- I purchased a large collection of silver coins from a collectors and he had several things marked as Repunched MM as well as other things, so I sent them in for grading to see if he was accurate in his markings. These are the results!

What I can’t understand is how all of these grading companies can’t find a way to design a knockout slab with graphics. I know we’re supposed to buy the coin, and not the slab. But can’t we take it up a couple levels?
I like PCGS slabs but I hate the coloring. I actually love the old soapbox slabs. Wish they’d go back to them

ANACS slabs look “Walmartish” in my opinion. Not sure if a better label would help that.😜
@@remyferrari8501 Agree! Walmartish is a great way to describe Anacs. Their grading may be fine, but show it through putting out a descent slab. For the cost of PCGS and NGC they should be a knockout showing off the coin. And don’t get me started with CAC. A green or gold bean sticker is supposed to be the gold standard of grading? All I can say is there is a vacuum in the grading industry.
If your enjoying yourself thats all that really matters. I like your videos. You live and learn. Same goes for me.
Nothing wrong with the outcome. You paid for a learning experience. I’ve been experimenting with grading (bulk especially) and look at it as a gamble. Carry on!
Ive had ANACS not put a variety/error and sent in to PCGS and got it. Not sure why but after that I stopped using them since it woulda cost me a few grand without the error lables (totaled about 400 without labels and 2300 with labels so was a big drop). NGC or PCGS from here on cuz that wasnt even the first time theyve not labeled a clear error/variety. Also broadstrike coin is literally just a coin without its intended collar/edge, essentially what you had but the one you had was just worn down, not missing the edge unfortunately as you can see some of it still remaining. RPMs on the other hand can be complicated but the majority can be easily located. Best bet when starting out looking for them in comparison with machine doubling is machine doubling tends to disform the mint mark (a D will not have the straight line and will be bent in some way making it non-straight) also with most machine doubling theres damage somewhere else on the coin like the lettering has damage. It will look like it tried to double but stopped mid way lol. Almost all the time a machine doubled mint mark will cause damage to other letters/numbers so that's a clear indication when looking for rpms
I had PCGS label a quarter a nickel as well as several other mistakes and missed varieties. I only keep them for my registry. Thanks for the info on the coins!
@@rockysramblings Oh yea trust me I agree 100% lol. PCGS can mess up bad too thats a fact but based on severity id say PCGS makes less mistakes as well as being open to correcting their errors if brought to their attention. But the main reason I dont mind a mislabel from pcgs is because mislabels from them actually sell, theres actual collectors who pay premium prices for incorrect PCGS labels and in fact ive sold one for a 32% premium a year back they had mislabel A CC for a SF and it sold quite easily with multiple bids. ANACS on the other hand doesnt seem to get a premium for its mislabels which sucks because I do like ANACS holders. So because of that premium specifically for PCGS holders, I dont mind sending to PCGS because ill make money from the correct grade/label or selling the error slab. Thats essentially the reason I stick with PCGS.
Not bad out come. I understand its an experiment to see what ANACS says. Washington quarters have a lower value and they are not good selling items. I USE ANACS AS A FILTER. there convenience and cheap pricing as great for me. If i get a great grade i can crossover to PCGS

Look up the term broadstruck. If you are gonna do this, you need to understand how coins are struck, etc.
There is so much great information available in books and online. Take advantage of it as well as the online message boards, etc of CoinHelp4U
If you don’t know what is what you are gonna waste a LOT of money and time.

I’m not upset with ANACS. I should have made a better effort of determining what I had. I do wish they would have labeled the die cracks tho.
@@rockysramblings I like anacs, They will slab coins with problems. Sometimes you want to know if a coin is real or not. ant come back in a body bag.
@@joelp6197 I like that as well. Especially when you still have to pay the fee. I also like that they grade detailed coins. I feel they do a better job all around. The grade is what people really want and they grade on par with PCGS and NGC.
Broad struck coin is a off center strike. To be worth grading has to be very noticeable. For example if you see a coin that is half blank planchet and half struck that would be a broad struck coin.

That last one looks nowhere near like a 66. There's too big of a scratch across the face. Looks more like a 63 to me. Grading Quarters and Dimes is so hard because of how small they are. I once had a batch of BU barber dimes I sent off to NGC because they looked spotless to me and I thought they would come back at least 65 or higher but they all turned out to be 62 to AU58. Crazy, you need to have super critical grading skills and have like a x20 loupe to properly grade coins that small. Lesson learned.

How can it be machine doubling on mint mark . When they did them by hand .

MD Push Doubling is extremely common and has hypothetically been suggested as a product of a loose hammer or anvil die, after the strike with some of the original energy of the strike transferred, there is a rebound and a shift that sends the die back down, typically in a slightly altered position where it subsequently hits the design on the coin and pushes it down. The result is a flat, shelf like area of the design that appears to differing degrees as being doubled.
Imagine hammering the mint mark and the device holding the mint stamp jumps a small degree, doubling the mint mark with the recoil from the initial hit. The coins are also put into a chamber with the picture of the coin (like a perfect fit) so it can bounce on hit thereby damaging other parts of the coin as the coin bounces and turns to not perfectly fir its chamber.
So 1 way is a reoil effect accidently restriking the mint mark a 2n time and shifting it and the other is when it bounces out of its chamber so the letters get damaged

Somewhat. Been collecting my whole life but I’m new to variety hunting.
I sent in 55 nickel D over s and it was I sent them microscope pictures . They hand punch mint marks up until 89 .

Nope. Right now I just collect. Maybe someday
so you detail coins and sell at higher grade than they should be? Think I'll stick with dealers I know and trust!

@rockysramblings Good now you'll save yourself a big disappointment. Now no reason to keep in ANACS slabs. Break it out put in plastic capsules now same value, now you don't have to look at that over graded coin anymore...
