"Sudden death of a Princess Diana in horrific car crash"
"Meanwhile, Mayo beat Offaly" today and are going on to play against Kerry"
    Yup this is RTÉ.

She was British, and the Irish aren't exactly keen on any member of the British royal family

@@johnking5174 True. But I don’t think anyone cannot be saddened by the death of a mother with 2 children. Plus Diana was a royal rebel.

I remember they had a newsflash on RTE to announce that she had died.It was the last time I remember seeing one of those old style newsflashes where an announcers voice said we interrupt the following programme for a newsflash or words to that effect.

darkdubh Actually, even after that time, I have witnessed newsflashes interrupting regular programming.
In 1998, during a screening of a Dukes of Hazzard episode, a newsflash was shown, announcing the Omagh Bomb.
Strangely enough, many newsflashes that have been on RTE took place on a Saturday or weekends.

By the looks of the news set in which the presenters were anchoring this bulletin from it looks like they were coming from a temporary studio at RTE in Donnybrook in Dublin instead of the usual Studio 3, as there was no wide angle shot of the "virtual" set which they had been using since 1994. If I remember correctly, RTE News relaunched in 1997, so it must have happened around this time.

Seeing Mother Teresa there, it's sad to remember she died only a few days after this

@ateam22 Thanks for that feedback. As far as I remember RTE did break programming that day, for example to show the coffin being landed back in the UK

This is a really great video, thanks for uploading! I always wondered what RTE did on the day she died... Do you know if RTE broke into programming at all that day?

No Stteam22, only the BBC,ITV and French Television did. In Australia Channel 9 had a three minute newsflash during the Australian National Swimming Championships. Disabled UK viewer. I hope that helps. GOD BLESS!

We ask governments in all countries to unite bridge pillars as high as one or two meters so that if a car hits a bridge support it can still slide not as badly as a car hits a bridge pillar so that an accident hitting pillar like what happened to princess Diana does not happen again sorry and thank you
