  • Yes, the Olympics are entertainment, but they can also transcend sport. Ukrainian climber Jenya Kazbekova carries a weight few competitors have to shoulder. Two years into Russia’s unprovoked attack on her home, Jenya is channeling the strength of her country into competing in Paris. She just hopes the world doesn’t forget Ukraine.

I don’t know any of you, but Climbing Gold feels like I’m listening to some climbing friends gettin’ deep around the campfire. It’s good stuff. And Jenya, so many good things to say about that girl. She’s going to be a great Olympian!

I always cheer for everyone in climbing competitions to do well. But this time I will cheer twice as much for Jenya.
Being resilient together is a brilliant source of (national) pride. I wish we had more of that going on here in Germany and much less of the sort of ignorant "pride" that divides us.
The remark that the world sometimes just seems to not care at all hit home. We are too used to be ignorant, thinking that it helps ourselves to keep going. But your presence does help. When the conflict was all over the media, I did realize that I do care and since then I regularly donate, not only to Ukraine. I think that if you generally care about people not suffering across the world, Medecins Sans Frontieres (aka. Doctors Without Borders) is a good first organization to think about.
Thank you for this insightful and important episode!
