I have a 1960 Les Paul Classic re-issue in aged cherry burst, beautiful guitar, it was a gift from my wife. I'm a Fender man mostly Tele most of the time, but what I fell in love with is the small neck. It was the thinnest neck ever on a L. Paul. I love it.

It's fairly common knowledge that Joe Bonamassa bought the guitar while he was playing in England about a month back. I read an article about it online. Lot's of people have commented on this video & the last video about Bonamassa buying the guitar. Plus the fact, everyone knows JB is a serial Burst hoarder & that every time he acquires another Burst his powers grow stronger... He can definitely afford them too, unlike me paying to go & see him play live. £160+ a ticket, ouch!
Rather glad to hear it was used extensively by the owner up until the early 90's It was just too dirty and worn to have been locked away in a case unused for 50 years as originally reported. That dilemma has now been cleared up

The way I first heard of this guitar was on Bonamassa’s Instagram. He was playing a couple of nights at The Royal Albert Hall in London and my guess is he got it there.
This is borne out by the 'That Pedal Show' podcast on Patreon which mentions that Joe was looking over a guitar when they met him backstage for the interview. It doesn't mention what guitar however, but Joe does say the stories of his 'collecting' are not exaggerated. So maybe an indicator?

Mike, you're killing us with the suspense! OK, so it was appraised in the early 90's for $4000 pounds...? Even 32 years ago in 1990 a real 1960 Burst would have been worth at least ten times that and up to three figures depending on condition and originality. I remember going into a local guitar shop in 1993 that was selling the first Historic Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul's(54,56,57,59, and 60) because of the high demand and these reissues were selling for $4-$5,000 US dollars then. So JB is a front runner for new owner....lol?

Not at all. We have yet to come across a Burst that could not be made to play and sound great. All the key ingredients were there and no structural issues. We (and Joe) knew it would be a good one!

I saw him 2015 live in person, he was and sounded good, played the same ones there as always now, but would sound with new guitars probably the same LIVE due his technique, wall of amps and volume. I agree with we rather see good guitars in the right hands instead of a non player CEO closet, but most just sit by him around which other people probably value more for what they are and still make music with. Jason Isbell with his Red Eye for example how he got to earn his Burst finally in modern times, most people appreciate these vintage pieces and value them personal if they even get one..but by over 800 pieces, this gets lost at some point like another pair of shoes and the happiness hype wears quicker and quicker off (you can see it by most collectors of all things when it gets out of hand). In the end it's his money but it's sad for the instruments just sitting around.
ok then...if it's gone it's gone....i shall proceed to buy that "burst" custom shop Tokai "LP" after all...in superior quality and at a fraction of the price....and i'm gonna call it the "Clean burst".....🙂

I have this theory that Bursts will go the way of Clydesdale horses. Considered rare and full of nostalgia for times past once, but now lacking popular appeal because those who remembered them when they were “around” originally are passing. They’ll still be valuable, but their influence in the market will diminish. Especially as guitar based music is also diminishing 🙁
I have a theory that you're wrong. Your theory is less about horses and more like saying this whole Stradivarius thing is a passing fad in the violin community. And there are truly so very few authentic Bursts in circulation that value is only going to continue to rise. There will always be an elite buyer who's willing to pay the rising prices. Just like a Stradivarius. And I hear that violin based music is diminishing too :)
FOUL! As an appraiser of the guitar you have a CONFLICT OF INTEREST in appearance if you made a cash offer. You say none were “ripped off” but that’s not a good excuse. Either buy or appraise but not both. It’s a matter of professionalism.
We are vintage guitar dealers and just like every auction house, everywhere, people can take guitars to us for valuations. Originally she just wanted an insurance valuation but when she found out its true worth she decided she wanted to sell it. After thinking about it for a few days and no doubt doing her own research, she decided she wanted to sell it through us. She could have taken it to any other dealer or auction house to sell, or she could have sold it herself, there was no pressure from us to use our services at all. Not sure I understand what is foul about that..?

By making an offer you became both an appraiser and a buyer. Whether or not you take advantage of the situation you have created a conflict of interest. Our profession is selling vintage guitars not appraising items. I do not know of one single 'professional appraiser' she could of gone to in her part of the UK. I have been informed that Beano had either one or several screws missing or removed from the neck pick up ! if you focus carefully on that pic of it this is evident ..Your first presentation was poorly scripted and was very sketchy. I do not understand if as you now say valued at 4000.00 pounds,what player would store valuable item away in this appalling condition....You would assume they would clean it down and then carefully store it away! I did another Google for old Les Paul's and the values are clearly listed...
Good point. FYI, I do not have a script and I am not trained in presentation! I think it has been a wall hanger for some time and if your house is near a busy road then this is the sort of grime that gets on it.
I had The builders in and had to store my guitars in a friends house for three months in 150"year old house when I got them back home I opened the case of a 2006 LP, And it was cover in mould looked like I'd left outside like James trussart steel caster So I doubt the original owner put it away in the state you received it
Truth is ... you DONT KNOW the history of this guitar. You bought the story and now say its truth. Could have been made 2 years ago and aged in a barn to create the story. Like all these burst finds, there is a cult that either tears the story apart, or chooses to beleive and then like religion, nothing will change minds who parrot. Not saying I know anything .... nope. I am saying no one knows any of this "fact" as its being presented. Could be different. I will guarentee you Bonamassa will sell this for a much higher amount after the "work" is done. Based on all this "history" which is nothing more than a guy on a couch saying so. Its going around the world as fact and "history" is being created right here, right now. But wheres the proof? Just saying. This was done with the 3 peice top "first" burst as well and people just bought it despite it in face having zero actual provable history. Same parties always involved.

6 figures is anywhere between 100,000 and one pound shy of one million, so it’s a fairly meaningless term 🙄
