    Wow, so impressed with the rookie play of my fellow Bruin Jaime Jaquez Jr.!
    His decision to come back to UCLA for a 4th year really paid off for him. He came into the NBA a more mature and experienced player and it shows in his play as a rookie.
    If he stays healthy I predict a very successful NBA career for him.

      I didn't go to UCLA but I'm the older brother of a great 😊 UCLA player in the 80s Darren Daye and we are amazed at how well Jaime is doing in the NBA. For some reason Darren didn't think he shoots well enough from 3, but I'm going to show him this vid to prove how effective he is.
      It's also just fun watching him play. The NBA is so tough to have a career in, but the right fit is so imperative that it can determine bust or bloom despite your talent level. What a great fit Miami is to Jaime and vise versa. Here's to many years to the coolest rookie this year, or of the years.
      GO BRUINS!!!! err HEAT!!!

      @@markucla : I definitely remember your younger brother - in fact I saw him play when he was a senior at Granada Hills Kennedy High School in (I believe) 1979.
      As with most super star players in high school Darren dominated the game - he was like a man among boys and could score any time he wanted to.
      Side note: the center on the Kennedy HS team that game was a junior named Stuart Gray, who also played for UCLA.

    4 year college players translate so well into the NBA. 90% of lottery picks turn into underwhelming career players, but these players that get drafted after playing multiple years in college are good, smart players that can fit on any team being a good role player.

    • @bdflatlander
      @bdflatlander Před 6 měsíci

      I think part of the problem with the one-and-done players is you have a bunch of 19 year old kids who need more time at the college level to develop their game and need more maturity to deal with a) the grind of the long NBA season and b) the enormous amount of money they are handed.
      Jaime Jaquez is a sterling example of how delaying your entry into the pros to give yourself some more time to grow up can pay big dividends. If Jaime had declared for the NBA draft after his 3rd season he would have been at best a second round draft choice. But after his 4th year at UCLA he elevated himself to a first round pick and is is definitely in the conversation for rookie of the year.
      IMO he only gets better from here.

    I am a Lakers / USC basketball fan, I remember watching Jaquez @UCLA year after year exceed expectations. I wanted the Lakers to draft him bad, we took Hood - Schifino with the 17th pick and I remember saying to myself “Maybe I’m crazy but I don’t think taking Jaquez @ 17 was too high”, with the VERY NEXT PICK, *THE* Miami Heat made a very smart pick. Look at how it is working out. He is contributing in a very big way on a team that, as usual, year after year, exceeds expectations. #BasketballFanMoreThanALakersFan

They're like "oh im not guarding you, you make that shot, i dont care" But damn, if you're a decent vet, you will give it your all. If that rookie made a shot even if u defended him, he's gonna feel good abt himself - and if you block him or steal the ball from him - i bet that rookie is still gonna feel good abt himself, bcos u know, as a rookie, u look upto all the vets.
