    do a youtube search for Tackle Advisors. he takes apart completely the 200 and the 300/400 tranx and shows everything. As far as salt, no other low profile reel can compare with the tranx reels as far as salt resistance.

    I have been spraying with full strength windex, leaving it on for 2-3 minutes, then misting it off with fresh water. So far so good. Patiently waiting for 151.....

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  Před 2 lety +1

      I would dilute the Windex to a 50/50. It will work just as well. The light mist at the end won't hurt for sure!

    i own two tranx 300 and one 200. nobody ever tells potential buyers that the tranx from 200 up are completely sealed on the handle side. the 200 uses bushings in certain area which cant corrode. the 300 and up have sealed level winds. all tranxs have a light contact seal that you can see when you take the spool out. none of this makes tranx a van staal but it makes it extremely resistant to boat spray and to water that braid absorbs. core protect is far more then just a water repellent coating.

    I’m a longtime fan of Shimano reels. I have but one complaint. Wish they would modify the markings on their external braking dial so that my old eyes could more readily see the numbers. Had this trouble arise again yesterday with my Curado 150 MGL, an absolutely fantastic reel by the way. Despite this one minor inconvenience, I can’t make myself buy another brand of reel. Shimano quality has been far too consistent over the past thirty plus years. Really enjoy your channel, J.P.

      Thanks Jim and I agree, writing is waaay to small for my old eyes as well! Not a lot of space to write it on the dial unfortunately.

    One of the toughest reels shimano makes , I'd put it up against the bantam as far as longevity goes.

    Would the tranx 200 be better than the Calcutta conquest for saltwater?

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  Před 2 lety

      Not really in the same ballpark, especially technology wise. The Conquest is loaded with features where the trans would be considered the Curado of the saltwater world. It’s a workhorse and great value and better in the salt than the Curado would be but conquest is another level

    I have a Tranx 201HG that I used for shallow water bottom jigging out in NorCal. Since then I have moved to Atlanta and was thinking of repurposing it for inshore use out around Tybee and Hilton Head areas. Does the Tranx 151AHG offer a significant enough advantage for such an application that I should seriously think about buying it and using instead of my 201? I don't need two bait casters as my other inshore rods are spinners with Daiwa Certate LTs.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  Před rokem

      Why would you want a 151 over the 201? Less line capacity on the 151 and no other advantages that will be game changing. The reel (151) was designed for Gulf Coast wade anglers as a primary target.

    I’m pumped to be able to get this reel, but I’m really hoping they keep a saltwater version of the next chronarch. I love the chronarch G. A lot of bang for the buck. Excellent advice on maintaining them in saltwater. JP, any sold date when the 150 is going to release? They keep saying spring.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  Před 2 lety +1

      @@ericjchastain no sire if it's the same frame and spool diameter. I can have someone check next week. Would be nice to upgrade to MicroModule but you would need to both the main drive gear and pinion for it to work and I know they don't put xship in the Tranx versions because of the saltwater and the extra exposed bearings.

    Does the 6 pin system really work any better then the 4 pin system? And also can you finish any of the mgl spool reels in the salt? Always heard the mgl spools are very susceptible to corrosion

    The only problem with the 200 size is it has the curado K thumb bar design which a lot of people don't like. Luckily shimano listened and removed it for the new 150 curado and this new tranx 150. It would be awesome if they could update the 200 tranx with this design.

      A tranx, stupid autocorrect not a transfer

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors

      The saltwater tears up the two extra X Ship bearings that come in Curado and the water proofing or treatment is much better on saltwater engineered reels.

    why are people saying the tranx 150 is $295 when retail price is $209?
