    Thank you Leigh for bringing us a wonderful tribute to the very talented and gifted Alan J. W. Bell. Very well deserved. What a delightful and creative individual Alan was. So sorry to learn that he is no longer with us. God bless his soul.

    How lovely and gratifying to hear your tribute to Alan JW Bell, which I most wholeheartedly endorse. In the midst of the fulsome tributes being paid to him on social media in the wake of his death, there has been no news coverage of his passing on the part of the BBC - a snub which I believe speaks with unpleasant eloquence for itself, for which the BBC should hang its head in shame.
    Thanks are due for your words on the subject of dementia. My Mom turned 90 this year, so I will be doing my very best to fulfill the vital need for diligence and vigilance in monitoring her for any signs of incipient dementia. Cheers!

      Hi PJ, thank you. I noted the lack of recognition from the BBC, realistically he was as notable as any artist, actor or comic, any of whom would get some mention on the BBC. While many producers and crew might pass unnoticed, he was prolific and even people who would not recognise him, would remember him as the producer of the longest running sitcom in the world.

    sad news indeed. all the greats are leaving us. He had an enviable legacy: Crackerjack, Call My Bluff and Ripping Yarns are very fondly remembered and of course, his triumph...the Wine!

    To say I love "all things brit", is an understatement. It's always sad when one passes away isn't it? But Mr. Bell, may he rest in eternal peace, have brought so much joy and laughter into my life and countless others, will live on I'm quite sure in the hearts of many. Last of the summer wine is the last show on my t.v Every night. I want to thank you sir for all the previous work that you brought in the past months. God's continued blessings on all involved. Thank you. ❤❤❤

      Alex, thank you. This project started out as an idea for "a" video. I'm really pleased so many people have enjoyed the series. It is sad we have lost so many of the cast and crew, but their legacy lives on in nearly 300 episodes of one of the best comedy television series ever created.

    A really nice remembrance with an important message about dementia. Part of what drew me into Summer Wine is the unique sense of visuals and loving depiction of the landscape, and it would seem a huge chunk of that came from Alan Bell.

      Alan definitely favoured the scenery and landscapes!

      Where can we find the 25 years programme? Seen the 30 years one on internet

      "30 Years of 'Last of the Summer Wine'" is an updated version of "25 Years..." so you have not missed much. I'm sure it is on t'Internet somewhere. As far as I am aware, only the 30 Years version has been released on DVD as an extra on "Last of the Summer Wine - Vintage 1995", but It is only for region 1 (North America, etc.) so would not play on UK DVD players.

      Hi Gunner, we were shocked, although we knew Alan was not well. No Steptoe and son here, but not because I don't rate them, I'd have every sitcom if I could!

    Your series on LOTSW has been exemplary . It would be nice to have an update on Roy Clark , who must be near 90 by now ? You might consider writing a book for us fans ? I am constantly amazed at the talent we see on CZcams , as good as anything on the main stream.

    • @upstagedbyadog
      @upstagedbyadog  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Pleased you have enjoyed the video series. Sadly Roy Clarke is also unwell, so was not able to assist my research. I have written a book based on my video series, with some updates. "Summer Wine Decanted" is available on Amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CLMCRY5C
      People on CZcams are often people who missed their chance for tv fame!! 😉

      @@upstagedbyadog Just ordered a copy ! Perhaps you could put a little advert on the end of your videos , like many other people do ?
      Often wondered if Roy Clark still lived at Austerfield , which I often passed on the way to Donny.
      As an expert on all things LOTSW , have you any idea what happened to the Appreciation Society , which just ceased abruptly many years ago ( after I had just paid my subscription !). I used to live a few valleys away from Holmfirth and always parked in Greenfield Rd when I visited ( for free ) , and even now , after 13 years ,the town attracts visitors. I often wondered if Summer Wine themed breaks would be popular with the many fans.

    • @upstagedbyadog
      @upstagedbyadog  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Thanks for ordering my book! There is a link for the book on some of the video descriptions. Once videos are uploaded to CZcams you can't add anything to the video. I know a few people who wanted to know what happened to the appreciation society - no one seems to know the definitive answer, but it did seem to end at the same time as the show. Perhaps they did not expect it to remain popular or be repeated so often. Nora Batty's cottage is popular, it seems to be fully booked almost a year in advance. The tour bus still operates, although I understand Colin the driver might be considering stopping, but not because it's not popular.

    You were hoping not having to do such a follow up after the series. Inevitably one more to do at some point sadly.

      "The Last Drop" video was intended to be the end of the series, it was a shock to us that - even before it was published - Alan had passed away. I knew Alan was unwell, and so too is Roy Clarke, so, sadly, I do anticipate another video, at some point.

    According to Alan's book the young lady executive sacked cast crew and extras on LOTSW by text then was sent to channel 4 ending in disgrace, what was her name (PS) Keep up the excellent documentaries.

      Thanks Alex. In his book, Alan said he received an email from Jay Hunt, the new Controller of BBC1, notifying him the show was to be cancelled - despite having just completed editing a series, that would then not be shown. Soon after this Hunt was placed on “gardening leave”. An Employment Tribunal upheld complaints from a TV presenter of age discrimination and victimisation by Hunt. Hunt joined Channel 4 in January 2011 as Chief Creative Officer, where she later faced further discrimination accusations.
