- The word may be out about what happened to the 1960 Gibson Les Paul Standard "Burst" that we recently discovered, but here for the first time we can share with you exclusively what went down, and how it went down...
The family we bought the Guitar from wish to remain anonymous, so all mentions of their names in the video have been bleeped out.

The estate sale at Bonamassas in 40 years is gonna be fucking wild.
Maybe...!
Was gonna post the exact same thing. Wonder if he'll part with this stuff while he's still walking the earth?
That guitar is in the best hands to be restored and played out in public again! Can't wait to see it back in action!
Couldn't agree more. Shame Joe is taking the bigsby off though haha
@@nikolaibarbarich7887 It was at the amigo's guitar show/swap with joe! I got to see it, it's fabulous.
He also put the "switch" pickguard back on it! There is a lovely red spot where the bigsby used to set. very unique looking.
JB loves the weird switch well the guitar will be played and Im glad.
Yes, he was fascinated by that switch!
@@voided76 That lovely red spot would be gone in a very short time If Joe left the pickguard off. The red Aniline dyes used in the very early 60's (same as used on the 50's) bursts can fade in a matter of minutes if exposed to sunlight. Keeping the pickguard will preserve that spot.
It's refreshing to see a man who is more impulsive than me when it comes to buying guitars.
Josh Smith hanging out. Probably one of the most talented electric guitarists alive.
Glad Joe got it
At least it will be shared played and gigged
Not hid in someone's collection never seeing the light of day
Great to see there could be still some bursts still left out there somewhere
Agreed!
Hope he films the restoration, would love to watch that!
Other people are doing the work to it not joe, if anyone will document that process it will be the guys doing the work
Love JB, he’s first and foremost a guitar nerd like the rest of us, but then is almost singlehandedly preserving decades of the finest musical equipment so it can live to play another day.
Yes, it is good that he does actually play them too!
@@ATBGuitars I respect him more as a guitar nerd than a musician. He truly loves these instruments and I really don't get the feeling his collection is a cynical cash grab/retirement fund
Joe thought about this 6 figure purchase less than I consider which brand toilet roll to buy, legend
It amazes me why Joe gets so much clag. He’s very generous with his time and sharing his knowledge. Very interesting video 👍
He's an arrogant POS.
Thanks for watching!
Anyone who talks shit about Joe, A)doesn’t know a fucking thing about real music B) is INSANELY jealous and envious. Joe is legendary
@@mr.smithgnrsmith7808 LOL, how's his D taste?
wipe off your chin follower. Wow!
Congrats Joe, can’t wait to hear you play it!
Its genuinely exciting to see people so excited
But they just aren't excited...
No one seems to give much of a SH*t.
Couldn’t have gone to a better person. Can’t wait to see it restored and played live
As soon as I saw the 1st video I knew he would buy it. Joe B loves those 1960’s bursts the most. It’s gonna look killer when it’s had a bit of work. Glaser is the right man for the job too. Very cool story and video series
A good outcome. It’ll be gigged anyway.
Brilliant, thank you for filming this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I've really been looking forward to this since the first video. Thanks for documenting it. To see a transaction for a burst, backstage at the Royal Albert Hall is something only the fly on the wall would have seen 20 years ago. This was so cool. Can't wait to see Joe's follow up video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
How much did Joe pay for the guitar
Thank you @@ATBGuitars
The LP couldn't have gone to a better person. We know Joe is going to restore it, us it on stage, and we will all get to see and hear it.
JB has too many Les Pauls, let someone else get this.
Awesome! Love it! That guitar is in great hands! Excellent work, guys!
Thanks so much!
I love how Joe takes his burst and just casually lays it on the table. Those amps are just off the hook 🪝
Yes, it was all quite something...!
Too cool…what a great vid & story for all involved in the finding, buying and selling. Joe will have it screaming again for sure…and love those Dumble’s👍
Glad you enjoyed it
love it when all the STARS align ....couldn't have found a better home , what a great story , thanks :)
That my friend, was so cool , I enjoyed every minute. Thanks 🎸
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video hopefully anotherburst. Will walk in for you guys
Enjoyed watching this intimate look behind the scenes with Joe B. It would have been extra special if the guitar's owner was able to meet Joe and tell her story. Best of all......It's a "Win - Win" outcome where everyone's happy. And I think it's great this old forgotten Les Paul has found a new home where it will have a chance to sing again! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching and Joe is bringing this guitar back to the UK next year when we will take the original owner to meet him and hear it being played. That will really be something!
All's well that ends well. What an amazing story!
JB just out here continuing to do the (music) lords work.. glad this burst is going to get another chance at life. It’s crazy how this is right up his alley too, such an incredible story behind the guitar, being unseen and undocumented… just crazy how things work out
Awesome - love Joe so it’s all good 👍
Just loved this story, huge thank you for sharing it with us 😊👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really cool! Great stuff Mike! ATB 🤟🏻🤟🏻
Thanks!
What an awesome video. Watched every second!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic!! When I saw episode one, I thought of Joe. This guitar is going to hang out with a ton of other classics!!!
Yep, it sure is!
Thanks for sharing this story and documenting everything. Everybody kept talking about who it could/would/should go to, but in my opinion the real value of this guitar is that now an important part of it's history is open to the public. These guitars will outlive us all and I think getting this all on film will prove to be invaluable in a distant future.
YES. Right where she needs to be.
Knew it! Congrats to the guys at ATB for doing the right thing all the way around. Joe B is going to put that Burst back together without messing it's unique personality and identity.
Thanks!
Can't wait to see Joe play that Burst! Glad he bought it, now everyone will see and hear it! Awesome!
What a story!! I enjoyed this series.
Thanks for watching!
good to see it's going to get played.
This was an awesome story, and so close to home as i learned that ATB Guitars is just 10 minutes down the road from Gloucestershire Uni where I study Music. A real burst bought by Joe was a walk away, mad.
It was indeed!
Top work showing us this vid. 👍
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome vid, thanks for posting!
No problem!
Thank you for sharing this video fascinating!
Thanks for watching!
Honest good people are hard to find these days great job guys
Mike,
I called it. And you know I believe that the guitar is in the best hands for that guitar to live on properly.
Agreed!
He gave me and a buddy free front row tickets a few years back to Bournemouth show, Cos a friend of a friend helped him out big time once, Pretty nice of him, Me and my friend couldnt afford the prices, Really nice of him, We need a good night out
When i watched the first video i said to myself JB needs to get his hands on this, and thankfully he has. Incredibly rare find and its in the right hands now.
Agreed!
Awesome, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I look forward to seeing how the guitar is once the work has been done. Fantastic story.
You and me both!
I have been following the story. You're nice to know. Thank you
Thanks for watching!
For guitar buyers, Joe puts on a master class of how to seal a deal. Notice how he never acts overly excited, never tips his hand. He knows what it is the second the case opens, and he let's his oppenent do the wrong thing, let's the seller talk the guitar down. If you go out craigslisting, or in negotiations for anything in a private sale, always act professional, slightly dissinterested, or your seller will pick up on your enthusiasm and start putting the screws to you.
In fact Joe didn't even negotiate at all and as soon as he saw the guitar he couldn't let go of it, it was a bit like love at first sight and we had to do no selling at all.
However, as a responsible dealer, it is our duty to point out any issues even if they are obvious...
@@ATBGuitars Absolutely, I didn't mean to take a shot at you. I was just translating what I saw with real world, amatuer sellers/buyers, and the power dynamics that are in play. Great video.
Agree. He was nervous from the very first moment he saw that thing. Talking is silver, silence is gold.
What a great video! Joe is such a nice guy and the real treat besides the bursts was the unexpected presence of Josh Smith! well done guys.. well done.
Thanks!
Crazy good story, and Joe is the best of the best to carry on the Burst story 👍
Yes, agreed.
Couldn't be in better hands. Hope he brings it to Wichita KS in November would love to hear and see it. VERY COOL!!!
Still searching for a left handed burst, needle in a haystack. Great video on found Burst.
I love how Joe is adamant…. “Don’t touch it, don’t clean it, don’t do anything to it”….. then he spends two minutes with it, buys it and proceeds to grab a screwdriver….🤣🤣🤣
Yes, he had to try it with the pickguard on!
That's addiction for you 😂😂
This is so great!
Thank you!
Thats gone to the right person. Someone who plays and loves the instruments, has the ability and contacts to bring the guitar to its best condition. Might even come back to the market eventually. looking fwd to seeing it being played when restored. That Crossroads tone - like wheels of Fire.
Thanks for sharing 👍 great story, great new home 💪
Thanks for watching!
This is fab. I was actually at that 05-05-22 RAH show as a guest of a friend who invited me. So this lovely to know what was going on backstage. It seemed to me Joe had 7 or 8 amps or speakers or combos on stage. I was too far away to see his rig clearly. I’m not a JB fan specifically at all but I appreciate what he does and his genuine love and his considerate governance of classic guitars.
Agreed!
Great story cool to see a guitar going to a new home and to be played well Joe is the man.
We agree!
Great Video guys ! Happy for Joe, hes worked his arse off to get where he is today!
Naah..he's still got a bit of ass left..😆
Glad you enjoyed it!
Cool video, thanks for posting!
Thank you too
Joe's going to bring it back to life and also preserve as much of its originality as possible and is practical. These things were made to be played, and I'm sure he's going to play it.
It's already looking really good as of last week :) I wish I could upload pics here
Other people brought it back to life and did the work to do so
very...very cool!
Amazing find
Thank you
Mike Campbell is another legend who has an INCREDIBLE vintage collection…Petty did too
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Hahaha JB bought it. Sooo nice👍 he’ll definitely play it once refurbished. Love it! What a cool story. Thanks for sharing 😄
Our pleasure!
Josh Smith walks in, has a look over Joes shoulder....walks away and thinks...."i'll cary on playing my old Telecasters".....haha.....🙂
but it's a "good thing" that Joes has bought it.....i'll watch out for him playing it.....should be interesting....cheers.
Telecasters….? I’ve only seen Josh with….ibanez😢
Now we can all rest knowing that Joe did buy it. In his Nearville east video, a couple of years back, he said to Mark. "They are still out there, they are not all spoken for". How true was that. I look forward to the refurbishment and seeing it out live. Because Joe is about the story, maybe we will see the former owner meet you and Joe to see the outcome, that would be the final conclusion.
Great series…JB is the man
Thank you!
Only bummer is no video series documenting the restoration
I couldn't be more stoked that Joe's grabbing that (I already saw him with it a while back, before this video, ,I knew this was that guitar)
I have come to really like these early 60's Les Paul's. From what i could find on them they are essentially a "59" in every way except
they were made in '60 instead of '59. Obviously the latter 60's have the slimmer neck shape but the early ones still have the
fuller neck profile. and the later ones have the non fading paint. The 58's are sweet as well. Those three Years were the best for the Les Paul IMHO.
Epic adventure
Yes it was!
Worked at the hall for nearly 40 years as a contractor would loved to have been there that day
Ah, Ronny Proler. I know him through the beauty of the burst.
"It'll do well in your hands." 😀
I’m feel sorry that the boys didn’t get their chance to tinker with this epic guitar but the Yanks have got all the expertise to take it to the next level haven’t they? Great story.
Kudos to not tipping her off, beeping out her name, selling it to joe and documenting the process. Cheers mates
I love this video
Thanks
@11:09 you can hear that is a sweet one just from that one strum!
Wish he would keep the Bigsby on it. It's part of the mojo for that particular guitar...should be retained in my opinion.
When I saw the first video I knew joe would buy it 🤣. Best part is it will be restored and out on the road.
He posted on Instagram thing sounds incredible
want to give a thumbs up but the count is at 777 and I'm from Vegas 😄 it's always nice to see people get the good that they deserve. I'd like to see Joe visit the original owner with the guitar all cleaned up or maybe he'll gift the owner and his daughter some tickets to a show where he'll play it he seems cool like that
Well its now at 872 so feel free to go ahead.. :-) Thanks for the comments!
Wow brilliant story
Thanks
This is Joe at his best
😎 Thanks Mike Dafydd ⚓️ Bonamassa’s style & music may not be a favorite, but the collection of a whole era of music is being well tended & looked after by noted craftsman in the field. Having the resources to …. Get it going in a couple months… is a feat. Just getting the electrical end sorted out is quite daunting ⚓️ Nevermind the instruments structure & playability. 😎
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
I read the story, now we see the video. What next, a movie ? Video game ? Merchandise?
All excellent ideas! Watch this space...
The Fake 58 tuners are made by my longtime guitar tech Julian Mullen.
The best tech on the planet as far as I am concerned.Still going strong BTW.
He also sells other vintage replica parts check him out !!
Thank you.. What is his Co. Name, Or contact name ? I had a large variety of original vintage parts.. Many of which came in handy. Eventually sold a lot in Nashville. Luckily I have 2 sets of Pat # Kluson's One set, will be used today to make a guitar "Right" W/Amazing, Closest to original 50's I've seen, "button's" I got from Lou Gatanas Decades ago. Hope they go on W/O too much trouble ! BTW, Thanks for posting this.. I Couldn't stop thinking about it ! & I'm in the U S for @ least the next 6 months. Glad Joe got it ! Cheers !
@@soundpainter2590 well his name is on my message and Fake 58 is his company name I can’t give you anymore info
It should be easy to find
Thanks
I couldn’t be happier. I don’t understand some of the negativity towards him. He’s very humble and down to earth. I sold his father Len a 2555 head with 2552av cab in pristine condition around 2005. I’m always wondering if he kept it and uses it. The inspection tag was signed by Jim Marshall from my recollection. Great video thanks
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
You don’t understand greed? Cmon
Tip top!
When Joe strummed his guitar it had such great acoustics.
That's what it is like at the RAH hence so many classic gigs performed and recorded there!
@@ATBGuitars that too.
His burst unplugged
Must admit I'm a little miffed at JB for not even considering running the switch for either coil splits or phase.....that woulda made such a good side story.
Could have been really cool to line up some type of deal where Joe bought it, but you guys still got to get in and refurb it as you wanted to... Either way, I love hearing about these things.
Yes, that would have been ideal but Joe wanted to use his own chaps.
@@ATBGuitars certainly, I assumed as much
What a sweet video well done gentleman you’ve had a cracker of a deal possible once in a lifetime situation, in A having that lady walk in B finding the right customer & that customer being within reach it self is a miracle, that’s how it is when Luck knocks on doors Bravo!!!
Thanks 👍
As much as I REALLY don't like joes music, I am glad that he got it. People bitch about how he hoards all the good stuff but he is curating an immense piece of history and doing it right! there's a bit where he said "don't clean it" and he's said he will do as little as is needed to get it working and running right. To many people would polish the history out of a guitar like this. It is what it is, Joe will get it singing again but it's never going to be a pristine example. But that's not a bad thing.
I really appreciate JB's attitude and approach too the instruments.
I have a feeling this one os going too be the new #1
It could be. Joe certainly like it!
nice to see it is in the hands of a real musician and not hidden in a bank vault somewhere..will he send you some pictures when it has been restored?
Yes, we have some pics actually. We will be posting them soon.
Meant to be HEARD and played….good shit. Bonamassa is the real deal
