Knight takes 11 hours for this dude to make, and 8 seconds for me to blunder.
Noob, it only takes me 3
You noobs, it takes me 1 second to blunder
@@vedran3775 teach me your ways
Noob, I premove blunders cause I play online
And here I am the noobest one trying to know what is blunder.
That detailed Knight is much better than the Knight's they use in the championship.
The other pieces are also more detailed if you look close at them.
sometimes less is more. Simple is the best
But damn look at the more intricate details for me its better
Not really, cuz you don't want a super detailed piece when their thoughts are so abstract. You want to allow players to focus on the game not the pieces.
True !!
I wish they could've given us the address of the business or the website to purchase their chess pieces
@@bugsycline3798, thank you!
@Mr H compared to other sets of the same quality, that's pretty good!
@Sunrise Boy I believe you get an additional 30% off when you order something on backorder. You should jump on it then and not wait til it’s restocked.

@Mr H I don’t think u realize what some chess stuff can go for man, that shit pricey
I love how they dramatized the rpm of the bandsaw as if it was an absurd uncommon super specialized tool lol
that made me smile too : D
"spinning at a dizzying 2,400 RPM"
Yes 2400 RPM😂😂
And also the 1,400 rpm
per MINUTE as well!
2400 and 1400 are 40 and 23 times per second.
Agreed, but handsaws and lathes and stuff are pretty rare in india

I've been to India. That was cleaned up.
@Ghost K That gives the pieces a special touch
You want to watch a documentary that is not set in the true environment?
Anuj Gupta No, that just would've been my thought if I were the factory owner and I knew a film crew was coming through. But hey, gotta make some chess pieces. Film crews and messes be damned.

Such a heart warming video. People working all day to make 1 chess piece that is sold for less than $1. It'd be great if Discovery UK could show more sweat shops with laborers who work for pennies a day to make things I take for granted.
Just received my first hand-made wooden set from India a few days ago! Tis gorgeous and well worth the $400 tag ;)

Was looking for a "Kingfisher beer comment" from my fellow Indians at 2:16 , didn't find any. So here is mine. Cheers!
came here for this
Haha, good catch.
The set is crazy detailed, really cool.
That factory looks like something out of the Victorian England
England used to own India back then. The whole country was a private company at one point until they caused massive civil unrest and were taken over by the crown.
Conditions were slightly better in Victorian England - comparing with pictures of textile mill workers in Manchester and iron workers in Birmingham foundries.
The knight at 4:37 where could I buy that one?! I have to find that set. That is such skilled craftsmanship... Absolutely astonishing!

@rigoagui no the link is correct, you need to search for THE ALEXANDER STALLION SERIES CHESS PIECES
BOXWOOD & EBONY set which is $600
@rigoagui yes you are right when looked at it again, the bottom curves different, but overall i think it is same quality, maybe light in the video makes it look nicer. still both great set.
u can try look up chessbazar.com

Those are beautiful sets! I would love to own a set with the four legged table.
Beautiful. These people are artists.
Their knight piece is a ‘masterpiece ‘.👏
I have often wished I had the skill and shop to learn this. I would make pieces all day even if few bought them.
If you made it like this- people would buy for sure.. I think people would pay up to $300 for these pieces.
That might be the prettiest chess set i ever seen. I tried tio look up nice sets but they're often too fancy, too "busy"
These are classic and simple, but beautifully detailed and have great finishes, perfectly shiny.
Amazing. Incredible. Super. What else? Those are beautiful works
Wow amazing work. Well done India. The staff are really great
What's striking is that despite the poor working condition of the workers they produce such fine pieces. Ever wondered why Indian product quality is questionable, well here you go. The dilapidated sheds, poor work environment, and those ancient tools.
Indian product quality is not questionable because of the people working in it. It is because they try to cut corners on cheap products.
@@archaicnymph2977 if you look at the review at their website, people are talking about how they love the product and considering they bought it at 100-200usd price range average, it piques my curiosity of their workers pays

What a lovely video for a saturday afternoon, thank you very much!

I have a beautiful set of tournament size Staunton chess pieces I bought years ago. I know they were made in India. It would be cool if this is where they were made. ;o)

Those wood shavings are a hell of a fire hazzard. It wouldn't take much to get those going and with all the air between the shavings it would flash up frighteningly fast.
