I watched this show on TV in London 1966~1970. Ena Sharples; Elsie Tanner etc. etc. The Theme Music seems very calming or soothing. It certainly made me relax.

If the roads are wider and houses bigger, the cast will have to be walking further to get places, wonder if that showed on screen?

I watched the show for almost 30 years until recently. It does not have the same feel anymore. Now it's all murder and suicides. I can see that on any cop show.

Sadly, I agree. I quit watching years ago. The violence was one thing, but it just wasn't the same with so much focus on the younger characters, with the older ones more-or-less in the background. But as the producers said years ago, the days of Ena Sharples and her type discussing the price of fish at the market were long over.

I can relate to this so well I grew up on the streets of a Northen City where everyone knew each other and I could put a name of a family in every house in the street Now life is very different The Street I live in for the past 10 years I don't know any names I am not anti social I just think its the way of life now But I suppose we have Facebook I know which environment I would prefer to live in and its the old one maybe a bit rough but it was Home

Flipping heck - I know they say the houses are still not properly 'full size' but they look a lot bigger than a typical house in a backstreet round my way.

I use to watch coronation Street back in the day and started watcing it again in 2016 I didn't realize that it's had 3 sets 1960-1982 1982-2013 and now 2013-present but it's still great better than EastEnders

Are they going to replace the headstones they originally built upon ?
The soap’s old set, opened in the 1960s, is now open a tourist attraction.
But one of the guides has been spooked by a string of ghostly sightings on the set, which is reputed to have been built on the site of an old cemetery.
Angela Barnes, 69, of Halifax, West Yorks, was told of the ghostly goings-on when she took the tour in Manchester.
She said: “It was a bleak afternoon and I said it seemed a bit spooky. The guide then told me she had seen a ghost - a child and a woman.
“She said they looked like they were from Victorian times which fitted in because she’d heard the whole place was built on a cemetery.
“She also said she’d seen a woman on her own a couple of times - just floating along and then disappearing into the air.”
TV staff have reported several spooky sightings down the years and in 2005 TV’s Most Haunted show visited the set.

I agree with a lot of the comments. I have watched this show my whole life and it gets worse by the day. But, I suppose it is not the fault of the show, its decline into madness reflects society's decay. Maybe someday if the world becomes less doom and gloom maybe soaps like Corrie will be able to reflect something positive in the world.

Be careful what you wish for. The soap is now what you described wanting and it's utterly woke rubbish.

Coronation Street is so nostalgic I did enjoy it up till 2000 but now it's bland and depressing. I walked down those cobbles on two occasions and feel sad the original set is gone forever , there maybe a a new set bit doesn't have the warm feel to it as years ago .

To me, Corrie's not the same since it moved to a new set. You could feel the history with its characters, but now it feels soul less.

    As sad as it is.
It is typical of today' times.
The old set had history all of its own tied up in it.
All those old actors/characters who walked that same set.
The question is whats the point now.
All the great characters are gone.
The pathetic replacement's today are well just.
    Well words fail me.
Soaps are well past there sell by date.
And this new set just says everything.

Given that the current trashy programme is nothing like the great series of yore, it is only fitting that the new street should have visually morphed into something almost unrecognizable too. It’s as if the original, long since deceased, is now finally buried. As such, they should have eliminated the old terrace entirely and replaced it with condos or townhouses, then renamed the entire street and programme. Any suggestions?

What was the point in this? All the history that was tied up in Coronation Street washed away just like that. Pointless. Didn't even think to try and use the same cobbles! Will never understand this

Nah, they were still filming on the old set when the new one was being built. The cobbles and such forth would have just been used for ITV Granada to sell assets. The old set and granada studios is being left dilapidated as the space is being repurposed for new homes and businesses. Me personally, they should have kept the old set open to the public as a museum of some sorts and even let fans go in and create their own episodes if they wish.

I had read somewhere where they're not the same cobbles, but who knows, maybe they did use some of them. There are videos on YT of the old set and how run-down it is. But I'm not sure of its current state, whether it's still like that or if they've demolished it yet.
