EP. 7 - CUSTOM FUEL TANK | Radial Airplane Motor Volkswagen: HAMMER FORMED

  • On this Episode we fly into the fuel tank. An aircraft themed rectangle tank with hammer formed beads. We create a simple baffle inside and weld in the mounts for both fuel pickup and fuel sender. This was a lot of work, in order to keep the theme throughout the entire car. Something many will never take notice of, but it's every small detail that counts. Enjoy!

    Always fascinating to watch you turn raw material into the beautiful, functional pieces that start as an Imaginary picture in your mind. Not just parts anymore but custom automotive jewelry.

    I admire the way you have an idea and just go for it. You'll definately not scared of failure and use them to learn and improve. Love your work ethic and really enjoy the channel.

    Amazing combination of artistry and fabrication! The thought/calculations just in the bend/break of the sheet metal was mind blowing! Amazed by how your mind works from idea to finished product! Inspiring stuff and expertly explained! Go BENNETTS CUSTOMS! Keep moving forward!

    Tank looks amazing! Would definitely help with some baffling inside, less slosh going round corners and fuel starvation once fuel low. Look at the foam baffling if it’s too difficult to get some metal baffles welded in

    something to keep in mind for next time that you build a fuel tank for a fuel injected engine , build a surge tank so the engine doesnt starve of fuel

    The radius of your bend plus material thickness will give you your dimension lines for the flats. we used this in Aircraft sheet metal work. There is a calculation for the material used especially for 90 degree bends that will give you the whole layout picture.

    Hey Jordan. That alli -min-um! Turned out great. A nice looking tank. The baffle will help keep fuel slosh to a minimum. Q. If you made a cylinder with out a slip roll. What tools would you use. A tucking fork.? Best wishes to you and your family and friends. Tim.

      An English wheel would get it close, a sheet metal brake with soft edges and small increments could do it or maybe some muscle and an old gas bottle would do the trick!

  • @guywilson187
    @guywilson187 Před 5 měsíci +3

    This whole project looks great.
    The fuel tank will really pop in the lime green colour.
    Did you include any baffles inside to reduce fuel slosh or are they not really necessary?
    Looking ahead I'm eager to hear how this motor sounds compared to a flat 4.
    Keep up the good stuff.

    • @bennettscustomsco
      @bennettscustomsco  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yes definitely put one in and will help eliminate a fair amount of slosh!

      @bennettscustomsco  Před 5 měsíci +1

      There will be a few bungs I’ll weld in forsure! Needs a return line still, a breather, and drain

    Don't know about your Aussie gas, but would protecting the inside with sloshing coating be in order? I did it to an old Studebaker tank 9 years ago and it is still like new inside. Ethanol and water can corrode and the sloshing coating really works!

    So Canada is just North America yeah? (just havin' a go) Also, if I went to Canada or the States, I would never ever stop calling it aluminium, because every time I say it, that's 'home'.

    It's a shame to do all that nice fab work only to hide into a place that few if any will see, because as you said, a stock tank will work just as well. Realistically you could have made a dress panel to mount on the visible side of the tank and gotten the same or better look at a fraction of the time and material cost.

    Mate. If you want to call yourself an Aussie, we will have to educate you on how to pronounce that shiny metal with an atomic number of 13 correctly.😂😊😂😊
