You fools! This is the one time you watch the theatrical cut! It's far superior and literally has all the stuff you guys said it was lacking. Go back right now and fix it!
Watch the original cut as well!
Jason Miller is in the theatrical cut.
@Cinema Rules "Legion" is actually a Fan-Made version of Exorcist 3 from what I understand and is a different Edit all together and takes out a lot of the original movie. I would recommend watching the original Exorcist III movie, which in my opinion is really good and has so much more to offer with great performance from Brad Dourif and someone else!!!
The theatrical cut does in fact have the original actor for Damien and is much more of an Exorcist film. I haven't seen the director's cut so I can't really comment on it but I do love the theatrical cut.
Def the scenes in the cell make more sense in the original version with him and Brad Douriff in. 👍
Why does this comment is from 5 days ago and the video just appeared on my feed like 7 hours ago???
@@Mia-wh3tj They are on Patreon early.
I guess that's why the director cut is called "Legion" cause there isn't really an exorcist in it, other than Karras technically.
I think this film is one I'd definitely recommend watching the original before the directors. Seems like it confused them more.
Admitted, Brad Dourif´s performance in the theatrical cut is even better. I mean, it´s outstanding, even though what he says is so gross, I can´t keep my eyes off him. The scenes with him are also much more well shot in the other version, you should really check it out. That moment with the "decapitated head" alone sounds SO much more creepy and awesome, I must have watched it like around 100 times now already.
Btw, yes that is actually really him singing! I can do that, too, being a grown 35 year old man....
That nurse station scene is so iconic and still holds up to this day.
It's its own master class in creating tension using choreography within a static frame. It's simply brilliant.
@@bighuge1060 very true. The unchanging and banal scene makes the actual scare even more horrifying. The way that an initial scare lets your guard down is such a genius piece of screenwriting
there is a few scares in this that work better than any movie ever
Agreed. So many of my peers in the horror industry mark that sequence as one of their favorites.
Greatest jump scare in movie history.
I recommend a second watch of the other cut also.
So do I Dourif goes more insane
Me too, it would be very interesting.
Oh definitely. Both are great imo.
I agree. I’ve never seen this version but it pales in comparison. Bringing back the original actor in the theatrical cut you’re so smart!
100% agree. I much prefer it.
Not gonna lie, I wish you guys had watched the theatrical cut. The ending isn’t as jarring and there’s an actual actor from the original in it..
Thanks, I was sure he appeared in the scene in the cell, thought maybe they just didn’t show it here. I also remember seeing a subliminal shot of pazazu the demon (or whatever he was called), did that happen?
Absolutely liked the theatrical version better 🙄
@ksfhhnfan I wouldn't say he was dying of alcoholism, because he died like 10 years later of a heart attack.
Why did they cut him out of this version?
@ksfhhnfan It was still 10 years later...which is the point.
The actor who played Damian in the original was in this in the theatrical version. In the theatrical version it switches between him, as Damian, and Brad Douriff as the Gemini killer.
That's why I feel the theatrical is more impactful.
Yes it was a great solution. the studio demanded that an original cast member be in there after test screenings, when they brought in Jason Miller. Dourif was about to be cut from the film entirely but for Miller having trouble remembering the long monologues, so it was one of those things that inadvertently helped the film.
Lads, you need to watch the Theatrical Cut ASAP.
The original version ended with an exorcism. They really changed the ending.
The original ending with the exorcism is the worst part of the film. It doesn't fit and takes you out of the story
Yeah, they had to put an exorcism in there to fit the original movie fan's expectations. Studio shenanigans. Read the books, they're awesome.
@@juliocabral2084 I disagree. Maybe it takes you out, but it's a stand out scene with great performances.
@@kaerbear The books are awesome, however the theatrical ending is so much better.
@@juliocabral2084 I love this film almost more than the original. That ending excorcism is a very mixed bag for me. On the one hand I think it's well shot, well acted, and overall great. But part of me prefers the simplicity of him just shooting the killer in prison... and the excorcism feels added on - it's like the priest who performs it walked in from another film.
The Theatrical Cut is amazing, and Jason Miller from the original returns and does such a good job. Blatty wanted to release this just as Legion, but the studio thought it would be better being called Exorcist 3, and made them do reshoots to include Miller and other characters (there is an exorcism scene in the theatrical cut) to tie it in with the original more. Also, that hallway scene SCARRED me as a kid.
the theatrical cut makes more sense to me and its alot better -
I wonder why the studio thought Exorcist 3 was a good idea after the colossal fuck up that was Exorcist 2. People might have gone to see this more if they didn't associate it with the Exorcist going in
@@jadeandjesse5908 Maybe the studios thought that enough time had passed & people forgot part 2? Lol. But I’m sure they were just banking on the name ‘Exorcist’ as the selling feature and that it would bring people in. They also did have the benefit of Blatty writing & directing this, so maybe they were hoping people would see that as a selling point too? So hard to say, sometimes studio are so dumb and make crazy decisions lol
That Hallway scene scared me as a 20 year old 😂
Glad you guys are covering this. Brad Dourif should've won more awards for his performance
The way he acted for the role is totally nightmare-fueled....At first, I thought he got his inner demon out of his mind.😱
Brad Dourif is an amazing and criminally underrated actor.
His daughter is a great actress, too.
@@d3l3tes00n the way she portrays her dad in the new Child's Play movies is fantastic!
Brad Dourif is so underrated. I feel like his talent was kind of wasted. I say this because I feel like it happened twice. love Dune and after reading the books I went back and rewatched the movie. He was cast perfectly but script just didn't hold up and they wrote his character poorly. Then it happened again in LOTR. It felt such a waste of his talent. Sorry got carried away. Word🤮
The reason why Damian Karras was played by Brad Dourif is this: We the audience see the Gemini killer (Dourif) talking, while the Detective sees Karras talking. This becomes more apparent in the theatrical cut.
Edit: this is incorrect. For the actual reason, please read the responses to this comment.
Which is much better than this Legion cut.
Incorrect, Dourif was cast AS Karras in the original version of Exorcist 3, as Jason Miller wasn't available at the time. There was a deleted opening scene establishing this, of Dourif on a mortuary table the night of the original exorcism. The Gemini Killer isn't visually present at all in this original cut, it was a neat solution they later came to during the reshoots when Miller came on board and they created the dual role of Gemini/Patient X. Otherwise Dourif was about to be cut from the film entirely, with Miller re-doing the performance in theatrical cut. It's confusing I know, this film sure had a messy history..
@@hector-sauvage thank you for clarifying that and correcting me. I will
adjust my comment slightly
@@666tickets no problem, the blu-ray extras were great for demistifying what went down 🙂
@@hector-sauvage Yeah, sadly I only got the movie on DVD. 😅
Brad Dourif, who also voice Chucky, is amazing in this movie! His acting is incredible.
You don't think he's chewing the scenery a bit?
I knew i recognize the voice now i kno y thank u
@@allisonlee428 no problem :)
Dune
@@tophers3756 it's Brad Dourif.. that's the whole point.
I actually prefer the theatrical cut primarily because of the endings. In my opinion the ending to the directors cut feels anticlimactic, but the theatrical cut feels operatic. Both are still good, and I'd love to see you guys react to the theatrical cut as well. Fingers crossed.
It's almost funny. "Have you come to exorcise me?" *Pulls out revolver* lol Smith and Wesson compels you.
Brad Dourif is an absolute FORCE! He’s really shoved it out in every film he’s been in: Wise Blood, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Dune, Blue Velvet etc. He even voiced Chucky in the OG Child’s Play movies
Also had some memorable guest star appearances on The X Files and Star Trek: Voyager (his appearances were some of the only interesting things to happen during the entire run of that show).
Halloween remakes was pretty good too
The theatrical cut has both the original actor and Brad intercut between them both. You should watch that version.
Brad Dourif is top shelf: Watch Death Machine with him, great underrated movie anyway.
Dourif is also in HBO's Deadwood. ♥
I highly recommend watching the theatrical cut as well.
A rare case of the "directors cut" actually subtracting from the quality of the film.
TRUE - theactical cut is better
*AGREED!* I hadn't seen the director's cut, but while I'm watching the reaction I'm thinking some of the best parts are gone. And they even comment about a consistency problem that they wouldn't have complained about had this been the theatrical cut. 🤦🏼♂️
I felt the same way
Agreed, but initially I thought you were referring to the "clear" DVD case Sean showed us vs. the standard blue Blu-ray case. 😆
I like the concept of the director's cut. But I will say, even if it was shoehorned in, that exorcism is one hell of a finale. Like if Blaty said, "Fine they want an exorcism? Oh I'll give them a fucking exorcism!"
I really wish you had watched the theatrical *first*...director's cuts, like the Donner Superman II cut, can be confusing if you don't understand the background of their production. The change in quality is due to the deleted scenes existing ONLY of videotape, the film elements are lost The theatrical has its weak points but its more consistent visual quality is a big plus. And honestly, some of the changes made the story more understandable for audiences. Glad you guys enjoyed the director's but you NEED to give the theatrical a shot!
100% agree, even if not for the channel
Agreed. Personally i prefer the theatrical cut. It is simply much more satisfying viewingexperience.
That jumpscare In the hospital is the best of all time
Still gets me no matter how many times I watch it 😂😂
The original camera negative for the Legion footage was lost, so they had to use VHS dailies. That’s why that footage looks like hot garbage.
"Hot garbage...." I'll have to, with all due respect, "one-up" you, on that comment, sir. The VHS footage was a COMPLETE DUMPSTER FIRE. 🔥
That corridor scene is still one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever seen on film. I love how genuinely unnerving this movie is, yet also has some very witty banter between Kinderman and Fr Dyer.
Differences of the theatrical cut and the director’s cut are night and day. Theatrical cut is more entertaining and a tighter narrative. overall a better version and it has an exorcism in it.
The director's cut was not the right call guys. The theatrical is better in this case.
Agreed!!
Most definitely
For references Jason Miller who played Damien Karris in the original Exorcist is in the theatrical cut and the Gemini killer flits from both when talking to the Detective in the room. I didnt know the director cut completely omits Jason Miller though as he is another great performance in the film.
Also I should mention that while the Director's Cut is great, the Theatrical is also great, and I think you should still check it out.
To be honest, I found Exorcist 3 more interesting than the first 1. It's eerie and bizarre, why is there a Joker stature? Brad Dourif should have been nominated. It clearly influenced Se7en in some ways. I can't believe the last Black Christmas remake ripped off the famous jump scare and did it poorly....gosh that movie was awful.
Agreed on ALL fronts!!! Brad Dourif is absolutely incredible in this film and I’m shocked that I rarely hear his performance mentioned by fellow horror fans! I prefer this film over the first in many ways. It’s more than the (what has now become) cliché little-girl-undergoes-an-exorcism plot. Also, I will never forgive the Black Christmas remake for butchering that jump scare. It made me legitimately angry 😭
Read the book, Legion. The original Exorcist book and Legion are both very good.
I have to find this version of the movie, because the exorcism scene in the theatrical version ruined the movie.
@kaerbear no it didn't it was needed in order to free Damien from the gemini killer.
“Jesus loves you. Everyone else thinks you’re an asshole.” Damn, this movie succeeds on so many levels!
Total mistake watching the director's cut. You NEED to watch the theatrical one.
the daemon not being the same actor makes actual sense in the theactrical cut - because we get Dameon and Brad Durif each playing each personality - it makes way more sense in the theactrical cut
Both actors (Wormtongue & the original Father Damien) are used in the theatrical version, as well as the 3rd act being much more Exorcistey. There's also no cuts of bad VHS-quality scenes inserted in.
I personally much prefer the theatrical cut. It'd be worth watching for you guys, both to see the differences in tone and a version without the jarring quality-jumps.
Highly recommend the theatrical cut. As others are saying here, they cut between Brad Dourif and the original father Damien actor, and it's done so clever that there's times where you can almost miss it.
This is definitely one of my favorite horror sequels. I really like that it took a more detective/mystery approach as opposed to merely being another straightforward possession film.
It’s been said before, but you get the original actor back and an exorcism in the theatrical cut. Perhaps return to this at a later date?
I seem to remember the theatrical cut used Brad Dourf and the original actor in different scenes in the cell to differentiate when the Gemini and Damian were talking to the cop
The balls of the ending of this movie. Also love the very... literary approach this takes to the concept of gore. We see so little violence and it still feels stomach-wrenchingly gruesome.
If You guys can, watch the theatrical versión.
Agreed!!
Differences: 1) Brad Dourif's voice had a lower register that would switch pitch. 2) The actor who portrayed Damian in the original Exorcist was in the movie. They would switch between actors. 3) There was an attempted exorcism near the end by another priest that was introduced in the movie. And Damian was able to push the gemini killer's influence away so that Kinderman could kill him.
7:06, The doctor is played by the late Scott Wilson, whom would later play Herschel in The Walking Dead.
I just want to say I adore you two and what your channel is. It’s a breath of fresh air to have content creators that have a passion for films and understand the process behind making a film. This channel has become one of my top five CZcams channels 🥰
2:52 -- one of the many reasons I love this channel; there were several moments in the movie where I said to myself "The only reason this scene is included is because Blatty's directing and he's in love with his own writing".
That's Hershel from The Walking Dead - RIP
Kinderman describes gruesome killing
Shawn: "I didn't think that could get any worse!"
Kinderman: "The boy had been crucified."
Shawn: "Okay, it's getting worse..."
Pardon me, but I just had to laugh at the timing. :)
I asked twenty times for this review, and I'm so thrilled to watch your reaction. Event Horizon, soon please.
Very little was changed about the film beyond its climax. They brought back the actor that played Damien in the Exorcist to alternate with the Gemini killer scenes, and I actually think it makes the film stronger. But besides that, the film was written just as you see it
I liked the theatrical version I must admit. The actress who voiced the demon in the confessional box was Colleen Dewhurst who was married at one time to George C Scott x
Very very underrated horror flick, and George C Scott is a master actor.
George C. Scott was the best!
Brad Dourif is great in everything he’s in. Watch Child’s Play soon. He’s fantastic.
Guys, nooooo not the 'director's cut' version, it's practically a fan edit. The theatrical version is the best version. The studio ending is actually batshit. I mean, I'm gonna watch you watching but GAH
The ending exorcism in the theatrical cut is ludicrous and was only added because the studio demanded it be. I wish there was a studio quality cut of this, which was what was originally planned.
@@tophers3756 Honestly, I think it's iconic. Tacked on a bit sure, But the whole 'I BELIEVE IN....' speech is glorious. It feels like a better emotional payoff for the way Kinderman is losing it bit by bit, line by line, in this movie. And it finishes his character arc properly, declaring belief in something, as Karras is crucified in hell before him. It's awesome.
WARNERS: Call it Exorcist III, it'll sell better.
BLATTY: But there's no exorcism in it.
WARNERS: That reminds us....
That ending is so goofily out of place. 😆
@@jamesoblivion Tbf, the director purposely made it goofy as a fuck you. Respect to him for going all out instead of slapping on a lazy one to rebel.
@@Radb707 He really didn't make it goofy on purpose, he wrote the scene but didn't even shoot most of the scene himself. Some of the best makeup and effects people in the business were working on it. The big problem was it had to be done on such short notice and was shoehorned into a film that had a different character, probably why most authors shouldn't film their own work..
I will say this: That quiet scene with the woman in white killing the nurse is one of the best jump scares ever.
This is my first time seeing the original ending.
I still prefer how the theatrical cut switched between both actors for the Gemini Killer/Karras.
Yes. Keep that but take out some of the cheesy moments of the exorcism at the end of the theatrical version.
Nice reaction, but I think the theatrical cut is FAR superior. Too bad, would've been great to see a reaction to that.
Agreed!!
Nobody gives George C. Scott the credit he deserves here - he really sells that this cop has reached the end of his rope, his sanity, his compassion - especially after losing his friend Father Dwyer. Bookended with Brad Douriff's tour de force, its energy meeting energy. Nobody relents or backs down. So good.
Yes George C Scott is excellent. Guys, I'd also recommend him in the ghost chiller the Changeling 1980. It's not a horror but a very slow burner, very intelligent, well acted ghost story without, obviously, CGI. Very underrated I think.
You were told correctly. Legion is the true sequel to The Exorcist and one of my favorite George C. Scott performances. Oh, and the best jump scare ever put to film. :)
The guy sleeping on the benches? That bit made me jump out of my skin!
His performance is so naturalistic but dramatic at the same time, it's a treat.
@@jasonvoorhees3124 This movie has so many good jump scares. :)
@@jgarcia4721 I hope they check out The Changeling sometime....he was so amazing in that movie!
The fast walking nurse with the shears gets me every time even just now watching their reaction lol
You should watch the theatrical cut too (Exorcist III) as it will really help you to appreciate both versions more I think. The theatrical cut is more focused on the supernatural/demonic aspects. Neither is perfect, but both are good.
ah yes .... as a Nurse the Nurse scene always scares me . Good thing I dont think about this scene at work on nights , can't do my job otherwise lol. Greetings from Australia.
Very underrated sequel, love it.
Wait a damn minute. I didn’t know there was another version. I was like, “Why the hell is Chucky in this and not the original actor!”
Douriff is in both, in the theatrical cut it switches between him and Miller
Cinemarules: we watching The Exorcist III
Me: Yeeeeeeessssss 😎😎😎
Cinemarules: we watching the non theatrical release version.
Me:Noooooooooooo 😱😱😱😱
Shoulda watched the original version first guys, in this case it makes more sense as a sequel to the first film 👍
That was my reaction exactly too !
lol that was my reaction too hehe. I do hope that they watch the theatrical release at some point. I think that they will really like it. :)
You HAVE to watch the original cut with Jason Miller who plays Karras.
I remember seeing this theatrically and when that great nurse moment happened I thought 50 people had a heart attack,(myself included).
I know this is said a lot, this is criminally underrated. I saw this in the theatre but it wasn’t this version
some of the dialogue in 3 is genius, the shots of the inspector just having a conversation, as he would have done thousands of times on investigations, going through the motions about elements of the case that elaborates on the unexplainable, demonic goings on in this ever present ominous build, and him eventually being unable to rationalise it, going from dubious cynical 'seen it all' detective to last bastion between legion and the world of the living, it's highly underrated imo a true sequel to the first in terms of scope of the plot and raising the stakes
Great reaction, would love to see a reaction of the theatrical cut
Unfortunately it’s not a true directors version as it was put together by Scream Factory based on the script so it’s more of a fan edit than anything else.
The "white nun-ghost" walking behind the nurse to get her is just so scary and chilling..
Am I probably the only one who would really like them to react to "The Exorcist 2"? Everything about that movie is very intriguing to me, and I think I would have a blast with their reactions to it. Plus, the score is brilliant!
Hands down one of my favorite movies. The acting is haunting.
Brad Dourif is so amazing playing a psychotic mental patient being possessed by a demon.
I would like you to see the theatrical version of this. That’s the one that I originally saw. And by the look of the one that you watched it’s very different. Plus there’s more Damien In the theatrical version you see his body sitting there instead of the Gemini killers body more so you see the original actor a lot more.
Honestly I like the theatrical more, better ending, the original Damien is in it. Those looked just liked deleted scenes added lol
You watched the wrong version. This is interesting, but watch the original cut.
I don't think the director's cut is an improvement. It's neat to have, but it doesn't actually work as well as the theatrical cut.
A rare instance where studio meddling actually worked out in my opinion
@@CarloisBuriedAlive I agree... though, I'm hard pressed to come up with many Director's Cuts that were actually superior to the release version. People bring up Lord of the Rings, but that was overseen by Peter Jackson as a Producer to get the running time down to a reasonable length for theaters. So it really wasn't forced by the studio.
Gale Ann Hurd's cuts on Aliens catapulted that movie from a "pretty good sequel" to "GREAT and efficient/clever storytelling" in my opinion.
@@thelonelydirector yeah I think the only director’s cut I preferred over the original was Alien, and that was just Scott looking the movie over again after several years and making a few changes. I’ve seen director’s cut versions of movies and thought that a couple of scenes could have worked in the theatrical but I rarely ever think the director’s cut is all that better.
As they recast the roles of Lt. Kinderman and the the priest that Regan kissed at the end of the first movie, the beginning scenes of Exorcist III were to show that the two had developed a friendship after the Regan McNeil possession.
The theatrical version has the original actor on it along with Brad Dourif. I didn’t realize the director’s cut didn’t. The theatrical cut also doesn’t have those weird cuts. But all and all this is an amazing movie and I’m happy you guys enjoyed it. I love it so much!!
Thank You for Not doing 2.
Why not? Would make for a fun reaction.
Brad Dourif is such a good actor. But you wouldn’t like to be alone with him
He sure is, but badly miscast as Karras though.
Oh, yes!!!! So freaking proud of you guys for checking this out - this film is amazing!!!
This film is massively underrated; it gets such a bad rep indeed, but deserves so much more. The zoom in shot with the nurse: one of the GREATEST JUMP SCARES EVER.
The director's cut is great but the theatrical version REALLY works for me. I would absolutely recommend you check out the Theatrical version too. Great video!
It's rare anyone reacts to this film, and here it has to be the director's cut. 🤦🏼♂️ I really did not like this cut. It removed a lot of the flavor that connects it to the first film IMO. Really wish you hadn't watched this version. Fudge.
So glad you guys watched this film. It is one of my favourites of all time. I have both the Director and Theatrical cuts. It would be awesome for you guys to see the theatrical cut and review it. Not many people I know personally have seen this so it's amazing to see you guys review it.
I love your channel and I was subbed before the new influx of people came along.
I have been looking forward to your review of this film. I am going to watch it later on when my day winds down.
Can't wait to see it!
The theatrical cut is more fluid and is a drastic change to the Directors cut. I honestly prefer the original theatrical cut. The added found footage is too jarring for me.
Ah the good exorcist sequel, great to see you guys again! Not gonna lie, the tv show is actually decent as well
Wow! I seriously did not expect you guys to react to this so soon! This is one of my all time favorite horror movies, the true sequel to the original.
I’m so happy you guys liked it. I love this movie so much. I agree with you about the dialogue in the beginning of the film, it does take awhile to get going.
this director's cut is not too great, it's fine and is the real movie that Beatty wanted, but the theatrical version is much, much better...
Agreed, it should be seen as a curiosity piece rather than a finished product, but I get the feeling even if they found all the original film negatives and polished it up, it would still be an inferior film. This is probably the rare time that the studio was right and knew better than the director. I just think the "Legion Cut" had been too mythologized over the years, people expecting it to be some lost masterpiece. Dourif is kind of miscast as Karras, he would be in a different age bracket.
Legion is the bonafide follow-up to The Exorcist by the author William Blatty, and is on par with the Exorcist, both the movie and the book. George C Scott kicks ass as always and Brad Dourif is all sorts of creepy as the possessed murderer. I recommend you watch the theatrical version because it truly is better.
That nurse scene is THE jump scare of all jump scares.. that's how you properly do one, by already having a jump scare, and with the officer nearby, you create a sense of safety and that the worst has already passed and the BAM
The Directors Cut version is so different... Especially that ending... Now y'all gotta watch the theatrical version... The ending is completely different and a lot of the scenes from the directors cut are in the theatrical version they're just shot differently...
Always loved this movie, but I've never seen the Director's Cut. I must say though, if it doesn't have Jason Miller as Damien Karras, like the theatrical, I don't think I'm interested.
In my opinion the original version is a lot better.
I think you should now react to the theatrical cut. I think this is an excellent opportunity for you two to put your skills as film analysts on the table. Discussing the whys of the choices made between the two would be fascinating to see. The theatrical cut addresses most of your problems with the directors cut, but brings its own problems, and that's INTERESTING. I would love to see you two do this.
Nicely done. I really appreciate the deep dive. Didn't know there was another version.
I prefer the original cut over the director's cut.
This channel is primarily known for its horror reactions and its fans (myself included) love horror too. But you two seem to more so be film enthusiasts who don't mind horror but would prefer more variety content. @@CinemaRules "Legion" is actually a Fan-Made version of Exorcist 3 from what I understand and is a different Edit all together and takes out a lot of the original movie. I would recommend watching the original Exorcist III movie, which in my opinion is really good and has so much more to offer with great performance from Brad Dourif and someone else!!!
@@jasonquesada2248 I wouldn’t say it’s fan-made, it’s the original vision of the director, the theatrical version was what the studio wanted, very heavily influenced by what the studio wanted and not the director

I consider this film a George C. Scott and Brad Dourif head to head acting master class. Honestly, the rest of the movie doesn't even matter to me. It's the chess match between those two, and I'm there for it.
This movie is darker than the giant black hole that holds our Milky Way galaxy together. Especially with Brad Dourif's raging and that jump-scare hallway scene. Mr. Dourif should have gotten some award as the Gemini killer.
What fools told you the director’s cut is better? The Exorcist III is widely known for being one of the few movies whose theatrical cut is superior.
Agreed!!
Yes, it's a shame you saw this version with those very raw VHS scenes. The original version has an exaggerated exorcism at the end as a mandate from the production company, which insisted that it be called The Exorcist 3 and not Legion. While the final scene is the worst part, the entire movie flows better in the theatrical version.
In addition to Jason Miller returning for some scenes to play Father Karras (In the original cut). The other connections to the original are the protagonist, detective Kinderman (George C. Scott) and his friend, Father Dyer (Ed Flanders) characters that are in the first one, but played by other actors.
You guys would’ve been happier with the theatrical cut 😂 Jason Miller does return to play Damien Karras in a few shots mixed in with Brad Dourif’s incredible performance and there’s even an “exorcism”...this is one of those rare instances where the director’s cut is inferior so I hope you revisit the film sooner than later
