I personally feel like she looks like a combination of a Fortnite and sims character, The model looks great and all but its just not sabine and she looks way older than she used to, i'm kinda disappointed in sso and I hope Katja and Jessica won't change as much as sabine did 😕
Oh boy... They just released something about all the new Dark Riders and none of them are the same. They're like completely different characters, and even though Katja is the most recognizable, I'm still not happy with the way she turned out, she's still so different.
I agree that SSO is crazy bad with storytelling. Honestly, they haven't build a connection to any of the main characters, I couldn't care less about them thanks to SSO's bad story writing 🙃
I so agree with you on this!! They should have done something marvel studios would do. Making all kinds of side storyline quests besides the main story and making connections . A few crossovers as well. And then build all the stories up along with the main one to a big mashup later on. Perhaps sso could be building all the stories that have happend till now up. They've done these small crossovers before with the GED storyline that has an open end right now where Darko showed up. And which clearly showed a connection to the mainstory with the fight against Garnok. That story was about to be involved in the mainstory with the druids where Chill and the Keepers of aideen would meet through Herman to work together to destroy Darkcore and GED. But they just left it to disepear in the dust. The same way they made a crossover with Darko and a connection with the quest about Madisson and Nightdust to the mainstory. Now we did see mr Anwir again in the saving Anne quest but other than that they didn't do anything with Madison and Nightdust and the fact that Nightdust is a starbreed. They could have involved Madison in the mainstory later on as well after that crossover where she could be another druid in training and Nightdust by her side helping to defeat Garnok. We also could have learned more about Darkcore's nightmare institution where all kinds of dangerous monsters are kept but no they shoved all these connections to the side lines cause they don't know how to build their story. Or that quest with the Kallters? They again seemed to have started building on another side storyline about the Kallters, the Yeti and their home and creating another connection to the mainstory with the druids but they totally forgot about it. This all proves they don't know how to make a big story divided in side storylines with the mainstory where it all comes together interesting. They start but don't finish it!!
They're rebranding the main story and the main characters so much and so far away from the original ones that they're getting absolutely lost in it. It's kind of sad to be honest, and diappointing.
They made Lisa a country girl because a girl being an equestrian while listening to alternative music is weird? Well I see it more as a stereotype, I have heard more than once that girls whom ride horses are thought to be country girls full of mud and without manners, playing songs with guitars and such. So basically sse made Lisa into a horse riding girl stereotype. Doesn't sound empowering at all to me btw. Also I am pretty sure that there are teenage girls with spiky hair, tattoos on their arms and legs, multi coloured hair, who listen to rock n roll music and alternative pop who ride horses. I feel like everyone has the right to ride horses no matter their appearance. Also Billie Eilish is a horse rider enthusiast ( Idk if I have written her name wrong pls forgive me) and an alternative pop singer with multicoloured hair. Why can't Lisa be like Eilish? She could teach the female audience sso wants to show girl empowerment on, that no matter your appearance, your habits and your likings you can be accepted and be a horse rider. So f simple.
I'm an alternative equestrian, we definitely exist! Everything in your comment is so right... It's honestly disappointing and boring what they did to Lisa. She's literally the main character of every 'horse girl' movie in existence, now.
And it feels kinda backwards that the "villains" are the alternative and actually interesting people whereas the "heroes" fit the norms and have nothing different, nothing fun about them. It feels like it's normalizing the view on people which judges them by their appearance and hobbies/likes. Which is not too convenient for a kids game.
New Sabine looks more like old Lisa than new Lisa herself and it.... it stings. I've said it already but I don't like SSO's approach to redesigns. I understand they want to keep things fresh but the total disregard toward lore and older playerbase really makes me sad and with how little there's been happening in the game I have to say it- I kinda quit. I'm probably going to come back someday, maybe when the MC update rolls out but for now... this game has some serious issues and it can't seem to communicate well enough with its playerbase and it's not a new issue.
I agree, I think they only care about the new players. When they finish the quests and get bored with the game they will leave. But sso don’t care because they already got their money from them and the cycle always repeats. Imagine how much fun the game could be if they didn’t put all their efforts into making new horses constantly, we could get so much more but they barely make anything new and it takes ages for anything other than horses to be added. It’s sad to see what the game has turned into. It used to be such a mysterious and exciting feeling around this game but now everything is changed for the worse and be barely get quests.
Yes, Lisa was a Rockstar who went to loud concerts not slow country songs?? They completely change most personalities and it's different. It's annoying, we have to re-learn all these different characters just because of a re-design.
In all honesty i love the art style, but its just how she doesn’t look like herself. Definitely doesn’t show who Sabine really is, and on a side note.. she kind of looks like a Fortnite character… 😭
I’m a fairly new player but I love to look st older star stable games and I totally agree with everything you have said in this video it’s really sad to see that they’d aren’t even trying to make the lore make sense

As an older fan myself I agree with you 110%. When I saw this new sabine I was so disappointed. This game has really lost its spark for me, it has lost the magic and honestly its so detached from the old games that you can barely say they're related anymore. But like you said they clearly dont care about the story anymore... Its very sad how its just spiraling out of control at this point.
There's a leg they might stand on, and that's that Sabine, isn't human. Never was. She's a manifestation that Anne kicked in a portal. So this could be a new Karen look.

who cares if it looks nice if its not even the same character anymore? i’d rather have a ”low quality” character with the design we’ve known for literal 10+ years than a character with ”high quality” that looks like a stranger. these ”upgrades” are ruining the storyline and game experience, especially for the older players
Exactly it looks nice but it’s not like her,she used to be classy and now….I personally like khann but if you go on the Sso entertainment site it says that they’re adding more details.Also what about Stalker katjas horse they totally changed his colours and everything he was my favourite and the fact that they added Chiyo it used to be Nihili and now that’s her horses name chiyo looks like she is 8!!!
the reason why some people might be annoyed by criticism like Eleanors is cause they never cared about the game and the character, they only play for the horses so they could care less if Lisa change into a country girl they won't read the dialogue anyway.... which is why I think SSO is so comfortable changing everything cause most of the people don't play for the story
when I heard about sabine being updated I just thought they would make her horse a little new and give her a new model but same clothes same hair also sabine is supposed to be an equestrian not a 30 year old hunter
My gosh sso…. I loved sso because of the story. The story made me feel… whole! When I had no friends in sso the soul riders made me feel like I was part of something…. But when I finished the quests…. That went away. I’m not an old player like you, yes I have been playing for a few years, but I have kind of taken on the nostalgia from others… and the fact that sso doesn’t have a dedicated quest team… hah sso, you are loosing more players because you don’t freaking care about ANY of your old players! You only care about little girls wanting to ride horses. What about the older girls looking for a way to escape from reality…. Into a game, a world, full of magic! No, sso dosent care about girls wanting to indulge in a story that makes you feel whole. No, sso only cares about horses, money, new players, they don’t care at all about us! It makes me want to cry, and just get angry at them. I think also that sso avoids these videos… I want them to listen to their community! LIKE LOOK AT NINTENDO, THEY LITERALLY GAVE US ALL THE ANIMAL CROSSING UPDATES THAT THE NEW PLAYERS AND OLD PLAYERS WANT!!! The only part of sso that holds me on is my club, Night Feathers, and even that is crumbling, which isn’t sso’s problem… Anyways I love your videos! I agree with everything you're saying I also grew up with the Starshine Legacy games and also the star stable season riders. They really have now dropped the connection between SSO and the SSL series which is so dumb because the reason SSO came to existence was because of those games. It's pretty clear right now that the current team just doesn't know the games while the first team did. I started playing the game when it was just released and they had on the website pictures of the characters from SSL... it's really sad how the game has changed its path I rarely play the game anymore because of this. I want this game to be all about horses and mysterious based on the former games and more information because at times I feel in the SSL games there are so many loose threads. I also don't like the updated soul riders either or sabine.. I don't like how they changed them to make them more diverse...they already had a canon set and it's sad they didn't stick to it.
@1999waffles Yes sadly but they had access to the old games all along why not play them and get to know them instead of just rewriting everything? It will be such a bad story quality after what they have done now. From what I see from the comic books and the SSL Lisa's loss of her mum was not a big part of her story. What was more focused on was that she was afraid of horses and horse riding after being in an accident when she was a child. I don't mind they put focs on the loss of her mum but that was not a big part of who she used to be. Thing is Lisa was the character that had the most backstory out of all the girls. We didn't get to know the other girls as much as we did with Lisa and that makes me more confused about these girls saying they didn't know who she is. They should have built up more backstory for the other girls than her especially Linda while staying true to her character and not changed things from what it used to be
I absolutely adore the new designs, they're interesting and a breath of fresh air, but unfortunately i agree, the inconsistency is becoming really noticable. Being a 10 year player, the storyline i play is so warped nowadays :-(
I'm an older player myself and it makes me rly sad when I see that sso is actively trying to distance themselves from the ssl games and rewrite the lore. Don't get me wrong I like when they add stuff or explore it even furher... but they had a solid base. A solid base we all loved and that worked well. With Lisa I was frustrated the most, cuz I loved her persona. However I accepted her as this country girl BUT THEN sso introduced Skye from the Mistfall series and boi I went feral :D She's basically what an OG Lisa was supposed to be. An outcast, a city girl on an Island full of horses who enjoys rock music (Miscreants) AND has a RED HAIR and some sort of trauma that she needs to overcome. Why would they change Lisa so much just to bring her back as an entirely new person???? Also if Miscreants can be popular amongst the Jorvik horse community, how exactly Lisa felt out of place? They always say one thing and then do the exact opposite and I'm so over it :')
My reaction when I saw this was "If this is Sabine, make it Jessica, if it's Jessica... uhhh... good job, now make her younger." The files label her as Sabine is my understanding. Okay, my POV is an author/dev editor. To me this is all coming off as the character design team is not talking to any of the writers even when they had writers and we've got game masters who are adding in things not for PLOT reasons but b/c "I want them to be this way" reasons. So, there is literally no justification for these things earlier in the STORY and they come out of left field. Which when you're writing a long term story is bad. Now, Character/Fashion design is about making sure everyone tells a story through their colors, shapes, and silhouettes and being ABLE to tell them apart at a glance. That's why the OLD characters work and the new characters (who aren't following the old lore to boot) don't. (And you're right, instead of colorism, they should be using Nihili/Elise and new NPCs like Rhiannon and Tierra in the Wildwoods etc to diversify their game.) Unfortunately, with Sabine here and no other dark riders, we can't even TELL if she's going to stand apart from the group. I mean, now what happens to Jessica? What about Katya? Where is Elise? Why is everyone looking like a version of Darko (oh god, they have to redo Darko too.) Why is the rock band vibe now EVIL? Sigh. I could go on. Great video!
If Star Stable was a Television show I feel as if I would've stopped watching after they updated the soul riders only because at least for me that was the tipping point where everything about the main story started to change.
I’m kinda annoyed… This is really sad that SSO don’t know their own characters. That character looks amazing, that’s not the problem. The problem is that’s not Sabine. That motor cycle helmet should’ve gone to Lisa. I know they’re trying to change things a bit but this is a bit much. What happened to Sabine?! I need that cloak back. They need to stick to the original story. That’s the story that allowed SSO to be created. I don’t understand why they’re changing things and I don’t like it. I’m not one of those players who want everything to be like old SSO, I want SSO to improve. Just make Sabine, Sabine. I’m just going to hope that for some reason this isn’t Sabine.
I perfectly agree with you, WHY do they change their character like that ? I personnally love the model of Sabine which shows how the game is improving ,BUT I don't like the *way* she looks. She looks way more like Jessica (If I remember well, she doesn't like horses as much ? I think Jessica look more like she can be a person who rides a motorbike). I have a feeling that they change the main characters and there enemies to look "good" and "bad". They act as if you playing a horse game expect the heros to be horse lovers there whole life, know how to ride perfectly and look soft and young. When villain characters have to stand out by being "from different world" aka not fitting the scenerio. Sabine and Lisa were just switched. Sabine was an equestrian and Lisa was a city girl that, as you said, was standing out a lot witch made her looks more "villainy". SSO changed that and instead of Lisa Sabine now looks like a women with dark past and bad intentions rather then a fellow equestrian. It feels wrong, why bad characters always have to look bad, there's a saying "don't judge a book by its cover" yet sso want us to be able to say "oh its must be a bad person" just by looking at them while showing that friendship and love is the way to end conflicts
Now if it was.... like you said, the fifth Dark general (Nihili? ... Elise was a better name for them imo but I digress) I wouldn't be so put off by it. I also like theorizing in the game and am actually relieved someone else sees how spun out of control the story has become. It's a far cry from what the story was initially. The design is a promising sneak peek for what our player characters could be (I mean with muscles like those I'd at least be able to believe we had some presence in the story 🙄) but replacing already established important characters' trademarks looks does WAY more harm than good. Dare I say I don't even want to continue holding on to see how this ends. At this point I'm rooting for Garnok to just have its way with the world. On a final note I saw your remake of Lisa's revamp and it suited her SO much better. I wish that was the route they took.
Besides...SSO started advertising starshine legacy a while ago on their ig....but why? There is no point in new players playing these old games which lore and characters don't fit "new" SSO. It's so confusing.
SSO is making things too complicated for no reason, before updating the graphics and characters models they should have PLANNED THE STORY FROM THE BEGGINING TO END, it would be 100% fine to make Sabine a muscular biker and Lisa a country girl if they had explanations for these changes, any explanation would do, they grew up, or just say that this universe is INSPIRED by Starshine Legacy but is a completely different universe and has nothing to do with the SL, just... anything. But no, they make these changes and they don't explain and they don't change the story to fit these changes, it all just seems forced and unnecessary 🤦♀️
Its easy to explain to be honest its kinda weird to see how many people don’t see it especially with sabine. They originally described sabine as muscular but it wasn’t visible with old graphics so they made it more seen with new ones. Along with the fact that she used to just be seen as a equestrian in sso she has more of a role in the dark side which could have caused her a change. With lisa she could have grown up or just after things in pandoria she had bad memories associated with the style because of being in that style when she went so she changed. This ones more grasping at it tho.
I read an article that said that they have a "bible" with the whole story plot in their office, so they do know how the story will end. But I also heard that they fired a person who did some of the story quests, and as we all know now, they don't have a story quest team, so of course there will be discrepancies. And we see where their priorities are, not having a team that takes care of story quests (which are actually the main point of the game) but having a horse team that delivers horses (aka money) on a regular basis
I grew up with the original Star Stable and Starshine Legacy games. I got them from the Pollux book club and they were my LIFE around 2007-2009. I have so many fond memories of playing them and when I discovered the online game in 2014 it felt like coming home. The amount of nostalgia and comfort I felt when I opened the game and just listened to the familiar music and sounds of seagulls and horses was great. I am horrible with change, and when the game started changing I was not a fan. I have to admit the environmental changes are absolutely gorgeous, but I think they did our soul riders dirty. For sure. I thought they were joking when they said this was the new Sabine- Even other NPC updates and remodels look like their former selves, just improved. This looks nothing like Sabine, and while I don’t want it to be exactly the same with new textures and stuff, I’d expect something more recognizable. Just look at the Soul Riders! Sure, they lost some of their original features, but you can still clearly tell it’s them. I’d also like to clarify that I don’t have anything wrong with the new model, I just feel like it’s out of place for Sabine, but I hope that in time, I’ll adjust to this new remodel.
this is so strange because im so used to companies using capitalizing on their fans nostalgia to the extent that there's no originality, and SSO is doing the total opposite which is...strange. another thing i noticed with the redesigns is that they don't have those qualities that main characters have that make them unique (most notably lisa's hair), instead its like they're demoting them to side characters (with typically duller colors, more typical appearances.) this might have made sense if the story was more centered on the player, but its not. the soul riders ARE the main characters, so i don't understand why they would try to make them stand out less. to be honest, im not even an old player so i wasn't bothered by the nostalgia thing, but the thing that really annoys me is Lisa's hair...what was the point? even Alex's attire is less iconic, just a flannel shirt and dulled out colors. the one other thing that bothered me was Linda...i know we can't compare these to the OGs because they're completely different characters, but...i just hate the new Linda. so. much. its like they said 'okay, we need relatable characters, and this know it all-Mary use-Hermione type isn't relatable' but i just recently played Starshine Legacy and she's not at all like that!!! maybe that's how they portrayed her in the early days of SSO, but in SL i honestly found her character the most compelling. she's the one who everyone thinks of as flawless, and she struggles to juggle it all, but does everything anyway because of her anxiety of disappointing others, and it was perfectly translated in her need to save everyone in her quest. and now her personality is...fanfic writer? thanks SSO, really relatable.
I was thinking that it may be Jessica, I mean, Sabine has curly hair and Jessica has long straight hair and the clothing looks more like Jessica than Sabine tbh.. I dont't think they would just get rid of Sabine's red hood and red riding jacket because they are iconic lol. Also, I don't remember ever seeing Jessica in a riding outfit or wearing a helmet, even while riding, unlike Sabine who is an equestrian and rides even when she's not on some dark rider mission so yeah And all this is unless it's been confirmed by sso that it's Sabine lolol
Hold up... They don't have a dedicated quest team!? WHAT!? Maybe they should hire old fans to work for them as a quest team, and to help them write characters, because apparently they're terrible at it. I honestly love the books. I haven't played the old games, so I don't really know the old story. I really loved the idea of four girls with a special bond to their horses, saving the world together, and sso where you get to join them is an awesome concept. But you need to get the story moving and you need the characters to be relatable and consistent. The SSO team could really do with an upgrade...
First I would like to say that Sabine's body type is a perfect one that they can make us choose from when it comes to our characters, still looking like a teen but someone with wider shoulders like her and a more flat chest. Secondly, I'm not an old fan but I still don't like the new soul riders or Sabine. It's one thing to update them, making them fit more into the games style but changing almost everything about them is wrong. I liked Lisa the way he was, short pixy cut hair, alt girl from the city who likes rock and horses. This was a character that I could see myself look up to if I was younger because she was cool and different from other girls. New Lisa isn't someone I would see myself look up to because she isn't special anymore, I liked her old look because she was so different and that was so cool. The way they changed Ann wasn't something I liked either, from what I have heard and seen. she was a girl who was very into fashion but also a girl who stood up for her friends and loved dressage. She was being the person who represented girls who liked fashion and horses which is nothing wrong with. She seemed a bit like a snob in the beginning but she actually was a sweet girl and the way all of the four girls was different from each other but still became best friends is what makes it even better. Now they don't even have that feeling anymore. Aslo, the way that they did Sabine like she would be way older, not really an equestrian and looks like a motorcykel girl doesn't fit the game anymore. They should have sticked to the original characters and just given them a glow up to fit the new look of the game, not change them into new character.
Weeell… SSE has also laid off the 6 people that were in charge of story quests(amongst other things), so whoever took their place had to learn the lore all over again… or they didn’t.
Please, send this message to SSO if you haven't already! The best we can do now is sadly to quit play SSO until they step up their game, literally. They clearly don't care about us at all. They don't even care about the game, the characters or anything. All they want is our money!
Thank you so much for making this video, I agree on every point you made. And yes, finally someone said it: they are only making these changes to annoy old fans. There's just no other explanation for this mess. They want to break free of SSL so much that they would even throw out US, who were with them since the very beginning. The way they are turning away so radically from Starshine, and how they are treating the source material is outright disrespectful to the old canon. It's kind of ironic too: they want SSO to be its own thing, yet they still rely on SSL's base idea. But for what reason after all of this? If they wanted to be different so badly, then why didn't they just make whole new characters and a whole new story, why are they literally scribbling on existing stuff? It's like they are turning into their own bad parody at this point. Like a bad fanfic where everyone is OOC, even inside the writer's head. It's just bad. I don't like it.
What makes it more annoying is that now new players think that this is Sabine. They don’t and never will know red show jacket, equestrian, bratty, the most iconic Sabine. They will only know what has been fed to them and is meant to lure them into the game. The game that they will eventually discover doesn’t care even the slightest about them…but only the income.
I love the Idea of A character looking like Sabine’s new look, but I don’t want Sabine to look like that :/ It just doesn’t fit, sabine looks different. We know now that sso has the skills to make the game look better and more realistic, so we know they can use Sabine’s old look! They can take Sabine’s old look and make it better from that, so honestly that is what they should do. I get why the new players don’t understand why we are so upset about the quests, storylines and new characters. I even made a new user just to feel the joy of running around and doing quests, and that was really fun. But when I play on my main user i don’t feel that joy anymore, I have no more quests to do, stars to find or reputation left. It makes me feel sad, the place I have called my home for 8 years just little by little fading away.. I hope they get their act together and find workers that can start focusing on the storyline again.
I feel that Star Stable is just straying away from all the information we all know and love about the original game, which stems from the Starshine Legacy games. It really is unfortunate to not even be able to recognise Sabine as I knew her, which was the posh equestrian stereotype. Hopefully, the team doesn't completely do a 180 with Jessica or Katja.
Tbh the design isn't bad but imo it fits Jessica more than Sabine, Jessica wore leather and didn't rlly like horses in SSL 3 so it would make more sense for her to be the "motorcycle girl". And I agree with your points, there are so many characters in SSO (like most of the NPCs) that they can flesh out, give interesting backstories and uptade yet they choose to ruin the characters that already have their lore. Look how they made Maya into more interesting character from just an stable girl NPC, that was such a great thing! do something similiar SSO!

I honestly genuinely liked Sabine's new look. I like the fact that there's a woman with more masculine features. As a woman who also doesn't usually shave her arms, I really deeply appreciate the fact she's got arm hair. My issue with all of these changes is that it's very clear they've got absolutely no idea of what their story is, or the message they want to send out. That is shown by the nonsensical changes in the story that has ALWAYS been there (to me the most annoying is the fact that now everyone has the potential to be Aideen when that has NEVER been what the game is about) and the tone changes in quests - in one quest, the writing may be serious and magical, and then in other quests it's very child like and very obviously meant for young kids. I even remember someone in the team mentioning they have trouble knowing what the story is, I believe it was in the Soul Rider podcast. It's ridiculous at this point, that us players know the story and characters in and out and they don't, at all.
I hate the new Sabine, everything about her. Her horse, her clothes (every piece of it), and her model: it looks like someone from Tiger King. She looks like someone in her mid 40's, and not the Sabine we know and love.
The whole being consistent thing is even worse when you're starting the game and doing the quest not knowing od they're new or old, because they're not changed and some refer to the old canon while some are changed (I think I remember that when I was doing some quests with Alex she said something about "the old" Lisa) It's also weird because they're changing the existing quests that don't need it, like they removed the quests with Mary and Lance and they're already engaged
As a 'new' player I wish I'd gotten to see the old Lisa and the gang. Why? Because they sound better. I do really like Lisa now (she's my favourite actually) but old Lisa sounds so much more exciting. Same goes for all the other main characters. What's even worse is that I'll never get to see the old Sabine, just the new one. It doesn't make sense at all why they changed them. Also continuing your point about the pandorian Lisa... when I saw her I was really confused. I knew what the old and the new looks like, so why is there canonically **both** in SSO? As a city girl myself who loves horses and has short hair it upsets me that I'll never meet old Lisa. So much for representation.
I feel like controversy is going to explode over the new look in other ways apart from her appearance being completely different from the original Sabine character. Sabine is depicted as one of the antagonists in the old games and her modified look in SSO makes her seem as if she is still one of the types of antagonists the main character will face. What people could get upset about is the fact that Sabine's new character is the only masculine-looking character and she also appears to be an antagonist. I do not think SSO meant to make things appear this way, but Sabine's new character set up as an antagonist and the only masculine character that is a female creates an unintentional message that masculinity is a bad trait for females to have. Since this game is geared toward young females then should one of their primary goals be to welcome young girls of all body types? Not saying SSO did this intentionally but did anyone on the team realize that this could be a bad idea or send the wrong message? They should have kept her closer to her original design to avoid this or created another female character with masculine traits that will aid the protagonist in the story.
I’ve been playing since like 2013... I honestly don’t care what they do with the lore anymore bc I’ve given up hope with the SSO team, all I want is for our character to continue being a reincarnation of aideen, that’s all I want to be happy.
Me and my friend just watched this together we totally agree and I only started playing 2-3 years ago and my friends been playing for 5-6 and your right it really confused me it dosen't feel the same anymore, and my friend is a character maker and she said " you can slightly change a look or personallity, but if you comepletely change it, whats the point of keepig it in the fisrt place if it messes everything in the lore up."
The baroness racetrack is still the same!! haha needed to make a joke there 😆 When you think about it barely anything is still the same. I suppose they just wanted to give everything a new form. I'm glad I'm an older player, the quest with Lisa getting freed you mentioned for example is much less epic now. I saw it in a video, the dialogue and the way the quest went changed, didn't feel half as epic. I remember it was such an epic and cool quest before, precious old sso memories. I get your frustrations, I'm not even a theorist, but I remember there was also some fault in the story that had to do with the Embermane quest, something being cannon or not, not sure what it was exactly but it was annoying. Sso didn't really answer questions about it either.
I totaly agree! I want a braty and sassy girly girl that rides a strong horse (it also triggers me that they used the friesian model for her horse) and not a gym girl that drives a motorcycle
I decided about a year ago that I wouldn't download SSO on my new PC until SSO got their story shit together bcs that's the reason I play their game, well... it's been about a year... and to see them change an iconic villain such as Sabine... like that... to someone else... made me want to delete my account, and only play the starshien legacy games bcs that story is fire :')
This vid was spot on! I have been around for a long time, I started playing at the LAUNCH of Starshine Legacy. The SSO team together with their non-existent quest team are ruining a childhood memory for me. I loved the original story and they just *bleH* it.
First time visiting your Channel and I agree with everything you said. Especially Lisa annoys me. I wished they kept her punk rock style and her awesome haire. Now she is just a very bland character that is like everybody -good girl- else, and I hate her new hairstyle. ...I guess she could have turned in to more country music after the year's gone by, but not change her characters personality to those big differences that she has now. I mean! It is not that hard for the SSO employees to get a background check! And it is not a big amount of material to read or play through either! It's not like it's the world of Tolkien, and the lord of the ring, where there are thousands of pages with background stuff to go through. They could have made a Star Stable Character background researching on only a few days.
I revisited this video over half a year later, read what you had to say about Anne and Linda and I thank you so much for it. I was never much of a fashionista, I openly went against such hobbies as a kid and teenager, fashionista was my least favorite character type in girls' media (then Rarity from MLP happened). But Anne... her episode was the only one I could find and play as a kid. What started off as a typical girls' game resulted in a bigger adventure, and Anne did not complain about broken nails, she wasn't scared, she faced challenges head-on, she was not to be messed with, she refused to just sit down and let others do everything for her, all while appreciating and accepting help from her friends. I was never a girly girl, but Anne, much like Elle Woods or Rarity, showed us that there was nothing wrong with being girly, being into fashion and looking good, that it didn't make you less capable, that it wasn't stupid. Maybe I wasn't anything like them, but I liked and respected them. Reducing Anne, miss "Okay I will go to the dark woods full of bandits to look for your batteries now that I've crossed Pandoria to find my horse", to her love for fashion is a disservice. I feel like Linda suffered the least, but I think she was a lot more human in the original games too. Overall I feel like characters were reduced to one particular trait, and they were fairly simple characters from a kids' game. Punkish and somewhat awkward but friendly and determined Lisa became this girl next door who's just nice, Anne is straight up aggressive and while that could be understandable, her poor choices are rewarded, Linda is an encyclopedia, something she spoke out against ("Just because I'm ambitious and reliable they think I can do anything" or something along those lines), and brave and mischievous but responsible Alex is now all about acting now and thinking later, lightning goes brrrrrrr. This is unfortunate.
I personally love the current Soul Riders but I do agree with you regarding the changes being unnecessary. There really wasn’t any reason to change things like Alex’s eye color or basically all of Lisa. I think you’re right, the SSE doesn’t know their own characters. Let’s just hope they figure it out and don’t forget it going forward. It was nice though to see Alex and Herman chatting about the old days, like Alex working on the machinery at Jorvik Stables. And during the saving Anne quests they did make a few references to Starshine Legacy. Perhaps there’s hope yet that they might get their act together. SSE needs to create a dedicated quest team and they need to sit down and establish what all is canon and then make changes to SSO to bring it back in line with that lore.
I am not really fond of the new version, the model looks good but it just is not Sabine (she just looks like an adult in her 30s, she reminds me of Sigry Varanger but with some different aspects at this point), I agree wholeheartedly with your points and am just so sad that they are slowing down and changing the story (with updating original characters and having no dedicated quest team, it seems really obvious to me that the story can't continue the way it used to be (and go further actively) if they don't have no one to progress it). I feel like updating the character's personalities is a downgrade, the soul and dark riders with their original form in Jorvik right now are supposed to look like teenage girls, and making them look like adults and changing big parts of their appearance, personality and history makes the story more absurd and it doesn't really make sense anymore in a bigger contrast. It just shows, along with many other broken promises and poor changes in these past months and years, that they don't really have all lines together and they don't care for their older player base who have been a part of the game and it's franchise for years.

Im constantly getting disappointed, I haven't been logging on for years but I keep my eye out for updates, hoping that MAYBE one day they'll make the update that can make me fall in love with this game again. In my opinion at this point it feels like Star Stable is embarrassed of their past and they want to hide it as effectively as possible, because "Oh look we have these new fancy characters! Oh the old ones? We don't know them lol" (which is most likely not true, but that's how it feels for me at least.) They're supposed to be the same character but we still look at them as separate characters in most cases, which is a big enough red flag that something is wrong with the "redesign". (There wouldn't be a problem if the characters would've been blank and undeveloped but this is not the case) The old sso playerbase is bleeding and it's genuinely sad to see pff. The funny thing is that if the newer players finish the game and find themselves with doing nothing, they'll get bored. If they get bored, there's a chance that they'll be starved for more content, they'll start digging and they'll find out about the other games, comics and stuff then quickly realize everything (This could either make the old media loved or hated,, depends on the person 😔)
It's understandable that they improve, it's good and I'm glad that we can see the game grow, but in the way that they're growing isn't fully right, changing everything that we knew isn't the best idea. I miss the old days where horses were so special once half a year or 3 months, or getting quest was some common then getting horses Improving the game? Yes! Losing all it's SSO vibes? NO
The canon has changed a huge amount, and I'm not even hugely familiar with all the old stuff. Whilst the horses have improved dramatically, the base story has been all over the place. I couldn't even say what is canon anymore and what isn't because so many things I experienced story wise is different to someone else from a different year. While the story has been inconsistent the other issue is the base game play, the mechanics haven't changed and its really holding the game back. I recommend checking out a video series from GinnyO and it hits on several of the points you mentioned. I found it very interesting. We want the best for this game, I really hope it moves forward in the right direction.
I'm an Starshine Legacy player so I came with connection to character's pre-installed. I am also a big fan of buff women, so on the paper? Hell yeah. Improvement of 10 stars, we have to stan. But Sabine was always this upper-class aristocrat bloodline bully to me. The rich kid. Making her into a apparently hard-working, scarred woman of color... That's not working for me too. Also, Khaan's model was so cool and unique. Now it's just another horse. They gave all his buff to Sabine,,

I think SSO saw an opportunity to reinvent the original characters, and ran with it. Personally, I like the new looks of the main characters, however, I definitely have some questions.
I totally agree with everything you've said in the video. I've been playing Star Stable for 8 years, before that I also played other games of "Jorvik franchise" as a child and I must admit, I was hardly disappointed with all the changes SSO's done when it comes to their characters :/ Starting from Soul Riders, I was completely shocked when I saw the updated designs for the first time. Don't get me wrong, I loved them, I actually like the way they look like but... they just don't look like their original selves at all. The first thing that caught my attention was the change of color palette for Alex, which you've already mentioned (especially hair color), but she's always been my favorite character so that was predictable for me to notice it first XD BUT THEN Then I looked at the rest of the characters and I was like ,,is that country-looking girl supposed to be Lisa?". Seriously, I couldn't believe my eyes, I would never guess it was her if nobody told me :') I mean, come on, she was basically the main character of the original games, the whole freakin franchise, and they literally decided to make her look and behave like a completely new person. I also agree with your points about the rest of the Soul Riders, some of them just got totally different vibe, especially Linda I guess. And now the same thing happened to Sabine, I love her model, it really shows the improvement SSO's done so far, but I would never tell this woman was supposed to be Sabine. Honestly, I would rather see Lisa as a motorcycle girl, it would at least match her original personality.
As a writer Star Stable is a complicated case. They are a constant work in progress. Changing characters, combining them, or scrapping them is encouraged practice. I do it, but no one is attached to my characters. In Star Stable's case, they don't have the freedom to evolve. This game is like buying an unfinished book.

I personally don't mind the model either, it's very detailed, and I think the face does look similar to old Sabine, with the jawline and eyeshape, even the lips, but the hair and eyecolor could not be more wrong, because no matter how we look at it, those things were iconic about her. Same with her clothing, now she looks like this biker chick who happens to join the Dark Riders. I don't mind that they made her muscular, because there's a slight chance they meant her to look like that is SL, but her blueish/greenish eyes, short curly hair and clothing style in my opinion isn't something that should've been changed. Also they could've easily just made this model into Jessica instead, they have the same type of horse in SL and Jessica has long black hair by default, and in the SL games she's wearing this black jumpsuit type of clothing, which certainly looks more similar to this than Sabines old clothes.
I don't think i could have said this better than you, i agree with all of your opinions about this. As someone who has played for many years now, and fell in love with the story of Jorvik because of Starshine Legacy, i feel so disappointed in the way that the story is progressing. Also, i love rock music, and seeing Lisa change from a cool rock chick to a country girl has been so devastating.
This is why I think that It’s not Sabine at all. I think it’s Nihilli (Idk how her name is spelled). I mean, It really makes sense. If you think about it, we don’t have a clear description of Nihilli. While the other two we have a more clear description. I really don’t know. That’s just what I think. It sucks that SSO can’t even create the characters right anymore. I get that things will change over the years, but things have started to change WAY too much.
For something as big as quests in sso, it makes no sense that they don’t have a designated team for them. The new employees seem to be messing everything up and switching it around
In my opinion, the updated Sabine would be a great NEW and COMPLETLY SEPARATE character. The model is okay, maybe a bit Fortnite-ish(?), but I like it. The only problem is how they changed their characters and storyline. That is NOT okay.
Girl. You are so right. First I thought it would be diversity and inclusion like Sabine and Jessica both got dark skin and Lisa is also hinted to have hispanic origins (lot of spanish in convos), but where does that lead us? With all of the good characters being white and 2/3 of the baddies being black. I don’t think any company with conscious PR and marketing team would have wanted that 😂 so it is not even about inclusivity and diversity either. Then what? It is completely showing this whole operation is just money grabbing and while they would be nowhere without us oldies playing for nostalgia they still don’t care about us. Literally all of the stories we got in sso are so similar yet so inferior to what I wrote as 8 yo for fanfiction. They created nothing my child mind didn’t and they also did it quite badly. I wish they would at least hire competent writers if they changed completely all of the characters (such a JKR move to do). The whole point of Sabine versus Lisa was that Sabine is a rider and Lisa is not in the beginning and yet she got to compete her. Jessica vs Anne was about they are both very good looking and aspire to be models. I really appreciate Katja more or less remained close to her roots (tho she was the white dark rider not the grey one, she did a reverse Gandalf I guess 😂) And Mr Sands… so if he is a human, how did he recover from the… you know the Sands he was at the end of SL4? (I know… a whole swarm of SS games happened with Sands looking intact but…) And again my biggest pet peave about Lisa it is redhead erasure again. With the graphic novels as well we can see she inherited her redhair from her mom. So she is a natural redhead with green eyes. And yet again they make her a dark skinned brown eyes and hair dyed to purple-red. Why tf companies change the old characters? Why don’t they make new ones? Especially in online videogames.
I'm so glad I found this video, I know I'm late to the party but after the Sabine update I just needed a break... 😔😔 You put words on so many of my frustrations with these character updates. I too grew up with the Starshine Legacy games but all the friends I used to play with has long since moved on. So when these uppdates are made I have no one to vent with and this is just my roundabout way to say that these videos mean a lot 🙏 But I do wonder how the SSO team was thinking when the ONLY one of the dark riders who (until now) has been a pronounced equestrian became a biker... 🤔 The way she looks now I kinda want her to be a completely new character. I see her as a angsty & angry introvert who during their childhood got "adopted" by a horse loving extrovert. After some initial fear "biker girl" fell in love with horses because of how much they can ground you, the lack of judgement, freedom of riding in the woods etc. Then at some point the friend dies (maybe vehicle hit her and her horse 🤫). "Biker girl" who never could afford her own horse sells her motorcycle to take over the friends horse (horse is now fearful of most humans and cannot be sold?). Our charactder bumps into "biker girl" when dealing with GED and she decides to tag along to make sure we don't die when trying to sabotage for them 😂 From that day onward we have an annoyed mom friend who keeps an eye on us. Also a side quest should be meeting Maya who decides that "biker girl" needs more friends and drags her along to a picnic (our character, Maya, Alex and "biker girl"). After that Maya lets her keep the horse on Dew Farm where it's nice and calm so it can learn to trust again 😌💕 Because "biker girl" totally looks like someone who will look on with annoyance as our character tries to pull apart GED equipment. But when seeing Mr. Kendal comming she shoves us out of the way saying "I'll do it, you go distract him." but it's not because she cares *cough coough* 😏😏 She will claim to simply not being in a mood to see us getting thrown into jail for desteuction of property, tresspassing etc 😂
in the older games i absolutely loved Sabine, and now she isnt Sabine anymore. thats very disappointing to see my favorite character just change like that :,) also, i really liked rockstar Lisa in Star Academy and i dont like country girl lisa D:
Sabine's eye color is described in the 1st book, they're said to be deep black. Khaan is also said to have dull, black like coal eyes and big scars on his body (pages: 47, 56,57,58)
I think her eyes being black was just a thing that happened momentarily when she was acting all animal-like, cause it was something that startled the soul riders 🤔
The interesting thing I find with myself when it came to updating the soul riders is at first, I realised how different they were from their original selves and I didn’t like it. After a while I accepted to the new adaption of the soul riders but you always have the lingering feeling that they aren’t the same (because they aren’t). But if the SSO doesn’t know their characters, they should ask the community for help! The people who have played the game(s) because we have got to experience the characters through the story line. You see so many SSO content creators make their own adaptions of how characters and horses would look when updated, and other members of the community love their adaptions! Even if the community helped to recreate the characters, it’s not that hard to stick to their original “look”.
Although I find it kinda annoying, I can let it slide that they change the outwards of a character for representation etc. But the lore? They dont even know the lore to their own game. The lore is the core of the game, and new races and and horses are just a fun bonus. Their is no line between lore and canoon anymore, cause they decide to change it every other week. The fanbase knows more about the game than the people who are creating the game.
im with you! i was super confused myself and very annoyed, i feel so disconnected with sso. heck, its not even just the characters! when i even seen the steves farm update.. wow.. just wow.. i realized how disconnected i felt right then and there. steves farm was such a cool old meet up place for friends and to see everyone hanging out.. but now.. its so complex, it doesn't even look the same.. i understand sso wants to update things. but just the generic steryotypical RED barn.. they could've kept the placement the same and the colors the same and just added little extra things to make the place more updated looking. like little trees, flowers. that goes for all the other places that was majorly changed too. soon, this game will be nothing as it used to be. they need to start caring about their players ESPECIALLY. the older dedicated players who kept this game alive for so long. its so saddening on what this company as a whole as become.
I’ve played the game since 2011, kinda stopped when they ”updated” the soul riders, they should change the name of the game at this point, this game isn’t Star Stable anymore Before the release of Star Stable Online, I played the offline versions on CD, and all the games in the Star Shine series.. and Star Stable Online used to be a game worthy the name Star Stable but now it’s just another random horse game. If they did like Blizzard did with wow, and created a ”Star Stable Online Classic”, I’d jump into that game in a second.
I sawe some of the spoiler pictures without context, thought this was a new character they were adding to Wildwoods (like a badass protector type keeping people out) and never in a million years would've guessed it was Sabine! The model itself looks amazing but she doesn't scream Sabine to me
YESSS! I’m so glad you included the Lisa in Pandoria text and hopefully the original outline of the True Starshine outlined in dust. Plus even now as I’m going through the main story quest they have not updated Sabine in the darkcore cut scenes! This is just so weird for me being a new player but loving the old content. It’s giving me a whole bunch of mixed signals and it’s making me really sad…
I've been waiting for this video since I saw your comment under the spoiler post (I was the one who replied that I knew you wouldn't like it haha). And I agree a hundred percent. My first reaction was "WOW. Wait, what?!" The new Sabine looks STUNNING, she's gorgeous and so well made, like she escaped from another game to SSO. And I really hope that our characters are going to look like her too. But she. Isn't. Sabine. AT ALL (Plus she looks like she's already in her 30s). Imagine her at the beginning of the story line, standing at Silverglade Stables because she wants to train with Khaan there. And then what the heck is up with this motorcycle helmet?!? I wonder if the other dark riders will have one too. But WHY. They're the dark RIDERS, not the dark BIKERS. I hope SSO has an excuse for this. By the way "other dark riders": I'm really concerned that only Sabine will make an appearance. She's the only one in the files and yes, maybe they will upload the rest later on, but she's also the only one who was teased in that one Insta post...
Despite being someone that absolutely adores the new Sabine i just have to agree with you. I can understand the route they wanted to take to make her more of a intimidating general and it is honestly a good character idea in itself but the problem is that they made her a completely new character then what she originally was and as someone who loves character creation and development i can say that it wouldn’t have been very hard to make the new Sabine fit that intimidating biker/general archetype while still letting her have her original love for horses that shaped her personality and actions in the original games. Having the redesigned Sabine still noticeably (In story and design) be an equestrian and still have her original looks like her curly hair while adding these more intimidating general and biker themes to her character could have been a cool rewrite of the original Sabine that doesn't completely butcher who she is. I have no clue if I’m making sense but essentially the problem that i have with the redesign is that instead of mixing these new themes and ideas that they wanted into her original look and story they decided to plaster it on top of her old character and call it day with little to no effort. Like come on, i know that sso (with how successful the game is) should have the means of hiring character designers and writers who know what they’re doing and know how to execute good character redesign and rewrite without butchering the original concept. Also i have to say that the new design and character of Sabine isn’t bad whatsoever, i honestly feel like if she was a separate character from og Sabine she would’ve been beloved by the community but since shes essentially just a butchered rewrite all that interesting character design and story put into the new design is just severely overshadowed. Essentially what I’m trying to say trough this long rant is that sso clearly doesn't actually understand what the term rewrite means because if they did they would’ve either kept Sabine as she was with a slight glowup or done the example that i just gave, keeping the old Sabine but mixing in these new aesthetics into her character in a way that makes sense and keeps her a believable rewrite of Sabine, instead we got a completely different character. (Anyway i just needed to get this off of my chest cus I’m very passionate about character creation as you can see…. Good video btw, ik its been two years but this discussion is still very much relevant).
As an amateur story writer, I get everything. I think cause the people who is with star stable now, some if not all wasn't the same people who made the characters and story of both Starshine Legacy & Academy. So because they weren't the original people they don't know the characters or story line. I mean like if I get half way through a story and just give it to my sister without guidelines on how I want the story to go and stick too she would be making drastic changes to both my characters and story concept. But as a story writer I get the complaints as well. Change can be good in a story, cause after all people change in real life, but it has to be changes that either makes sense or falls well into the existing storyline. I think that if sso wanted to redo their characters and story that they can but for that to happen and go well then (and in my opinon) the old characters & story shouldn't be cannon. Cause if you still keep the already existing universe and concept and want to make changes then your setting yourself up for some hard facts. Changing an already existing story is not only hard to do but there'll be not much there that you could change without stripping a character of everything that made up that character. And consistency in a story is pretty much like a story's backbone, and if there is not consistency than the story become too muddied with changes that don't add up or falls apart completely. To me SSO is trying to have it both ways. Keeping the original characters & storyline cannon while making a new one within itself and hoping it sticks. Anyway that's my takeaway and thoughts on the matter. Luv your theories and videos and hope u keep it up. All while hoping sso makes up their minds about how they want their characters and story to go.
I agree with you in many things, the details are amazing, she does look like a motorbike girl, Khaan looks perfect tho, I wanted Sabine to be that egoistic high maintenence fancy girl that wants to defeat everyone in horse competitions 😬 However... I always found old Lisa not fitting, so when she was updated I was the happiest probably xd I never felt like that rock city girl with her fear of horses fitted the soul riders, as a country girl who lost her mom and then found her soulmate, Starshine who helped her trough hard times and then became soul rider fits way better. Especially with healing as her power, I simply can't imagine a rock girl as a gentle healer...
She's beautiful, but they're going with the stereotype that people who dress in an alternative style are evil. So I suppose I'm evil because I wear black and I like doing "aggressive" makeup. Why? I'm not some country girl who gets muddy and down and dirty because I like horses, I honestly don't like to get dirty at all, so why do we need to go with that stereotype?
Yes Sabine is very detailed because she is newer, I feel like she just doesn't have the personality as she did in her old character. She looks more masculine than what she was before, isn't necessarily a bad thing but definitely different. She might just have a whole different personality then her I would say "peppy" self? When I first saw the remodel I literally told myself, "Who the heck is that, new character?" No. It was infact Sabine. A very important character in the lore of sso.

Oh boy... They just released something about all the new Dark Riders and none of them are the same. They're like completely different characters, and even though Katja is the most recognizable, I'm still not happy with the way she turned out, she's still so different.

I so agree with you on this!! They should have done something marvel studios would do. Making all kinds of side storyline quests besides the main story and making connections . A few crossovers as well. And then build all the stories up along with the main one to a big mashup later on. Perhaps sso could be building all the stories that have happend till now up. They've done these small crossovers before with the GED storyline that has an open end right now where Darko showed up. And which clearly showed a connection to the mainstory with the fight against Garnok. That story was about to be involved in the mainstory with the druids where Chill and the Keepers of aideen would meet through Herman to work together to destroy Darkcore and GED. But they just left it to disepear in the dust. The same way they made a crossover with Darko and a connection with the quest about Madisson and Nightdust to the mainstory. Now we did see mr Anwir again in the saving Anne quest but other than that they didn't do anything with Madison and Nightdust and the fact that Nightdust is a starbreed. They could have involved Madison in the mainstory later on as well after that crossover where she could be another druid in training and Nightdust by her side helping to defeat Garnok. We also could have learned more about Darkcore's nightmare institution where all kinds of dangerous monsters are kept but no they shoved all these connections to the side lines cause they don't know how to build their story. Or that quest with the Kallters? They again seemed to have started building on another side storyline about the Kallters, the Yeti and their home and creating another connection to the mainstory with the druids but they totally forgot about it. This all proves they don't know how to make a big story divided in side storylines with the mainstory where it all comes together interesting. They start but don't finish it!!

Well I see it more as a stereotype, I have heard more than once that girls whom ride horses are thought to be country girls full of mud and without manners, playing songs with guitars and such. So basically sse made Lisa into a horse riding girl stereotype. Doesn't sound empowering at all to me btw. Also I am pretty sure that there are teenage girls with spiky hair, tattoos on their arms and legs, multi coloured hair, who listen to rock n roll music and alternative pop who ride horses. I feel like everyone has the right to ride horses no matter their appearance. Also Billie Eilish is a horse rider enthusiast ( Idk if I have written her name wrong pls forgive me) and an alternative pop singer with multicoloured hair. Why can't Lisa be like Eilish? I've said it already but I don't like SSO's approach to redesigns. I understand they want to keep things fresh but the total disregard toward lore and older playerbase really makes me sad and with how little there's been happening in the game I have to say it- I kinda quit. I'm probably going to come back someday, maybe when the MC update rolls out but for now... this game has some serious issues and it can't seem to communicate well enough with its playerbase and it's not a new issue.
I agree, I think they only care about the new players. When they finish the quests and get bored with the game they will leave. But sso don’t care because they already got their money from them and the cycle always repeats. Imagine how much fun the game could be if they didn’t put all their efforts into making new horses constantly, we could get so much more but they barely make anything new and it takes ages for anything other than horses to be added. It’s sad to see what the game has turned into. It used to be such a mysterious and exciting feeling around this game but now everything is changed for the worse and be barely get quests.

As an older fan myself I agree with you 110%. When I saw this new sabine I was so disappointed. This game has really lost its spark for me, it has lost the magic and honestly its so detached from the old games that you can barely say they're related anymore. But like you said they clearly dont care about the story anymore... Its very sad how its just spiraling out of control at this point.

the reason why some people might be annoyed by criticism like Eleanors is cause they never cared about the game and the character, they only play for the horses so they could care less if Lisa change into a country girl they won't read the dialogue anyway.... which is why I think SSO is so comfortable changing everything cause most of the people don't play for the story

My gosh sso…. I loved sso because of the story. The story made me feel… whole! When I had no friends in sso the soul riders made me feel like I was part of something…. But when I finished the quests…. That went away. I’m not an old player like you, yes I have been playing for a few years, but I have kind of taken on the nostalgia from others… and the fact that sso doesn’t have a dedicated quest team… hah sso, you are loosing more players because you don’t freaking care about ANY of your old players! You only care about little girls wanting to ride horses. What about the older girls looking for a way to escape from reality…. Into a game, a world, full of magic! No, sso dosent care about girls wanting to indulge in a story that makes you feel whole. No, sso only cares about horses, money, new players, they don’t care at all about us! It makes me want to cry, and just get angry at them. I think also that sso avoids these videos… I want them to listen to their community! LIKE LOOK AT NINTENDO, THEY LITERALLY GAVE US ALL THE ANIMAL CROSSING UPDATES THAT THE NEW PLAYERS AND OLD PLAYERS WANT!!! The only part of sso that holds me on is my club, Night Feathers, and even that is crumbling, which isn’t sso’s problem…

I agree with everything you're saying I also grew up with the Starshine Legacy games and also the star stable season riders. They really have now dropped the connection between SSO and the SSL series which is so dumb because the reason SSO came to existence was because of those games. It's pretty clear right now that the current team just doesn't know the games while the first team did. I started playing the game when it was just released and they had on the website pictures of the characters from SSL... it's really sad how the game has changed its path I rarely play the game anymore because of this. I want this game to be all about horses and mysterious based on the former games and more information because at times I feel in the SSL games there are so many loose threads. I also don't like the updated soul riders either or sabine.. I don't like how they changed them to make them more diverse...they already had a canon set and it's sad they didn't stick to it.

From what I see from the comic books and the SSL Lisa's loss of her mum was not a big part of her story. What was more focused on was that she was afraid of horses and horse riding after being in an accident when she was a child. I don't mind they put focs on the loss of her mum but that was not a big part of who she used to be. Thing is Lisa was the character that had the most backstory out of all the girls. We didn't get to know the other girls as much as we did with Lisa and that makes me more confused about these girls saying they didn't know who she is. They should have built up more backstory for the other girls than her especially Linda while staying true to her character and not changed things from what it used to be
I absolutely adore the new designs, they're interesting and a breath of fresh air, but unfortunately i agree, the inconsistency is becoming really noticable. Being a 10 year player, the storyline i play is so warped nowadays :-(
I'm an older player myself and it makes me rly sad when I see that sso is actively trying to distance themselves from the ssl games and rewrite the lore. Don't get me wrong I like when they add stuff or explore it even furher... but they had a solid base. A solid base we all loved and that worked well. With Lisa I was frustrated the most, cuz I loved her persona. However I accepted her as this country girl BUT THEN sso introduced Skye from the Mistfall series and boi I went feral :D She's basically what an OG Lisa was supposed to be. An outcast, a city girl on an Island full of horses who enjoys rock music (Miscreants) AND has a RED HAIR and some sort of trauma that she needs to overcome. Why would they change Lisa so much just to bring her back as an entirely new person???? Also if Miscreants can be popular amongst the Jorvik horse community, how exactly Lisa felt out of place? They always say one thing and then do the exact opposite and I'm so over it :')
My reaction when I saw this was "If this is Sabine, make it Jessica, if it's Jessica... uhhh... good job, now make her younger." The files label her as Sabine is my understanding. Okay, my POV is an author/dev editor. To me this is all coming off as the character design team is not talking to any of the writers even when they had writers and we've got game masters who are adding in things not for PLOT reasons but b/c "I want them to be this way" reasons. So, there is literally no justification for these things earlier in the STORY and they come out of left field. Which when you're writing a long term story is bad. Now, Character/Fashion design is about making sure everyone tells a story through their colors, shapes, and silhouettes and being ABLE to tell them apart at a glance. That's why the OLD characters work and the new characters (who aren't following the old lore to boot) don't. (And you're right, instead of colorism, they should be using Nihili/Elise and new NPCs like Rhiannon and Tierra in the Wildwoods etc to diversify their game.) Unfortunately, with Sabine here and no other dark riders, we can't even TELL if she's going to stand apart from the group. I mean, now what happens to Jessica? What about Katya? Where is Elise? Why is everyone looking like a version of Darko (oh god, they have to redo Darko too.) Why is the rock band vibe now EVIL? Sigh. I could go on. Great video!
If Star Stable was a Television show I feel as if I would've stopped watching after they updated the soul riders only because at least for me that was the tipping point where everything about the main story started to change.

I’m kinda annoyed… This is really sad that SSO don’t know their own characters. That character looks amazing, that’s not the problem. The problem is that’s not Sabine. That motor cycle helmet should’ve gone to Lisa. I know they’re trying to change things a bit but this is a bit much. What happened to Sabine?! I need that cloak back. They need to stick to the original story. That’s the story that allowed SSO to be created. I don’t understand why they’re changing things and I don’t like it. I’m not one of those players who want everything to be like old SSO, I want SSO to improve. Just make Sabine, Sabine. I’m just going to hope that for some reason this isn’t Sabine.
I perfectly agree with you, WHY do they change their character like that ? I personnally love the model of Sabine which shows how the game is improving ,BUT I don't like the *way* she looks. She looks way more like Jessica (If I remember well, she doesn't like horses as much ? I think Jessica look more like she can be a person who rides a motorbike). As a "old" player, I found this a little bit sad.

I have a feeling that they change the main characters and there enemies to look "good" and "bad". They act as if you playing a horse game expect the heros to be horse lovers there whole life, know how to ride perfectly and look soft and young. When villain characters have to stand out by being "from different world" aka not fitting the scenerio. Sabine and Lisa were just switched. Sabine was an equestrian and Lisa was a city girl that, as you said, was standing out a lot witch made her looks more "villainy". SSO changed that and instead of Lisa Sabine now looks like a women with dark past and bad intentions rather then a fellow equestrian. It feels wrong, why bad characters always have to look bad, there's a saying "don't judge a book by its cover" yet sso want us to be able to say "oh its must be a bad person" just by looking at them while showing that friendship and love is the way to end conflicts
Now if it was.... like you said, the fifth Dark general (Nihili? ... Elise was a better name for them imo but I digress) I wouldn't be so put off by it. I also like theorizing in the game and am actually relieved someone else sees how spun out of control the story has become. It's a far cry from what the story was initially. The design is a promising sneak peek for what our player characters could be (I mean with muscles like those I'd at least be able to believe we had some presence in the story 🙄) but replacing already established important characters' trademarks looks does WAY more harm than good. Dare I say I don't even want to continue holding on to see how this ends. At this point I'm rooting for Garnok to just have its way with the world. On a final note I saw your remake of Lisa's revamp and it suited her SO much better. I wish that was the route they took.
Besides...SSO started advertising starshine legacy a while ago on their ig....but why? There is no point in new players playing these old games which lore and characters don't fit "new" SSO. It's so confusing.
SSO is making things too complicated for no reason, before updating the graphics and characters models they should have PLANNED THE STORY FROM THE BEGGINING TO END, it would be 100% fine to make Sabine a muscular biker and Lisa a country girl if they had explanations for these changes, any explanation would do, they grew up, or just say that this universe is INSPIRED by Starshine Legacy but is a completely different universe and has nothing to do with the SL, just... anything. But no, they make these changes and they don't explain and they don't change the story to fit these changes, it all just seems forced and unnecessary 🤦♀️
Its easy to explain to be honest its kinda weird to see how many people don’t see it especially with sabine. They originally described sabine as muscular but it wasn’t visible with old graphics so they made it more seen with new ones. Along with the fact that she used to just be seen as a equestrian in sso she has more of a role in the dark side which could have caused her a change. With lisa she could have grown up or just after things in pandoria she had bad memories associated with the style because of being in that style when she went so she changed. This ones more grasping at it tho.
I read an article that said that they have a "bible" with the whole story plot in their office, so they do know how the story will end. But I also heard that they fired a person who did some of the story quests, and as we all know now, they don't have a story quest team, so of course there will be discrepancies. And we see where their priorities are, not having a team that takes care of story quests (which are actually the main point of the game) but having a horse team that delivers horses (aka money) on a regular basis
I grew up with the original Star Stable and Starshine Legacy games. I got them from the Pollux book club and they were my LIFE around 2007-2009. I have so many fond memories of playing them and when I discovered the online game in 2014 it felt like coming home. The amount of nostalgia and comfort I felt when I opened the game and just listened to the familiar music and sounds of seagulls and horses was great.
I am horrible with change, and when the game started changing I was not a fan. I have to admit the environmental changes are absolutely gorgeous, but I think they did our soul riders dirty. For sure.

Even other NPC updates and remodels look like their former selves, just improved. This looks nothing like Sabine, and while I don’t want it to be exactly the same with new textures and stuff, I’d expect something more recognizable. Just look at the Soul Riders! Sure, they lost some of their original features, but you can still clearly tell it’s them. I’d also like to clarify that I don’t have anything wrong with the new model, I just feel like it’s out of place for Sabine, but I hope that in time, I’ll adjust to this new remodel.
this is so strange because im so used to companies using capitalizing on their fans nostalgia to the extent that there's no originality, and SSO is doing the total opposite which is...strange.
another thing i noticed with the redesigns is that they don't have those qualities that main characters have that make them unique (most notably lisa's hair), instead its like they're demoting them to side characters (with typically duller colors, more typical appearances.) this might have made sense if the story was more centered on the player, but its not. the soul riders ARE the main characters, so i don't understand why they would try to make them stand out less.
to be honest, im not even an old player so i wasn't bothered by the nostalgia thing, but the thing that really annoys me is Lisa's hair...what was the point? even Alex's attire is less iconic, just a flannel shirt and dulled out colors. the one other thing that bothered me was Linda...i know we can't compare these to the OGs because they're completely different characters, but...i just hate the new Linda. so. much. its like they said 'okay, we need relatable characters, and this know it all-Mary use-Hermione type isn't relatable' but i just recently played Starshine Legacy and she's not at all like that!!! maybe that's how they portrayed her in the early days of SSO, but in SL i honestly found her character the most compelling. she's the one who everyone thinks of as flawless, and she struggles to juggle it all, but does everything anyway because of her anxiety of disappointing others, and it was perfectly translated in her need to save everyone in her quest. and now her personality is...fanfic writer? thanks SSO, really relatable.
I was thinking that it may be Jessica, I mean, Sabine has curly hair and Jessica has long straight hair and the clothing looks more like Jessica than Sabine tbh.. I dont't think they would just get rid of Sabine's red hood and red riding jacket because they are iconic lol. Also, I don't remember ever seeing Jessica in a riding outfit or wearing a helmet, even while riding, unlike Sabine who is an equestrian and rides even when she's not on some dark rider mission so yeah

I honestly love the books. I haven't played the old games, so I don't really know the old story. I really loved the idea of four girls with a special bond to their horses, saving the world together, and sso where you get to join them is an awesome concept. But you need to get the story moving and you need the characters to be relatable and consistent.

First I would like to say that Sabine's body type is a perfect one that they can make us choose from when it comes to our characters, still looking like a teen but someone with wider shoulders like her and a more flat chest. Secondly, I'm not an old fan but I still don't like the new soul riders or Sabine. It's one thing to update them, making them fit more into the games style but changing almost everything about them is wrong. I liked Lisa the way he was, short pixy cut hair, alt girl from the city who likes rock and horses. This was a character that I could see myself look up to if I was younger because she was cool and different from other girls. New Lisa isn't someone I would see myself look up to because she isn't special anymore, I liked her old look because she was so different and that was so cool. The way they changed Ann wasn't something I liked either, from what I have heard and seen. she was a girl who was very into fashion but also a girl who stood up for her friends and loved dressage. She was being the person who represented girls who liked fashion and horses which is nothing wrong with. She seemed a bit like a snob in the beginning but she actually was a sweet girl and the way all of the four girls was different from each other but still became best friends is what makes it even better. Now they don't even have that feeling anymore. Aslo, the way that they did Sabine like she would be way older, not really an equestrian and looks like a motorcykel girl doesn't fit the game anymore. They should have sticked to the original characters and just given them a glow up to fit the new look of the game, not change them into new character.

And yes, finally someone said it: they are only making these changes to annoy old fans. There's just no other explanation for this mess. They want to break free of SSL so much that they would even throw out US, who were with them since the very beginning. The way they are turning away so radically from Starshine, and how they are treating the source material is outright disrespectful to the old canon. It's kind of ironic too: they want SSO to be its own thing, yet they still rely on SSL's base idea. But for what reason after all of this? If they wanted to be different so badly, then why didn't they just make whole new characters and a whole new story, why are they literally scribbling on existing stuff?
It's like they are turning into their own bad parody at this point. Like a bad fanfic where everyone is OOC, even inside the writer's head. It's just bad. I don't like it.
What makes it more annoying is that now new players think that this is Sabine. They don’t and never will know red show jacket, equestrian, bratty, the most iconic Sabine. They will only know what has been fed to them and is meant to lure them into the game. The game that they will eventually discover doesn’t care even the slightest about them…but only the income.
I love the Idea of A character looking like Sabine’s new look, but I don’t want Sabine to look like that :/ It just doesn’t fit, sabine looks different. We know now that sso has the skills to make the game look better and more realistic, so we know they can use Sabine’s old look! They can take Sabine’s old look and make it better from that, so honestly that is what they should do.
I get why the new players don’t understand why we are so upset about the quests, storylines and new characters. I even made a new user just to feel the joy of running around and doing quests, and that was really fun. But when I play on my main user i don’t feel that joy anymore, I have no more quests to do, stars to find or reputation left. It makes me feel sad, the place I have called my home for 8 years just little by little fading away.. I hope they get their act together and find workers that can start focusing on the storyline again.
I feel that Star Stable is just straying away from all the information we all know and love about the original game, which stems from the Starshine Legacy games. It really is unfortunate to not even be able to recognise Sabine as I knew her, which was the posh equestrian stereotype. Hopefully, the team doesn't completely do a 180 with Jessica or Katja.
Tbh the design isn't bad but imo it fits Jessica more than Sabine, Jessica wore leather and didn't rlly like horses in SSL 3 so it would make more sense for her to be the "motorcycle girl". And I agree with your points, there are so many characters in SSO (like most of the NPCs) that they can flesh out, give interesting backstories and uptade yet they choose to ruin the characters that already have their lore. Look how they made Maya into more interesting character from just an stable girl NPC, that was such a great thing! do something similiar SSO!

I honestly genuinely liked Sabine's new look. I like the fact that there's a woman with more masculine features. As a woman who also doesn't usually shave her arms, I really deeply appreciate the fact she's got arm hair.
My issue with all of these changes is that it's very clear they've got absolutely no idea of what their story is, or the message they want to send out. That is shown by the nonsensical changes in the story that has ALWAYS been there (to me the most annoying is the fact that now everyone has the potential to be Aideen when that has NEVER been what the game is about) and the tone changes in quests - in one quest, the writing may be serious and magical, and then in other quests it's very child like and very obviously meant for young kids.
I even remember someone in the team mentioning they have trouble knowing what the story is, I believe it was in the Soul Rider podcast.
It's ridiculous at this point, that us players know the story and characters in and out and they don't, at all.
I hate the new Sabine, everything about her. Her horse, her clothes (every piece of it), and her model: it looks like someone from Tiger King. She looks like someone in her mid 40's, and not the Sabine we know and love.
The whole being consistent thing is even worse when you're starting the game and doing the quest not knowing od they're new or old, because they're not changed and some refer to the old canon while some are changed (I think I remember that when I was doing some quests with Alex she said something about "the old" Lisa)
It's also weird because they're changing the existing quests that don't need it, like they removed the quests with Mary and Lance and they're already engaged
As a 'new' player I wish I'd gotten to see the old Lisa and the gang. Why? Because they sound better. I do really like Lisa now (she's my favourite actually) but old Lisa sounds so much more exciting. Same goes for all the other main characters. What's even worse is that I'll never get to see the old Sabine, just the new one. It doesn't make sense at all why they changed them.
Also continuing your point about the pandorian Lisa... when I saw her I was really confused. I knew what the old and the new looks like, so why is there canonically **both** in SSO?
As a city girl myself who loves horses and has short hair it upsets me that I'll never meet old Lisa. So much for representation.
I feel like controversy is going to explode over the new look in other ways apart from her appearance being completely different from the original Sabine character. Sabine is depicted as one of the antagonists in the old games and her modified look in SSO makes her seem as if she is still one of the types of antagonists the main character will face. What people could get upset about is the fact that Sabine's new character is the only masculine-looking character and she also appears to be an antagonist. I do not think SSO meant to make things appear this way, but Sabine's new character set up as an antagonist and the only masculine character that is a female creates an unintentional message that masculinity is a bad trait for females to have. Since this game is geared toward young females then should one of their primary goals be to welcome young girls of all body types? Not saying SSO did this intentionally but did anyone on the team realize that this could be a bad idea or send the wrong message? They should have kept her closer to her original design to avoid this or created another female character with masculine traits that will aid the protagonist in the story.

I’ve been playing since like 2013... I honestly don’t care what they do with the lore anymore bc I’ve given up hope with the SSO team, all I want is for our character to continue being a reincarnation of aideen, that’s all I want to be happy.
On the bright side, at least she’s hot.
Me and my friend just watched this together we totally agree and I only started playing 2-3 years ago and my friends been playing for 5-6 and your right it really confused me it dosen't feel the same anymore, and my friend is a character maker and she said " you can slightly change a look or personallity, but if you comepletely change it, whats the point of keepig it in the fisrt place if it messes everything in the lore up."

When you think about it barely anything is still the same. I suppose they just wanted to give everything a new form. I'm glad I'm an older player, the quest with Lisa getting freed you mentioned for example is much less epic now. I saw it in a video, the dialogue and the way the quest went changed, didn't feel half as epic. I remember it was such an epic and cool quest before, precious old sso memories. I get your frustrations, I'm not even a theorist, but I remember there was also some fault in the story that had to do with the Embermane quest, something being cannon or not, not sure what it was exactly but it was annoying. Sso didn't really answer questions about it either.

I decided about a year ago that I wouldn't download SSO on my new PC until SSO got their story shit together bcs that's the reason I play their game, well... it's been about a year... and to see them change an iconic villain such as Sabine... like that... to someone else... made me want to delete my account, and only play the starshien legacy games bcs that story is fire :')
This vid was spot on! I have been around for a long time, I started playing at the LAUNCH of Starshine Legacy. The SSO team together with their non-existent quest team are ruining a childhood memory for me. I loved the original story and they just *bleH* it.

Especially Lisa annoys me. I wished they kept her punk rock style and her awesome haire. Now she is just a very bland character that is like everybody -good girl- else, and I hate her new hairstyle. ...I guess she could have turned in to more country music after the year's gone by, but not change her characters personality to those big differences that she has now.
I mean! It is not that hard for the SSO employees to get a background check! And it is not a big amount of material to read or play through either! It's not like it's the world of Tolkien, and the lord of the ring, where there are thousands of pages with background stuff to go through. They could have made a Star Stable Character background researching on only a few days.
I agree, I’m confused on what sso is doing, I feel like sso isn’t sso anymore. The original characters are gone which is what started sso.
I revisited this video over half a year later, read what you had to say about Anne and Linda and I thank you so much for it. I was never much of a fashionista, I openly went against such hobbies as a kid and teenager, fashionista was my least favorite character type in girls' media (then Rarity from MLP happened). But Anne... her episode was the only one I could find and play as a kid. What started off as a typical girls' game resulted in a bigger adventure, and Anne did not complain about broken nails, she wasn't scared, she faced challenges head-on, she was not to be messed with, she refused to just sit down and let others do everything for her, all while appreciating and accepting help from her friends. I was never a girly girl, but Anne, much like Elle Woods or Rarity, showed us that there was nothing wrong with being girly, being into fashion and looking good, that it didn't make you less capable, that it wasn't stupid. Maybe I wasn't anything like them, but I liked and respected them.
Reducing Anne, miss "Okay I will go to the dark woods full of bandits to look for your batteries now that I've crossed Pandoria to find my horse", to her love for fashion is a disservice.
I feel like Linda suffered the least, but I think she was a lot more human in the original games too. Overall I feel like characters were reduced to one particular trait, and they were fairly simple characters from a kids' game. Punkish and somewhat awkward but friendly and determined Lisa became this girl next door who's just nice, Anne is straight up aggressive and while that could be understandable, her poor choices are rewarded, Linda is an encyclopedia, something she spoke out against ("Just because I'm ambitious and reliable they think I can do anything" or something along those lines), and brave and mischievous but responsible Alex is now all about acting now and thinking later, lightning goes brrrrrrr. This is unfortunate.
I personally love the current Soul Riders but I do agree with you regarding the changes being unnecessary. There really wasn’t any reason to change things like Alex’s eye color or basically all of Lisa. I think you’re right, the SSE doesn’t know their own characters. Let’s just hope they figure it out and don’t forget it going forward. It was nice though to see Alex and Herman chatting about the old days, like Alex working on the machinery at Jorvik Stables. And during the saving Anne quests they did make a few references to Starshine Legacy. Perhaps there’s hope yet that they might get their act together. SSE needs to create a dedicated quest team and they need to sit down and establish what all is canon and then make changes to SSO to bring it back in line with that lore.
I am not really fond of the new version, the model looks good but it just is not Sabine (she just looks like an adult in her 30s, she reminds me of Sigry Varanger but with some different aspects at this point), I agree wholeheartedly with your points and am just so sad that they are slowing down and changing the story (with updating original characters and having no dedicated quest team, it seems really obvious to me that the story can't continue the way it used to be (and go further actively) if they don't have no one to progress it). I feel like updating the character's personalities is a downgrade, the soul and dark riders with their original form in Jorvik right now are supposed to look like teenage girls, and making them look like adults and changing big parts of their appearance, personality and history makes the story more absurd and it doesn't really make sense anymore in a bigger contrast. It just shows, along with many other broken promises and poor changes in these past months and years, that they don't really have all lines together and they don't care for their older player base who have been a part of the game and it's franchise for years.

Im constantly getting disappointed, I haven't been logging on for years but I keep my eye out for updates, hoping that MAYBE one day they'll make the update that can make me fall in love with this game again. In my opinion at this point it feels like Star Stable is embarrassed of their past and they want to hide it as effectively as possible, because "Oh look we have these new fancy characters! Oh the old ones? We don't know them lol" (which is most likely not true, but that's how it feels for me at least.) They're supposed to be the same character but we still look at them as separate characters in most cases, which is a big enough red flag that something is wrong with the "redesign". (There wouldn't be a problem if the characters would've been blank and undeveloped but this is not the case) The old sso playerbase is bleeding and it's genuinely sad to see pff. The funny thing is that if the newer players finish the game and find themselves with doing nothing, they'll get bored. If they get bored, there's a chance that they'll be starved for more content, they'll start digging and they'll find out about the other games, comics and stuff then quickly realize everything (This could either make the old media loved or hated,, depends on the person 😔)
It's understandable that they improve, it's good and I'm glad that we can see the game grow,
but in the way that they're growing isn't fully right, changing everything that we knew isn't the best idea.

The canon has changed a huge amount, and I'm not even hugely familiar with all the old stuff. Whilst the horses have improved dramatically, the base story has been all over the place. I couldn't even say what is canon anymore and what isn't because so many things I experienced story wise is different to someone else from a different year. While the story has been inconsistent the other issue is the base game play, the mechanics haven't changed and its really holding the game back. I recommend checking out a video series from GinnyO and it hits on several of the points you mentioned. I found it very interesting. We want the best for this game, I really hope it moves forward in the right direction.
I'm an Starshine Legacy player so I came with connection to character's pre-installed. I am also a big fan of buff women, so on the paper? Hell yeah. Improvement of 10 stars, we have to stan.
But Sabine was always this upper-class aristocrat bloodline bully to me. The rich kid. Making her into a apparently hard-working, scarred woman of color... That's not working for me too.
Also, Khaan's model was so cool and unique. Now it's just another horse. They gave all his buff to Sabine,,

Either way, I would not be surprised if this is meant to be Sabine. I think SSO saw an opportunity to reinvent the original characters, and ran with it. Personally, I like the new looks of the main characters, however, I definitely have some questions.
I totally agree with everything you've said in the video. I've been playing Star Stable for 8 years, before that I also played other games of "Jorvik franchise" as a child and I must admit, I was hardly disappointed with all the changes SSO's done when it comes to their characters :/
Starting from Soul Riders, I was completely shocked when I saw the updated designs for the first time. Don't get me wrong, I loved them, I actually like the way they look like but... they just don't look like their original selves at all. The first thing that caught my attention was the change of color palette for Alex, which you've already mentioned (especially hair color), but she's always been my favorite character so that was predictable for me to notice it first XD

Then I looked at the rest of the characters and I was like ,,is that country-looking girl supposed to be Lisa?". Seriously, I couldn't believe my eyes, I would never guess it was her if nobody told me :') I mean, come on, she was basically the main character of the original games, the whole freakin franchise, and they literally decided to make her look and behave like a completely new person. I also agree with your points about the rest of the Soul Riders, some of them just got totally different vibe, especially Linda I guess.
And now the same thing happened to Sabine, I love her model, it really shows the improvement SSO's done so far, but I would never tell this woman was supposed to be Sabine. Honestly, I would rather see Lisa as a motorcycle girl, it would at least match her original personality.
As a writer Star Stable is a complicated case. They are a constant work in progress. Changing characters, combining them, or scrapping them is encouraged practice. I do it, but no one is attached to my characters. In Star Stable's case, they don't have the freedom to evolve. This game is like buying an unfinished book.

I personally don't mind the model either, it's very detailed, and I think the face does look similar to old Sabine, with the jawline and eyeshape, even the lips, but the hair and eyecolor could not be more wrong, because no matter how we look at it, those things were iconic about her. Same with her clothing, now she looks like this biker chick who happens to join the Dark Riders. I don't mind that they made her muscular, because there's a slight chance they meant her to look like that is SL, but her blueish/greenish eyes, short curly hair and clothing style in my opinion isn't something that should've been changed.
Also they could've easily just made this model into Jessica instead, they have the same type of horse in SL and Jessica has long black hair by default, and in the SL games she's wearing this black jumpsuit type of clothing, which certainly looks more similar to this than Sabines old clothes.
I don't think i could have said this better than you, i agree with all of your opinions about this. As someone who has played for many years now, and fell in love with the story of Jorvik because of Starshine Legacy, i feel so disappointed in the way that the story is progressing. Also, i love rock music, and seeing Lisa change from a cool rock chick to a country girl has been so devastating.
This is why I think that It’s not Sabine at all. I think it’s Nihilli (Idk how her name is spelled). I mean, It really makes sense. If you think about it, we don’t have a clear description of Nihilli. While the other two we have a more clear description. I really don’t know. That’s just what I think.

For something as big as quests in sso, it makes no sense that they don’t have a designated team for them. The new employees seem to be messing everything up and switching it around
In my opinion, the updated Sabine would be a great NEW and COMPLETLY SEPARATE character. The model is okay, maybe a bit Fortnite-ish(?), but I like it. The only problem is how they changed their characters and storyline. That is NOT okay.
Girl. You are so right. First I thought it would be diversity and inclusion like Sabine and Jessica both got dark skin and Lisa is also hinted to have hispanic origins (lot of spanish in convos), but where does that lead us? With all of the good characters being white and 2/3 of the baddies being black. I don’t think any company with conscious PR and marketing team would have wanted that 😂 so it is not even about inclusivity and diversity either. Then what? It is completely showing this whole operation is just money grabbing and while they would be nowhere without us oldies playing for nostalgia they still don’t care about us.
Literally all of the stories we got in sso are so similar yet so inferior to what I wrote as 8 yo for fanfiction. They created nothing my child mind didn’t and they also did it quite badly. I wish they would at least hire competent writers if they changed completely all of the characters (such a JKR move to do).
The whole point of Sabine versus Lisa was that Sabine is a rider and Lisa is not in the beginning and yet she got to compete her. Jessica vs Anne was about they are both very good looking and aspire to be models.
I really appreciate Katja more or less remained close to her roots (tho she was the white dark rider not the grey one, she did a reverse Gandalf I guess 😂)
And Mr Sands… so if he is a human, how did he recover from the… you know the Sands he was at the end of SL4?

And again my biggest pet peave about Lisa it is redhead erasure again. With the graphic novels as well we can see she inherited her redhair from her mom. So she is a natural redhead with green eyes. And yet again they make her a dark skinned brown eyes and hair dyed to purple-red. Why tf companies change the old characters? Why don’t they make new ones? Especially in online videogames.
I'm so glad I found this video, I know I'm late to the party but after the Sabine update I just needed a break... 😔😔 You put words on so many of my frustrations with these character updates. I too grew up with the Starshine Legacy games but all the friends I used to play with has long since moved on. So when these uppdates are made I have no one to vent with and this is just my roundabout way to say that these videos mean a lot 🙏
But I do wonder how the SSO team was thinking when the ONLY one of the dark riders who (until now) has been a pronounced equestrian became a biker... 🤔 The way she looks now I kinda want her to be a completely new character. I see her as a angsty & angry introvert who during their childhood got "adopted" by a horse loving extrovert. After some initial fear "biker girl" fell in love with horses because of how much they can ground you, the lack of judgement, freedom of riding in the woods etc. Then at some point the friend dies (maybe vehicle hit her and her horse 🤫). "Biker girl" who never could afford her own horse sells her motorcycle to take over the friends horse (horse is now fearful of most humans and cannot be sold?).
Our charactder bumps into "biker girl" when dealing with GED and she decides to tag along to make sure we don't die when trying to sabotage for them 😂 From that day onward we have an annoyed mom friend who keeps an eye on us. Also a side quest should be meeting Maya who decides that "biker girl" needs more friends and drags her along to a picnic (our character, Maya, Alex and "biker girl"). After that Maya lets her keep the horse on Dew Farm where it's nice and calm so it can learn to trust again 😌💕
Because "biker girl" totally looks like someone who will look on with annoyance as our character tries to pull apart GED equipment. But when seeing Mr. Kendal comming she shoves us out of the way saying "I'll do it, you go distract him." but it's not because she cares *cough coough* 😏😏 She will claim to simply not being in a mood to see us getting thrown into jail for desteuction of property, tresspassing etc 😂
in the older games i absolutely loved Sabine, and now she isnt Sabine anymore. thats very disappointing to see my favorite character just change like that :,)

Sabine's eye color is described in the 1st book, they're said to be deep black. Khaan is also said to have dull, black like coal eyes and big scars on his body (pages: 47, 56,57,58)
I think her eyes being black was just a thing that happened momentarily when she was acting all animal-like, cause it was something that startled the soul riders 🤔
The interesting thing I find with myself when it came to updating the soul riders is at first, I realised how different they were from their original selves and I didn’t like it. After a while I accepted to the new adaption of the soul riders but you always have the lingering feeling that they aren’t the same (because they aren’t).
But if the SSO doesn’t know their characters, they should ask the community for help! The people who have played the game(s) because we have got to experience the characters through the story line. You see so many SSO content creators make their own adaptions of how characters and horses would look when updated, and other members of the community love their adaptions! Even if the community helped to recreate the characters, it’s not that hard to stick to their original “look”.
Although I find it kinda annoying, I can let it slide that they change the outwards of a character for representation etc. But the lore? They dont even know the lore to their own game. The lore is the core of the game, and new races and and horses are just a fun bonus. Their is no line between lore and canoon anymore, cause they decide to change it every other week. The fanbase knows more about the game than the people who are creating the game.
im with you! i was super confused myself and very annoyed, i feel so disconnected with sso. heck, its not even just the characters! when i even seen the steves farm update.. wow.. just wow.. i realized how disconnected i felt right then and there. steves farm was such a cool old meet up place for friends and to see everyone hanging out.. but now.. its so complex, it doesn't even look the same.. i understand sso wants to update things. but just the generic steryotypical RED barn.. they could've kept the placement the same and the colors the same and just added little extra things to make the place more updated looking. like little trees, flowers. that goes for all the other places that was majorly changed too. soon, this game will be nothing as it used to be. they need to start caring about their players ESPECIALLY. the older dedicated players who kept this game alive for so long. its so saddening on what this company as a whole as become.

Before the release of Star Stable Online, I played the offline versions on CD, and all the games in the Star Shine series.. and Star Stable Online used to be a game worthy the name Star Stable but now it’s just another random horse game.

YESSS! I’m so glad you included the Lisa in Pandoria text and hopefully the original outline of the True Starshine outlined in dust. Plus even now as I’m going through the main story quest they have not updated Sabine in the darkcore cut scenes! This is just so weird for me being a new player but loving the old content. It’s giving me a whole bunch of mixed signals and it’s making me really sad…
I've been waiting for this video since I saw your comment under the spoiler post (I was the one who replied that I knew you wouldn't like it haha). And I agree a hundred percent. My first reaction was "WOW. Wait, what?!" The new Sabine looks STUNNING, she's gorgeous and so well made, like she escaped from another game to SSO. And I really hope that our characters are going to look like her too. But she. Isn't. Sabine. AT ALL (Plus she looks like she's already in her 30s). Imagine her at the beginning of the story line, standing at Silverglade Stables because she wants to train with Khaan there. And then what the heck is up with this motorcycle helmet?!? I wonder if the other dark riders will have one too. But WHY. They're the dark RIDERS, not the dark BIKERS. I hope SSO has an excuse for this.
By the way "other dark riders": I'm really concerned that only Sabine will make an appearance. She's the only one in the files and yes, maybe they will upload the rest later on, but she's also the only one who was teased in that one Insta post...
Despite being someone that absolutely adores the new Sabine i just have to agree with you. I can understand the route they wanted to take to make her more of a intimidating general and it is honestly a good character idea in itself but the problem is that they made her a completely new character then what she originally was and as someone who loves character creation and development i can say that it wouldn’t have been very hard to make the new Sabine fit that intimidating biker/general archetype while still letting her have her original love for horses that shaped her personality and actions in the original games. Having the redesigned Sabine still noticeably (In story and design) be an equestrian and still have her original looks like her curly hair while adding these more intimidating general and biker themes to her character could have been a cool rewrite of the original Sabine that doesn't completely butcher who she is. I have no clue if I’m making sense but essentially the problem that i have with the redesign is that instead of mixing these new themes and ideas that they wanted into her original look and story they decided to plaster it on top of her old character and call it day with little to no effort. Like come on, i know that sso (with how successful the game is) should have the means of hiring character designers and writers who know what they’re doing and know how to execute good character redesign and rewrite without butchering the original concept. Also i have to say that the new design and character of Sabine isn’t bad whatsoever, i honestly feel like if she was a separate character from og Sabine she would’ve been beloved by the community but since shes essentially just a butchered rewrite all that interesting character design and story put into the new design is just severely overshadowed. Essentially what I’m trying to say trough this long rant is that sso clearly doesn't actually understand what the term rewrite means because if they did they would’ve either kept Sabine as she was with a slight glowup or done the example that i just gave, keeping the old Sabine but mixing in these new aesthetics into her character in a way that makes sense and keeps her a believable rewrite of Sabine, instead we got a completely different character. (Anyway i just needed to get this off of my chest cus I’m very passionate about character creation as you can see…. Good video btw, ik its been two years but this discussion is still very much relevant).
As an amateur story writer, I get everything. I think cause the people who is with star stable now, some if not all wasn't the same people who made the characters and story of both Starshine Legacy & Academy. So because they weren't the original people they don't know the characters or story line. I mean like if I get half way through a story and just give it to my sister without guidelines on how I want the story to go and stick too she would be making drastic changes to both my characters and story concept. But as a story writer I get the complaints as well. Change can be good in a story, cause after all people change in real life, but it has to be changes that either makes sense or falls well into the existing storyline. I think that if sso wanted to redo their characters and story that they can but for that to happen and go well then (and in my opinon) the old characters & story shouldn't be cannon. Cause if you still keep the already existing universe and concept and want to make changes then your setting yourself up for some hard facts. Changing an already existing story is not only hard to do but there'll be not much there that you could change without stripping a character of everything that made up that character. And consistency in a story is pretty much like a story's backbone, and if there is not consistency than the story become too muddied with changes that don't add up or falls apart completely. To me SSO is trying to have it both ways. Keeping the original characters & storyline cannon while making a new one within itself and hoping it sticks. Anyway that's my takeaway and thoughts on the matter. Luv your theories and videos and hope u keep it up. All while hoping sso makes up their minds about how they want their characters and story to go.
I agree with you in many things, the details are amazing, she does look like a motorbike girl, Khaan looks perfect tho, I wanted Sabine to be that egoistic high maintenence fancy girl that wants to defeat everyone in horse competitions 😬
However... I always found old Lisa not fitting, so when she was updated I was the happiest probably xd I never felt like that rock city girl with her fear of horses fitted the soul riders, as a country girl who lost her mom and then found her soulmate, Starshine who helped her trough hard times and then became soul rider fits way better. Especially with healing as her power, I simply can't imagine a rock girl as a gentle healer...
She's beautiful, but they're going with the stereotype that people who dress in an alternative style are evil. So I suppose I'm evil because I wear black and I like doing "aggressive" makeup. Why? I'm not some country girl who gets muddy and down and dirty because I like horses, I honestly don't like to get dirty at all, so why do we need to go with that stereotype?

Yes Sabine is very detailed because she is newer, I feel like she just doesn't have the personality as she did in her old character. She looks more masculine than what she was before, isn't necessarily a bad thing but definitely different. She might just have a whole different personality then her I would say "peppy" self? When I first saw the remodel I literally told myself, "Who the heck is that, new character?" No. It was infact Sabine. A very important character in the lore of sso.
