- Dave Watson's 1970 Ford Torino Cobra 429 SCJ is a rowdy 7,000 RPM burnout machine. Read the muscle car full story here: bit.ly/Dave429Torino
Dave's obsession with the Ford Torino Cobra started way back when he was 16 year old and his sister owned a 1970 Torino GT. It didn't have the 429 SCJ engine, but it was still shredding the tires with ease. Dave actually ended up owning that car, but got rid of it shortly as the Police was always after him because of all the burnouts they did in town.
Already in love with the Ford Torino, in 1987 Dave acquired a rusty Yellow Torino Cobra, but didn't get much luck searching for body parts. Shortly after that a friend of his told him about an Orange one sitting in a field, so he purchased that one as well. Long story short, Dave combined the 2 cars to the 429 SCJ beast he owns today.
With the Calypso Coral paint, flat Black hood, 15-inch Magnums and bucket seats Dave's 1970 Ford Torino Cobra 429 SCJ looks pretty much stock. But that's just the appearance. The 429 Super Cobra Jet V8 engine is now stroked to 557 cubic inches with 11.8 to 1 compression and fed with modified 1,000 CFM Quick Fuel Holley carburetor.
Dave estimates his tire shredding Calypso Coral 1970 Ford Torino Cobra 429 SCJ at 650 horsepower to the fly wheel. The power is controlled by T-handle Hurst shifter Top-loader 4-speed manual transmission, factory 9-inch rear end with 4.11 gears, 31 spline axles, N-case and Detroit locker.

One BAD Ford!! Luv it!
Plenty of fun, isn't it?
I like the car, but being a fan of rock and heavy metal that quick tune halfway through the video sounded awesome.
Thanks Brian, we use mostly this kind of music on our videos. Watch a few more, if not the cars you will certainly enjoy the music...lol
I like Davey's car very much 👍😎
There’s nothing better than a solid roller.
Amen to that
How do you like Dave's 7,000 RPM burnout machine?
Donald Cook glad you’re having fun around here brother. You own a Torino as well?
@Donald Cook It's nice that you still have a relaively classic truck. Is it a project, a daily or?
@Donald Cook Being patient is the key, but you have to keep imagening what you want the truck to look like when it's ready. That's what keeps you motivated :)
Lock the front brakes on a 150 h. P. any thing and it will roast the tires....
SMFH... lol...all the signs of someone who never had to work for their money.
Just M H O.....btw it's a nice car , especially if it's not a tribute...
@@TransAminal well, at least you like it
That's one BADASS Torino 😎
Certainly one of the baddest around. Thanks for checking it out
Love the car dave, mines petty blue.
That's a sweet ride
Rowdy too 😀
Nice Car :-)
Badass nice :D
VERY Nice Car
Thanks Rick, glad you appreciate the buid
Nice 👌
iv`e been trying to buy a car just like that for about 30 years that has been sitting behind a house near me since 1986 .. widow wont budge ..
Keep trying brother, everyone has a price, you just need to hit the right time
I had one in high school, but it had a bench seat in the front.
Still plenty of fun, was it a Cobra?
Makes me want to go through mine and pull it from stock. Or pull it out and go with another drive train to keep the matching numbers safe lol
Probably #2 is the better option 😎
Mine in 1970 was exactly the same, but mine had a console and in-dash tack!
Still a Torino is a Torino and I'm sure you miss it
Bad ass!!! FORD
It doesn't get much more badazz than that
Very tough Torino!
Plymouth Die-Cast Replicas you have the perfect proof here. Dave is abusing his car all the time and she likes it
Thats the one for me.
WHAT A BEAUTY❤ she'd look AWESOME in my driveway!! SHWANG!!
And your neighbors will love the sound of it as well :)))
Super bad ass/super cobra jet
The definition of tire-shredder, ain't that right?
Oh yeaaa,I got a torino with 16000 miles on it and it only took me thirty years to get it.
Congrats for the incredible amount of patience and dedication brother. I hope you enjoy it properly
Mine had a bench seat and column Auto shift , with the linear tachometer to the right side of the steering column. The front ends are almost identical to the Ford station wagons. 😂🤣
How long ago did you let it go?
sexiest car on the planet brother had one just like it in the seventies
Yup, and this one is a real beast. What was the motor your brother had in his?
I have a buddy here in Canada with the same name , but he doesn't have a sweet car like that !
Show him the video, it might motivate him to buy one..lol
Got a 70 Torino. Was a 351, previous owner did a Cobra clone and dropped in a 429 with a 4 speed. It's blacked out in primer right now but this is what I want to do to mine. Calypso Coral, black hood, louvers on the back.
Go for it Mike. We would love to see it. Will you be interested in featuring your Torino on our channel?
@@HotAmericanCars I still need to do some work to mine, not ready for prime time. I sent you an email with a picture. It runs and has breaks, but it lets heat in through the firewall, 3rd gear is sometimes hard to hit. Still got some work.
@@michaelsloan5249 I understand brother. Just don't give up on it and whenever you're ready to show it, shoot me an email
That's super bad, alright!
Red 13 tire shredder 💪
Nice Torino! My Dad had a '69 Torino GT. Hey, did the cobra badge on the grill for 1970 mean that it was a SCJ? It was standard on 1971's. Was that an option for 1970. I always wondered why 1970 cobra's had them. Thanks
Hi there, glad you enjoyed Dave's Torino story. The SCJ had the beefer 427 "LeMans" connecting rods, Cast iron PI (Police Interceptor) intake manifold, oil cooler and steeper rear end gearing (Drag Pack)
Ground pounders love it haha
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video
Which intake did he run with that shaker scoop?
Factory SCJ intake, you can read all details on the build on our website. Link is in the video description
Nice car how much does the state of Illinois charge you in taxes to drive it??? I use to live in benton but I was still smart enough to move to Florida.
Hi Scott, I'll have to ask Dave about that tax question. Glad you enjoyed the video
Me like!!!
Nice Mustang on your profile photo...is it yours?
Used to tape $10 to dash and tell people it was theirs if they could grab it at take off
Yup, they still do that, but with $100 dollar bills :) did you have a Torino Cobra?
@@HotAmericanCars My buddy did but would let me open her up now and then...another lifetime ago!
@@kensimpson9888 Good times and memories that stay forever
@@HotAmericanCars Amen to that...be safe bro
Does anyone know the music playing
It's from the CZcams library for creators
Personally i wouldn't due the E85/nitrous deal...that makes a street car a pain in the ass to drive and fuel. Perhaps just put some better heads (i.e. Boss heads) to flow more
Sounds like a stock cam
My baby.come to papa.
Kinda hard on the old girl!
She kinda likes it 😜 don’t you think?
@@HotAmericanCars Good point! My ex redhead was an expert power shfter!
@@grantjohnston5817 Nice one
No Factory Tach.......
Is that something that would stop you from driving the hell out of it? 😜
I read 3:91 ratio on the video?
Yep, upgraded to 4.11 during the years. There is a detailed article on the build on our website. Link is in the video description
That’s not a car it’s a land yacht . Need to mount a red flag on the bumper that thing is so long . Almost bid on one , glad I didn’t . Would have had to go to captains school just to drive that boat.
I like the way you expressed your opinion :)
But to be honest it has an awesome sound!
@@theamericanparanormalsocie9762 It's a high RPM-revving beast. Glad you appreciate it.
Not as long as you think. The low profile and sleek design make it look long. About the same length as a 2000 Taurus.
Please don’t treat that car that way
Dave built the car to be driven hard, and that's how these cars were built from the factory as well. What else you're going to do with high RPM, high cubic inch, high horsepower engine?
Better than Chevelles
We don't divide the muscle cars by brand. All Big 3 made some magnificent cars, but yeah this Torino is a real beast. Thanks for checking it out. Stay well
Motor running way to fat
why ruin tires like that?so stupid
It's just the way he is having fun I suppose
Corny music, noise!
Messed up the video!
The music only plays when the engine isn't
Oh god help us all.! I so worship though false god! Torino all mighty!
Amen :)))
