  • Remember that time Jason Donovan sued pop culture magazine The Face for insinuating he was gay, won over £200,000, and in that instant upset a large proportion of his own fan base? Well, here's how it was reported at the time. Jason, obviously, has always insisted that it was all about being accused of lying and hypocrisy, while The Face claimed they were writing a serious article discussing the outing of celebrities in general and weren't implying anything. I haven't been able to find a copy of the article itself, so I can't draw any conclusions. I have figured out why the report here was so coy about showing the poster that the magazine reproduced, though:

'Three words, one of which is "Queer",' indeed.
Elsewhere, John Major, Neil Kinnock, and Paddy Ashdown are on the campaign trail ahead of the imminent general election. A hung parliament is what everyone's expecting, so the Lib Dems and the various Northern Irish parties are suddenly useful pawns to be courted in the grander scheme of things. Being in the run-up to the election, we're actually allowed to hear Gerry Adams's real voice on British television, but after this not again for another couple of years.
We end (prematurely, I'm afraid) during a piece about Nelson Mandela calling in a peacekeeping force, but before that there's a brief mention of the nation's children casting their votes. If you want to know what that's all about, you can watch the Newsround Election Special from barely an hour earlier that same day, also on my channel:

The UK government's broadcasting ban on Sinn Féin was temporarily lifted during the election campaign, which is why you can hear Gerry Adams's actual voice at 15:53 not the actor.

Yeah, and following this election, it was another couple of years before the ban was lifted altogether.

It’s interesting how the RP of the presenter sounds archaic to our ears now. We often think of the evolution of RP happening from the 1950s to today, but here we can detect the difference from 1992 to today.

We all know that Jason Donovan is not Gay because he dated Kylie Minogue , and Jason has got grown up kids also aswell, But i do believe all newspapers and magazine nowadays are not allowed to outs any celebrities as Gay unless it came from then

I'm not sure that rule exists - I'm pretty sure there are celebs who have essentially been forced to come out because some outlet was about to run a story about them, even recently.
