn’t be first-line for someone in the throes of a mixed episode (you’d want to use valproate as far as mood-stabilisers go) but when it comes to helping people like that long-term and reducing their risk of suicide lithium definitely has a place. Valproate isn’t that good for long-term treatment.
Thats why i stop taking this
Lithium carbonate or orolate?
Do you have a short based on Seroquel ?
How about Lithium Orotate ???
I just never feel like I'm on top of the world or anything like that. But I have have DPDR and anxiety . But sometimes wonder if I have bi polar with it cuz my dad is
Hello, did it help you with DPDR ? Thank you
Lithium works so well for my bipolar disorder but it has its effects on my body
I take Lithium. It helps me better than the other mood stabilizers. The side effects are scary though.
Lithium for my bi polar fucked me up real bad.
What do you think of the theory stating that mental illness is needed to reach a certain development of character? (positive disintegration)
That’s dumb
What is a good alternative to lithium? Seroquel?
I would say so. Seroquel definitely has it’s drawbacks like the munchies but it didn’t nearly fry my brain and body like the lithium did.
Can you make a video about Clonidine for ADHD treatment please?
I'm taking it from 2 weeks 600mg as my Doc prescribed
Replace "can" w/"DOES" RE: adverse effects.
I know this isn’t good to say but honestly weed helps me so much. I’ve tried so many medications and it just doesn’t work. Lethium made me feel very sick and since you have to check your blood, it made me so tired. I don’t use weed all the time but when I need it I’ll use it
Without lithium i cant survive. I am not much aware about its side effects. But must do lithium test, then only you stop that medicine. Otherwise decease will caught backk!!! So dont do!!
@Tracy Marks . Question I have severe anxiety . But I also have random delusions like people are following me or someone's talking about me . Only thing is I don't believe it. It's not like I believe the same thoughts. Its more or less why the hell is that there. Don't know if it's anxiety or not . My dad has bi polar but I never was depressed ever or showed any signs until all of sudden a year ago I went into some kind of mental illness and haven't been right since . Idk if it's depression from anxiety or depression along with anxiety .
Today, the mushroom compound is being used in clinical trials for end-of-life anxiety, treatment-resistant depression, cluster headache, addiction, eating disorders and other conditions with unprecedented success, and psilocybin-assisted therapy has been given FDA “breakthrough therapy” status as a treatment for depression.

That should be illegal. It’s a horrible drug and despite what people say, you’re probably better off self medicating than taking this garbage. It cooks your brain and body fast, sometimes you don’t even notice it until you’re about to die of lithium toxicity.
I take lithium for depression… is this normal?
yes.. in cases that havent responded to other meds
My mania has only increased on lithium it’s really strange
My favorite part of taking lithium was on top of these awful side effects, it didn't make me feel better at all.
No, and I don’t prefer to allow my brain to be used as a testing bed for miscellaneous medications. This mess is even harder on your mind and body than Opioids and Benzodiazepines but given the fact that it’s not a controlled substance, the doctors know that they can’t be held accountable if it kills you.
ALL of it is throwing crap at a wall to see what sticks.
Lithium causes me to develop Psoriasis. I am on a very low dose for my Major Depressive Disorder.
Could you please elaborate. What form and dosage do you take?
