    Great job sir. Yes, those logs get heavy in a hurry. Work smart, not hard! Be well and stay safe.

      Thank you, Todd! I milled another big ponderosa yesterday- not sure if it’s just the species or their age but they are sure full of moisture. Especially the outer boards- just heavy! 😁

    What do you think about this log? Are you a fan of the blue on the inside of this ponderosa pine? Thankfully, we didn't judge this log by its outside! Hope you enjoy this video, let us know what you think! 😁

    Mike Morgan of Outdoors with the Morgan’s has had success cleaning the sap off the blade by spraying a little diesel fuel on the blade after every pine log he cuts.

      Hi, Norm and Kim, thanks for the info.
      I’ve been hesitant about using diesel because they say it’s bad on the belts. It’s a battle with these lodge pole logs. Everything else just doesn’t have the pitch problems like jack pine. Thanks for watching! 😄

    Great job ! that ponderosa pine gave you a lot of nice 1", big heavy but once you slabs off it goes pretty quick :) I don't get any ponderosa pine here but I have some nice 14" spruce to get threw next week :) It probably feels good to have your beans all done ! skid steer sure saves the back , Stay safe "

      Thank you! The skid steer has been essential for this project! Does spruce do any blueing? Cut a lot of spruce firewood when I lived in Alaska but can’t remember if there was blueing (I think so).
      Still have a few (30) beams to cut - just ran out of doug fir logs. Good luck milling your spruce this week! 😊

      @@ourdreaminthewoods Ya If the tree has been down a couple years the bark soaks up moisture you get a little blueing on the outside couple inches, I have no skid steer so i made log deck 25 feet long, & made my shed wide enough to put trailer right beside me, so no throwing boards that kill my back, so i tried to make it simple :)

    I love your channel! I’m making my way through your sawmill shed videos. My mill will be delivered any day now and I’m planning on building a sawmill shed similar to what you have built. Is there any way you would mind sharing some of the basic dimensions?

      @ourdreaminthewoods  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Hi! Thank you! If you look in the description of the videos, we share the dimensions. If you need more than that, just let us know. We’d be happy to help! 😄

    Nice logs! I have been watching your videos on when you were milling for the mill cover building. I see you mentioned about the laser on the mill but I have yet to see you use it? Any reason why! Just wondering?

    • @ourdreaminthewoods
      @ourdreaminthewoods  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Hi, Ian, thank you! For me that laser was a bust. Just couldn’t project down the log like I was hoping. But I have something else in the works- I have someone from Byers Timber Tech coming on Friday. So more to come! 😁

    I'm curious to know if the electric woodland mill lift is accurate for repeatable cuts?

    • @ourdreaminthewoods
      @ourdreaminthewoods  Před 5 měsíci +3

      Hi, the lift isn’t tied to any measuring device. I am measuring off a ruler that slides up and down as I move the saw head. It needs adjustment occasionally but generally stays put. 😆
