This town is world famous, but we regret bothering to visit. check out the video to find out why.

We would just like to clarify that this video is not laughing at ANY religions teachings or belief . Rather we are pointing out the commercialism and pointless tat sold.
Money flows through Lourdes, but unfortunately we doubt the majority goes to charitable causes or people in need.
The whole existence of the place has been ruined by money making
This is our opinion and our opinion only.
We neither believe or disbelieve any religion making us open to anything.

And I totally agree with your assessment. I went with my parents years and years ago and like you was very very disappointed...
We are not religious people, but our experience of Lourdes was very different to yours. We went in May23, stayed at the free aire, cycled into the town and locked the bikes up. Totally agree that the tat shops were tacky and numerous, but the basillica was lovely, we were lucky, the organ was being played and it was amazing, we just sat and listened. The whole place including the town was packed with people, there was a real buzz about the place.
Glad you had a nice visit, the history here is amazing, but detracted by the tat, not much was open during our visit , but it’s nice to hear of your positive experience 🙂

That trees, in the beginning of the video, they are the lover trees. When they are teenagers, the branches are united and they will be together for there life. I love them.

Sorry you didn’t like Lourdes. I think it’s not a place for tourism but a place for pilgrimage. Very different experience when visiting for faith. It would be a bit like visiting a massive aqua park but not getting wet.

Only been watching for a couple of months but thoroughly enjoying your vlogs - keep them coming! So glad Dolly is healing well. She didn’t need Lourdes!! We’re heading for Spain from Scotland on 26th - hadn’t actually thought but we’ll definitely give Lourdes a miss (thanks for the info 😂)

Yep been there and came to the same conclusion, great tree, I was going to buy the water but decided against it and bought a case of Stella instead and it worked wonders for my bad back

I think my reaction to Lourdes would be very similar to yours - especially with respect to the commercialism of it.
Loving the videos and especially loved the view of the mountains with snow!! I LOVE snow and winter (a true Canadian) - it is so revitalizing.

We drove through Lourdes last Easter Sunday, as it was on our route to Pyrenees, it being Easter we were worried there would be loads of traffic and coaches and considered taking a different route, but in the event there was hardly anyone there and I didn’t see a single coach. We didn’t stop and after seeing this I’m pleased we didn’t. Drive through the Pyrenees was amazing.
❤️Thankyou for watching and commenting, the Pyrenees are absolutely stunning , and the low sun just adds that little bit more , Lourdes is overly commercialised and didn’t do it for us apart from the tree 🤭 I’m sure it does get busier, but then there were many more tat shops ready to open for the season too ! 🙂

I love Pau in France. Entrance to the Pyrenees. Fantastic Boulengers. I overnight on the way to my house in Spain. Lots of interesting shops, and great architecture. Xx

It’s flippin cold in the south of Spain today. I am firstly, mountains with snow. I love snow. So happy Dolly is fine 🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️

Glad the recovery's are going well, what a great location and back drop for the ccp stop over, we've been using ccp for quite a while now , mostly july and all of august and we've never paid the £29 to have the booking facility and to date always got a pitch, on saying that sometimes by the skin of our teeth, royan is very often full but we've managed to get a pitch, again another enjoyable vlog keep them coming 👍.

Great video,it looks like your heading up to the Somport tunnel into Spain, you have to visit Canfranc estacion,absolutely stunning and so much history, then Sabinanigo ,Jaca then Huesca for a free air only 10 mins walk to a lovely centre with bars and shops.Enjoy

Great to see you back on form. A wonderful tour of the religious wonderland that is Lourdes. Very disappointed Corin passed on trying a miracle cure on her fingers, you could have just dipped them in the river 😂😂😂😂😂
Aww Thankyou ! It was certainly very interesting , but so surprised at the amount of tat shops all selling the same 😬 … I think the river may have cured it by freezing the finger off, it was a bit cold 🥶❤️❤️

It's as tacky as we remember 😂. The whole place was covered in dog poo when we visited five years ago and most places closed. I feel for those who are suffering, but the commercialisation has spoilt what could be a lovely place to visit. Thanks for an entertaining vlog

Just caught up with your latest vlog! The scenery surrounding Lourdes is pretty amazing but the town is tired and not somewhere I would want to visit at the height of the summer when , I suspect, the pilgrimage tours start. Aww lovely to hear from you both, it was a scenic city, just spoilt by commercialism , Dolly is doing great 🐩🐾 stitches out next week and onto Spain 🇪🇸 the starlink is a great package, but does require mains hook up or a good power bank , the breakdown of costs is on the starlink website, it’s quite pricey at £85 a month, but the reception is always superb ..

You're right about Lourdes, we felt the same. Nearby Bagnères-de-Bigorre has a great thermal spa and Cauteretes (also has a spa) is lovely with nearby Lac de Gaube also spectacular. Cirque de Gavarnie is 30 miles from you also. Best wishes.

Our Oodies have been getting a good run lately - so good in this weather (we're not too far north of you at the moment) - our first snow this morning, wrapped up warm and heating belting in the van. As long as its sunny I love this weather.

I was at Lourdes in August 2022. However, like you I was really disappointed. Not so much with the gift shops, just with the whole lack of atmosphere. The whole place was just scruffy and run down. So it is not just like that in the winter. The only town I visited on my route down through France that was like that. The next couple of nights I was in nearby towns at the foot of the Pyrenees, and they were lovely. I had a 10 day holiday in the French side of the mountains in September 2023, and really enjoyed it. So please don't be put off the area in general. Just that one town.
That’s so interesting, we wondered if it was just the time of year. I was expecting to feel something special there like I have in other locations around the world. Nothing except huge disappointment!
However like you our trip into the mountains rewarded us with the special feeling we hoped for . Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with us
This is such a joy to watch your travels from a cold UK. We have travelled all over Europe & the Asia side of Turkey (Istanbul is our favourite place to visit - If you want to know where to stay right in the centre and just a 15 minute walk to the famous mosques etc, please just ask). Looking forward to you getting into warmer climes. Pippa & Dolly are such lovely dogs.

We went Lourdes a few summers ago and it was even worse so many Tat shops open, and you can pay someone to keep your candle alight

Great video guys. Such a breath of fresh air to follow. Can I ask in the Vlog you mentioned LPG gas. Was I seeing things did the super market have LPG bottled gas🤔 we where under the impression you couldn’t get it in France?

Yes, not sure what the varieties of gas and connectors are, but they are readily available , I would imagine you would need the appropriate connectors to connect to a uk van , honestly not sure, we have Gaslow which is great due the abundance of lpg pumps at fuel stations ❤️🙂 thanks again ! 🐩🐩🐾🐾

May I suggest you head for St John Pied du Port .. it will more than make up for Lourdes.. and if you decide to go over the Mountains to Pamplona ... better still ...

@@redsgotravels it is only a small but very pretty place. It is also the starting point for one of the French Camino walks to Santiago de Compostella, we spent a very nice couple of days there on the Aire near the sports centre (which has electric) and the wife bought me a traditional Beret from a shop on the old main street near the bridge. Also take the dogs for a walk up to the fort/Castle. Safe travels !

You missed the superb Chateau (Fort) de Lourdes which is well worth visiting, and from April the Donjon des Aigles where you can see a magnificent birds of prey show.
We did have a good wander, but quite a lot of the places had a no dog policy, so that excludes us, it was getting a bit cold too, an interesting place lost in a commercialised world unfortunately ❤️
Any reason you didn't visit the Castle, I found it interesting and informative and in no way commercial
Thanks for commenting, time pressed on and it got a lot colder, Dolly is on restricted walking after her surgery, and I’d take a guess dogs were not allowed like a few of the ancient buildings, nice to hear commercialism hasn’t got to the ancient monuments .
You’ll see in our vlog a small snippet of the tat shops which were replicated everywhere, we personally didn’t buy anything as it does detract from the history and culture 🙂
Mixed feelings on Lourdes - shops look like they could have come from Magalluf! The old buildings looked spectacular. Could do with some of that healing water..just getting over Covid & have felt rough. Made me chuckle thinking of shaking Mary all over your food 😀

Not thought about Lourdes in years. Never been but in the late 80s and early 90s I had a friend who worked for the Catholic Church in Merseyside and he would go every year, although more s****s and giggles for the helpers than belief that it actually helped anyone I think. Aside from the gift shop tat it looks like quite a nice/interesting area.

We were there in July, what a weird place, like a tacky religious Disney land. Not allowed near the main attraction with the dog so I went for a very expensive beer while my wife went in. Absolutely gutted I didn't see the tree.
It is a very odd place and the tat shops really take away the true meaning, sorry you missed the tree , perhaps join us on our next trip in 100 years 😂
Beach and mountains for us. Lourds is not for us we found it very sad all those poorly people hoping and praying for a miracle.

I’ve been grooming for 7 years, I do DIY classes for people that would like to groom them themselves, that would be ideal for you on your travels, you should ask you groomer if they do that? All the shops had the same, and nothing was locally produced, it didn’t work for us, didn’t even buy the salt n pepper shaker 🤭
Only Mary not on show was a bloody mary, looks like it could be twinned with Pyongyang.
🤭there was an awful lot of tat which we felt took away the whole history of the city, there was probably a drink shaker there tho ! 😬

Thanks guys. Great vlog as usual It's such a shame that the whole place is so tired. When you think how much money that this site has brought into the Catholic Church, you would think they would give something back. But no, too busy lining their pockets in Rome. Camels, needles and Gates of Heaven come to mind.
It is overly commercialised, didn’t see too many people around, and so many tat shops selling imported good, nothing from the local economy at all, such a shame, the true meaning of the city seems lost 🥲 thanks so much for watching and commenting, much appreciated 🥰

We saw coachs fitted out with beds for the ill people to visit the grotte and hope to be cured. So so sad that folks are literally conned out of their money to take these trips because there last hope is that miracle.
We really recognise people’s beliefs and faith, but the tat shops really do detract and look to take money out of illness , such a shame for such a historic city 🥲❤️

I visited lourds in 1980 (didn't want to). I was in the paras at the time on a French para course at pau. The French army in its wisdom took us on a trip for a day there. It was full of wheel chair uses and flocking cripples on the pavements. No one was interested so all 50 of us took over a few hotel bars and got drunk. The result was walking back staggering and saying sorry every 6feet. Glad dolly's OK. We have just arrived back from Spain after 10 weeks😊

Im thinking that most religious / pilgrimage places have ‘tat ‘ shops - across many faiths - there are always those who will exploit it.
Absolutely, we’ve never seen it at this level before though, it really detracts from the city and its historic significance 👍🙂
Just to add to my previous comment, Canfranc Estacion is where the Germans took their loot and gold from world war 2 and the hotel is a site to behold.!

It is too commercialised for the truly religious, and disney fied for the non religious. It is mainly the desperate that go there.

Thanks for understanding this was a dig at the commercialism. It was very disappointing to see how bad it was. Money is flowing through Lourdes, but we wondered into whose pockets?
If Bernadette had an actually grave she would have turned in it if she had found out what they did to Lourdes. We went about 6 years ago in cold winter and were not impressed with the actual place. I am religious but i was disappointed I think the church is obscene the gold crown that could feed the population of Lourdes for a year.. You wont find a good place. I went to pray for my brother in law but he was still diagnosed with cancer and died a few weeks later. I didnt find it religious zt all.

I'm completely understand why you don't like Lourdes. For me is nothing saint or holly there. Just a bunch of crap souvenirs and comercial places.

Just in passing, do you know of a source (vlog or website) that lists when the markets are on in the French villages/towns. Local markets are possibly my favourite part of the French tourist experience. 👍🐖🦆🍤🥮🍷🥂

I have seen on the camping car app (I know I know we are banging on about this a bit) that when they list an aire they list the local market days. Hope that helps a bit
