How to Fill out a NJ Vehicle Title When Buying or Selling a Car - Private Sale

  • I spent a lot of time doing research to figure out how to properly fill out a NJ vehicle title. However, I've gotten conflicting advice regarding:
    (1) Where to write the date.
    (2) Whether the seller needs to write down his address.
    (3) Whether you need to bring your social security card to get your new registration.
Please comment below if you can clear up any of these questions and feel free to post any of your own questions.
Going to a NJ DMV now requires driving two hours up the road and waiting in line for 6-8 hours so you can't afford to mess up anything.
Here's the other video on this topic: • How To: Fill out a New...
I'm not sure if he's 100% accurate. He put the date under "date of odometer statement" instead of "date of sale." However, online articles say to write the date in the "date of sale" section.
Here's the DMV's instructions on how to transfer a title in NJ. It has a lot of useful info. However, it leaves a lot of questions unanswered: www.state.nj.us/mvc/vehicles/...
Hopefully once I'm able to talk to people at the DMV, I'll get all my questions answered and I'll be able to make a 100% accurate and comprehensive video on how to transfer a NJ vehicle title
"How to fill out a title for a New Jersey car, truck, van or motorcycle. Your drivers license number typically (atleast for me me) starts with the first letter of your last name. Assuming yours starts with an R lol. Otherwise pretty solid, I like to have the seller fill out there information and then have the ppl at the DMV actually highlight what areas need to be filled out so I’m not responsible if it is messed up

While this is helpful, I would think that you shouldn’t have “pinned” a comment that states, “UPDATE: Everything worked out perfectly. All this information in this video is indeed accurate.” When the ONLY reason ALL the data is accurate is because your last name, according to the channel name, is “Rosenzweig” which starts with the letter “R”. Only someone watching this who had a last name starting with an “R” would be able to follow all the information in the bideo, as you suggested in the “pinned comment”. Any woman who has EVER changed their name could tell you that the first 5 digits of your license number changes according to your last name. I have had the pleasure of dealing with my license number changing 3 times. My adopted last name had: S1553(as did my mother’s), my married name had: C0371(if I remember correctly), and then when I went back to my birth name, it was W6193.
This wouldn’t be too bad, except for the fact that, if someone follows your instructions and puts R in the space, they will run into issues when they inevitably have to alter it for the correct letter. Paying $25 for a replacement title is definitely not something that occurs when following “accurate information”.
