    One side of the fuses in the fuse tap are connected, typically the side opposite the wire of the tap. When you plug in the tap, that is the side power in the socket needs to go into your tap. You may have gotten lucky, but with fuse taps, you should always determine which side of the fuse slot in the panel the power comes in and which side of the tap is connected. If you install it backwards and the main fuse blows, you lose both circuits. In your case mirrors and dash cam. If installed correctly, power can continue to flow to the dash cam even if the main fuse is blown.

      i'm installing one soon and dont fully understand this comment. how do you determine where the power comes in? Thanks

    • @AleksandrKrymskiy
      @AleksandrKrymskiy Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@gpunique Use a voltmeter. This is important - because depending on the way you plug in - it might end up essentially avoiding the fuse and connecting the tapped wire directly into the power source. When I did this on my Forester - my Power and Acc taps are actually plugged in opposite direction making it look weird - but at least it works correctly.

    • @HaydenReeve
      @HaydenReeve Před měsícem

      Essentially it means there a right and wrong way to install the fuse tap. Make sure that the side receiving the voltage (the hot side) is not on the same side the wire is going out. Using a voltmeter will tell you which side is hot.

    Awesome video, this was a life saver! Just installed the A229 Pro on my 2022 Crosstrek. I used a multimeter to test the open fuse slots, and found one always on and one ACC, so I didn’t have to mess with any of the existing fuses. Fantastic video! gave me the confidence to do it my self on my 23 Crosstrek. The whole process took about 3 hours for me to get it installed, I was a huge struggle to get the fuse taps into the fuse block. I tapped into the Mirror and the Illumi fuse I'm not sure what the second fuse does I though it was the interiors lights but when I removed it they still worked. getting the connector through the rubber boot for the hatch also took like 20 minutes there is almost no extra room on the driver side boot for the 23 model I think the Passenger side one would have been better but by the time I got there it wasn't worth changing sides.

I still subbed and liked, but man, running the cable behind the airbag is freaky to me. Its obvious to me after you mentioned it, but do I trust a "professional" to take these same precautions and care about it as much as I do? IDK about that. I may just still do it myself. Hey quick question, hopefully you see this. I used this to help me tap into the fuse box. With the car off, I plugged in the cable to the camera, I didn’t get any power. I had to start the car to get it to power up. Is this normal behavior? I thought these things were supposed to work when the car isn’t running? I am also able to get power when I put the car into accessory mode. I just want to make sure this is normal before I finished the rest of the cable routing.
    Thanks!

    • @wildxtrek
      @wildxtrek  Před 10 dny

      You may need to enable Parking mode in the camera’s menu. In addition, the initial/first startup of the camera requires full power (car must be ON). Once you pass the first power on, and parking mode is enabled, the rest should work as expected.

      @wildxtrek  Před 8 měsíci

      I have not had any battery drain, at least none that's noticeable and affects the car. With the hardwire kit, it has a fail safe; if it senses the voltage dropping below a certain level (you can customize this) it will power off the camera. I've also set parking mode to not go longer than 24 hours. So far so good!

Only thing I can foresee is there will be increased vibration as the housing isn’t as solidly fixed as the glass, if EyeSight ever had to be maintained, the camera would have to be removed, the adhesive to mount the camera won’t stick as well to plastic as it would to glass, not sure how the housing would react to the added weight and I’m not sure if the adhesive would stain the plastic.
