    Just bought a Hotone Ampero second hand. As most buyer will probably do, I started out listening through the first dozen of presets. I almost put the board back on sale right away. That is how horrible the presets sounded! Then took a deep breath, and started creating patches manually. Now I am totally in love.

    I bought an Ampero a year ago and returned it a week later. My biggest issue with it was that there was no "stomp mode", meaning you couldn't turn on/off individual effects within a patch from a foot switch, you had to bend down and manually go into the menu exactly like this demo. The capt mentioned a pedal switch add on for stomp mode. These all in one pedals seem to be designed for a performer who will activate a different patch for each song in their setlist and not for a weekend/sofa jammer who likes to control 4 or 5 effects individually like a real live pedal board.

    Great job guys. Spot on. I have had an Ampero for a year now and use it almost exclusively live. It is all in setting everything in the chain up to the room. Very versatile unit. Good bang for the buck. Future buyers may want to consider a power conditioner as it can be tough to dial out some hiss going to the board at front of house as this unit and others like it seem to have the problem. Sounds best with quality stereo FRFR speakers. Headrush is a good value either 108 or 112. Both multi channel with decent controls. Cheers.

    • @LilSirAxolotl
      @LilSirAxolotl Před 3 lety

      Hmm 🤔 Thanks for that info. I can't wear headphones because of ear problems so I have to plug it into a Bluetooth streamer which hangs around my neck and streams it to my hearing implant. It's actually pretty cool and I hear the sound right in the middle of my skull. Works great with my phone
      Unfortunately though all amps I've tried with headphone outputs so far all have that terrible hiss. So bad it's even in the foreground instead of the background. Do you think a digital modeller like this would have the same problem then?
      I'd just plug into an amp but I have to turn it up so high I get feedback in my implant and even worse feedback from my neighbors 😋 it's quite the unique predicament I find myself in and the company that made my implant has no clue

    • @bretschwartz
      @bretschwartz Před 3 lety

      Toney, to your knowledge did Ampero ever activate a "stomp mode"? I returned my Ampero before a supposed firmware update to allow individual effects to turn on/off via foot switches (stomp mode).

    • @toneydavis9802
      @toneydavis9802 Před 3 lety +2

      @@bretschwartz Yes. Firmware is now at version 3.6. You can select which fx to stomp via fs 4 the one cosest to foot pedal. You can also move fx around in the signal chain which is great for putting reverb in front of the amp for surf tones or .moving the compressor in the chain. Brett if you decide to get another one get a good FRFR speaker. Again I recommend headrush 108 or 112. Any digital modeler sounds completely different in headphones than through speaker. I also have taken the time to create specific presets for each guitar and type and manufacture of pickup even going so far as to dial in pup position. If you dig into this unit and exrecise all its capabilities you can literally get a produced tone. If course there is always a need to do a little tweak to the room you are playing in. If you are playing a stereo rig it is a lot more forgiving. Outdoors is pretty much crank it up!!!😎

  • @zorkwhouse8125

    My guess is the presets are so heavily processed b/c its an effects unit at heart and I'm sure they were probably just trying to show off the effects capabilities of the unit more than they are trying to create a usable sound (ok, you just now said 6:30ish what I was saying that the presets are more demos of the unit's capabilities rather than something they expect you to actually use un-adjusted) Agreed though that they could maybe try a little harder to make the presets usable for those novice players who maybe might not be as comfortable twiddling the knobs to get a unique sound and who genuinely could benefit from having some presets to work straight off of.

    I have one, and I love the sound, quality etc of this unit. However, it has one severe drawback - it's possibly to overload the unit by having too many FX on in a patch, and when that happens, it becomes unplayable. You were going into the FX return of guitar amps, and then on to guitar cabinets. You should have had the cab emulation or IR turned off to get the best results. Those cabs or IRs are meant for headphones, frfr, or FOH where you don't have the eq curve of a real guitar speaker. That might account for some of the reason you hated the presets. BUT I am sure they suck anyway, because even the presets in Line6 devices suck. As you said, they are really meant to show what can be done, but nobody should ever use them as is IMHO.

    Tak naprawdę we wszystich tego typu urządzeniach działa ten sam procesor DSP Sharq (Helix, Mooer) w Hotone prawdopodobnie także. Reszta to kwestia programowania i przechwycenia dobrych próbek. Jednak aby cyfra miała sens uważam, że należy ją przefiltrować przez lampową końcówkę mocy:) nie jestem zwolennikiem systemów PA i innych, choć to owszem wygodne.

    Kindly do a multi effects shootout. A big one like you did with modelling amps by Rabea and Pete.
    Please please please include the POD Go cause no matter what you say imma get that one.

    Is it possible to keep some dry signal when using IR? Does it take wav files for custom IRs? (I’m considering buying this one for electric violin.)

    is the Ampero better than any of those Neural DSP Archetypes/packs like Abasi, I am talking in sound quality not flexibility, as I know Emperor has way more sounds!

    I tried the original Ampero and it was very impressive but it had so much noise that it was unusable. I wonder if that’s been improved in this version...?

      I own both, the older larger "Ampero" (18V Power) and the newer smaller "Ampero One" (9V Power). Maybe because of the different power circuits - the newer "Ampero One" has no more the annoying background noise and no hiss. So soundwise the "One" is way much better than the original larger older unit. The excellent acoustic simulations get worth to play on stage only with the newer "One". My first (original) Ampero edition device had to much hiss/hum for to use it as an acoustic simulation. Now the "One" works really good for public gigs and it is affordable. It has been tested in all genres from Johann Strauss to Chuck Berry and beyond with only one electric guitar on stage. But you have carefully to prepare your tone setlist at home before the gig. It is easy to use with the practicable software editor. I will sell the Ampero (18V) and would buy the "One" again and again.

      Thomas Gnome Thank you. I have heard this from other people as well. The hiss on the original makes it unusable for me.

      @thomasgnome6585 Před 3 lety

      @@aaronshortmusic And the best thing with the 9V Ampero "One" is - you can feed it with a flat powerbank (Falken1 Mega) under the pedalboard -> so zero noise and much fun over 8 hours. And with a Dunlop Volume(x)mini pedal side by side on the left you can velcro the whole arrangement onto a Pedaltrain Nano pedalboard. So I can exactly adjust two parameters by foot. That's all I need as a non professional orchestra / bigband player.

    This "idea" with the cabinets (to use them or not?) must stop at some point.
    The fact that our amplifier has a cabinet (even if it's a combo or head and cab) does not mean that we don't use the cabinet/speaker simulator.
    The cab simulator works in addition to the amplifier we choose to play with and completes the final sound.
    Using amp simulations without cab simulations is a planned failure in all respects.
