It doesn't get more '80s than this terrific song
I totally agree. I saw them at a fairgrounds in the 80s & they put on a fantastic show.
Yes! I was thinking the same thing, brings back the 80s memories fo sho! Lol
Apart from maybe Duran duran
Pretty close...I was also thinking about I Want Candy by Bow Wow Wow.
@@Chatta-Ortega good one, or "Mickey" by Toni Basil. 😊✌❤
Geez- the radio played this constantly! A HUGE 80’s hit!! However there were MANY!! What a generation to be a teen in, especially’! 😄. 💛❤️✌️✨
I was a teen in the 80's it was amazing. I think I was about 14 when this song was out. Wish I could go back.
@@job5802 I loved being a teen in the 80s! I was also 14 when this song hit MTV/radio
It was an even better time to be in your 20s.
The 80's was era was to me the legends era of music was simply the best
Kimberlini Bambini☺️ cool monicker. Hello from British Columbia 🇨🇦
J, you'll love their "Doctor, Doctor" "Lies" "You Take Me Up" "Lay Your Hands On Me". Saw them in Rochester NY back in the 80's, great show. Met Thomas Dolby in the audience
surlechapeau add in if you were here
I second those songs!
Yes all of those and King for a day. I love the Thompson Twins!
@@davidwalker683 I always think of the movie Sixteen Candles. 🙂
"If You Were Here" was on many a mix tape in the 80s 💗
Be the first to react to Howard Jones; "Live your life in one day", "No one is to blame", Things can only get better", and Everlasting love". Some others but that's a good start.
Oh I love the thompson twins and this song. Another banger from the MTV generation that is the 80s 🤗💗
One of the best Beth
It's My Life by Talk Talk.....thank you from our house 🏡
Yes! Talk Talk by Talk Talk, as well please.
Tragedy when Mark Hollis passed away 😪
MICHAEL QUINN Very much so. Great loss. 😢💔💜
Yes both great 80's songs!
Epic Song. One of my all time faves.
This was a huuge hit back in the day.
Yeah, maybe 1984/5. Same time Paul Young, Nik Kershaw, Spandau Ballett have their biggest Hits.
Yes! HUGE!
@@kimberlinibambini1988 loved them
The Thomson Twins were just as BIG as Duran Duran in 1983-84 there were HUGE!
Part of the 2nd British Invasion in music. The 80s were wonderful
Another great 80's song is "Only The Lonely" by The Motels : )
For well written dance music that was intelligent and had hooks galore, the 80's can't be beat!!
jan stan uh...80s ?....the 7os was dance music heaven...no question....all that philly soul disco...so beautifully orchestrated...then came this...plastic synthesized-overload. And the look....jeez...uggg...I was there. So happy the 9os saved us......IMHO.
@@11dsw See, I couldn't STAND disco. Nope, nope, nope. It didn't do ANYTHING for me. I respect your opinion, though, as long as you had fun!
jan stan ...no, I was waaaay to young. That early symphonic disco aged well and is pleasing to the ear. Lush and flowing. Im an 8os kid but..the synth it was too much.
@@11dsw Well either way, there's music for everyone! Thanks to many different platforms you can hear all those 70's bands in high quality recordings.( Probably better than what we had).
jan stan … You are right! 😉...Nothing like listening to “Loves Theme“ by Barry Whites Love Unlimited Orchestra on an awesome pair of headphones.
I listen to this song all the time. One of my favorite songs from the 80s 😃
This was such a MASSIVE hit in the 80's. Love it.
You've probably noticed that despite their name, it's obvious they're not actually twins. They got their name from characters in the Adventures of Tintin, which I believe is a comic book series.
Not only a comic book series but also a tv series and a movie as well, the Thompson Twins were the 2 twin detectives
@@kerriewarner4386 I think I remember seeing the TV series a while back.
bluebear1985, I preferred watching the tv show the movie was crap. Even though the show wasn’t meant for small children but I got my children hooked on watching the tv show
@@kerriewarner4386 I don't remember much of it, as I was still a kid myself when it originally aired, but I do remember watching it.
bluebear1985, I just don’t recommend seeing the movie, it was as if they tried doing a human/animated thing, it didn’t look anything like the tv shows. But if you have Netflix you can watch the tv show on there or if you have Amazon Prime you can watch the complete tv series
Thompson Twins- --quintessential 80s music that floods through the soul
"Doctor doctor" is another one well worth checking out by Thompson Twins, bit hit back in the day
Yes! Great song! 💗
I'd forgotten about that song. Shame on me
I'm emmie's sissy
Doctor doctor by UFO is even better.
I think the instrumental bridge in the middle of “Doctor! Doctor!” completely captures the essence of 80s synth-pop. Abso-freakin-lutely brilliant.
Adam Sandler taught me all the 80s hits at a young age in all of his movies.
That 80s sound. Wow! It was the best thing about living in my 20s.
I listen to this song once a day. I've been do this for almost a decade now. The song just brings a smile to my face
“The 80’s got some good music!” Lol 😂
YES SIR!!! THE BEST!!!!!
Teenage memories 😁👍
Yeah great memories of those days. Man I can't believe how life has changed so much since we were kids. I'm glad we had them 🤔😊
Also, Paul Young-"Every Time You Go Away". A big `80s hit...you will love it. ( Song was written by Hall & Oates )
Wow I didn't know that Hall & Oats wrote that!
I loved that song!
Another song I love, thank you for reminding me of it.
Come back and stay was my fav from him.
wherever I lay my hat - must be one of the greatest cover versions ever
Echo and the bunnymen The Killing Moon
Neil Smith that was one of the first records I bought x
Please add 'Lips Like Sugar' to that.
@@pamchilton8129 Also Bring on The Dancing Horses
Yes, please. They’re a favourite.
Yes! I hope he reacts to them real soon I love them.
Doctor,Doctor was another hit! From the days when the M in MTV was all about music.
I think these days it stands for Mundane.
What the hell is even on MTV these days??
I remember those good ole days! Geez, I used to watch Friday Night Videos, before there was even cable TV! Anybody remember that? 😁
@@MsLuvmusic81 MTV classic plays a lot of our 80's songs.
@@joyced277 forgot about that channel
I remember this in the 80s, 3 of my kids were teens and listen to this music. Fun times🙈🙉🙊
Carol Clements I was an 80s kid I remember running home watching the latest episode a he-man lol
My kids were also teens and it felt like MTV was on 24/7 so I involuntarily absorbed a lot of 80s music and enjoy hearing them again.
The lead singer and female were actually married for a long time but recently divorced 💔
Yes I heard.
The Thompson Twins are a great group who sang some really great tunes in the 80s. I feel they are a bit underrated and forgotten about, which is a shame.
Another great 80s band.
Give Erasure a listen another classic 80s duo. A little respect, sometimes, stop, drama. They have an amazing catalogue of hits
If you like this one, you will LOVE Promises, Promises by Naked Eyes. A classic 80’s song. Nostalgic
Yes I love that song
Love it! MTV 80's classic! My daughters were teenagers and watched it a lot. I've probably seen this video 100 times.
That’s all? Lol
When I worked in the shop in London in the end of 1980s I met Joe Leeway. He was our customer. We always had a nice chats.
“If You Were Here” by Thompson Twins. It’s criminal that it wasn’t released as a single back in the day. Hauntingly beautiful song. Totally 80s, totally Thompson Twins, totally rad. 😎
I'm so happy a young guy can enjoy this kind of song with the same enthusiasm I Lisen as child
Cool 80s song with a catchy chorus, was used in the movie The Wedding Singer with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore 👍
All Adam's movies have great soundtracks..
Liz Magu I noticed that, Adam has good taste in music I think a lot of the songs he grew up listening to 👍
That’s how I discovered the song! Love that soundtrack!
Anything off the Into The Gap album. Sister of Mercy, Doctor Doctor.
Into the Gap is a great album - the first cassette I ever bought with my own money!
@@neatdesign I was a bagger at 15 and I bought this cassette at a music store in the same plaza where I worked and I was elated!
My favorite 80s song. Still holds up today.
This is a good one
there song Lies is a good one also
@@user-DJDreamworld I also like their songs 'King For Just One Day' & 'Love On Our Side.'
@@pamchilton8129 I am making list based off what you guys are putting here
I LOVE the Thompson Twins‼️ The lead singer, Tom Bailey toured a couple years ago performing all the TT songs after 27 years with an all-female back-up band. He still has his amazing voice. I met him after the concert & he autographed my TT cassette tape📼. He's the nicest guy too🙌🏼😎🎼😻
This song makes me cry sometimes. I think it's the nostalgia, partly, but probably also has some old homesickness memories attached to it. I remember a road trip with my dad and my sister and I were missing our mom horribly and we were so young. I'm pretty sure we both started crying in the backseat because this song was playing and it made us miss our mom. But my dad would have this song playing regularly on one of his burned CDs while we were driving around in his truck too. This and "Doctor, Doctor" are my favorites. I'm 26 now and I'm grateful that I was exposed to such great music at a young age, and I'm still discovering more.
I was a teenager during the 80's music living in UK.. and I thought at the time how diverse music and people were.. it was such a individual era... each one bringing their own thang.. so many wonderful songs..
So loved growing up in the 80's. May be biased, but there will never be another time like it!
I love it, too. I love how the current generation are digging the 80’s and wishing they can experience it. Man, did we take it for granted.
Thank god ...could only go through it once....synth everything ....eeek !...the fashion/hair too...jeez...embarrassing.
Mirasol Balaga ....my kids laugh at us...looks ridiculous.
Once in a great while I miss all that hair spray and liner 😆
the late seventies moving into the eighties is when popular music changed , and what changed is who the music was popular with . prior to this it was what the older generation liked but with MTV a younger generations voice was heard and what the young liked become popular music ... and how do i know this you ask ,I LIVED IT
This is 80s music at its best and most iconic.
My Girlfriend at the time forced me to go to their concert in Toronto when they were touring back in the 80's... Best decision I never made lol, they were awesome... Great memories. Thanks for a great reaction!!!
This song was massive hit! Never gets old to listen to.
3 seconds into the video, and I am back in my parents' living room dancing with my sister, screaming our lungs out!
Saw Tom Bailey from The Thompson Twins along with Culture Club at The House Of Blues Orlando in 2018 It was amazing!
Yeah arms flinging back is an 80's thang....lol....hahaha...love the Thompson Twins!!! What a great group!!! Them and Tears For Fears are my 80's bands!!!
The best Bass Line ever!
Probably one of the greatest 80's songs ever
I thought this song would only resonate with young love of my youth. Who knew...
A masterpiece. Everything from their style, vocals, moves, lyrics, instrumentation, so good.
A 80s kid here! I remember being properly around 7 or so and dancing to all the great music. I haven’t forgotten the music from this day.
This is my reaction all EVERY Thompson Twins song :)
Alannah Currie, probably the 80's most famous Kiwi (New Zealander).
1984. This song takes me back to grade 3-4. Someone please invent a time machine.
Outstanding song by the Thompson twins and so is Doctor Doctor
"If You Were Here" was featured on the "16 Candles" soundtrack, and "InTo The Gap" is another good song by The Thompson Twins.
If I'm not mistaken the lead singer, Tom Bailey, wrote this song after an argument he had with Alannah Currie, the female band member who plays the percussions and the marimba. They were a couple. They later got married and in the late 80s/early 90s they moved to New Zealand, where Alannah is originally from. However, in the early 2000's they got divorced. This band has many other great songs and what I think it's really interesting in their sound is the instruments they incorporate such as the marimba, certain types of percussions accompanying the typical 80's pop/new wave sound.
Love Thompson Twins 💕💕 2023 and still great 👏👏👏👏🥂🥂🥂
super cool band. The lead singer and the girl, have been together with kids and the lot, ever since then, and still going strong. ❤️💕
Thomas Dolby "Blinded Me With Science"
I still listen to Thompson Twins when I'm feeling nostalgic, and I just want to say your reaction has put a huge smile on my face!
I have a fun memory of buying this album on tape at the Salvation Army for 50 cents back in the late 90s.
:D I got the same haircut of the singer, I was around 12 yrs old girl...the last short haircut of my life! :D
LOL Me too!!! Except I was 14 - I brought a photo of the Thompson Twins lead singer and a photo of Aimee Mann from Til Tuesday to the hair dresser and said GO FOR IT! I used to also dye it red like his too. Bleaching my hair white like Aimee's didn't come until I was grown because my mother wouldn't let me 😄
A song through the ages when you've been with your partner for years. 37 for me and my hubby. This is our song from the 80s until now💖💖 Married in March of 1983!
They played this song a lot.
@Kathy Jam ALOT~~LOL
Kathy Jam - one of THE songs of 1984!
@Kitten Katt I just meant that it got a ton of radio play whether some of us were tired of the song or not :))
Thompson Twins really says 80’s to me! Love this band! Lay Your Hands in Me, is another great song you might enjoy by this New Wave trio!
When it came out I was about fourteen, growing up in New Zealand and this was my favourite song. It was great to see your reaction to it.
I forgot how much I love this song!! You picked a good one.
They are excellent live I saw them in concert, they opened up for the Police it was an MTVs first live concert tour started in Arizona
Here were the bands at MTVs first tour
Police
Thompson twins
Madness
Devo..
I am 70s,80,90s kid. But I will say
The 80s rule. Best time of my life
I just turned 40 a couple mouths ago 😫😓 It makes me smile so much seeing younger people enjoying the music from my childhood as much as I did, and still do. The music lives on. 😊❤
So glad you found this! Thompson twins are soooooooo underrated! They’re the best :)
Oh yeah take me up is amazing
Check out Howard Jones
Omg. This was the anthem of the 80s for me.
I’ve really begun to appreciate all over again how good MTV was during the 80’s. Thank you for reminding me of my teenage years.
I rushed out to buy this song lol. I love it nice Jay. They did quite a few songs another one is we are detectives. Hold me now o warm my heart. Love it. Great reaction 😀😀💖💕💖
Ayse Clark-Carter did you by the record or cassette tape? Lol
@@tawnyh8878 lol I got the 12 in record and I still have it in my loft with others.
We were so spoiled in the 80s. So many artists dared to be different and went to #1 on the charts in return. Tight production and engineering still carried through from the 70s.
Super popular band in the 80's Awesome reaction!
Thompson Twins were massive. React to Lay Your Hands On Me next.
How bout lisining to turning japanese by the vapors n big in japan by alphabile
Hidden message to "Turning Japanese".lol
I wasn't crazy about this song at the time and MTV was overplaying it, but now I see its qualities. It has aged well.
The songs of the 80s always had a positive vibe. I was growing up in the early eighties and at the time you don't realize how great these songs are until you get older and you look back on them. I guess in retrospect you develop a newfound love for them.
This song is timeless.
"Doctor Doctor" is also really good. Please do more Crowded House (but be sure to do the studio versions because much of what's on here live is just Neil Finn and you need to hear their beautiful harmonies. "Fall At Your Feet", "Better Be Home Soon", "World Where You Live."
Jayvee TV Thompson twins "in the name of love" thanks johnnyboy peace be safe
Your interaction in your reaction to this song is fantastic! Love it! One of my favs from you so far! 🔥🔥🔥#JayveeTvTo100K
I appreciate that
Love singing along to this. I wore this album out. Yes, 80s dancing was free form.
I went crazy for this song when it first came out!!!
Thompson twins had some really good songs: lies, lay your hands on me, Doctor Doctor… All worth a listen.
I remember back when I was in junior high this song was on the radio constantly. It's been a while since I've heard it--it still holds up 35 years later.
Yeah ! Like you said : - Super Catchy Song !
Yes. "Doctor, Doctor!" "You Take Me Up," "Into the Gap," "Lay Your Hands on Me," "Don't Mess With Dr. Dream," "Here's to Future Days," "Roll Over," "King for a Day," "Come Inside," "Strange Jane," "Groove On," and "Shake It Down." Tom Bailey (lead singer) still touring.
Pure 80’s, 1984. I loved this song and had the 45. I played it over and over again. 🎼 The Lead singer Tom Bailey suffered a lot of mental health issues from what I’ve heard. I pray 🙏 he is doing well these days.
The hair at the time - everybody's hair! - was quite terrifying!
We really were spoilt for music in the 80s .Happy to see young people enjoining it too.Keep it up mate👏🏻🤙🏿
They were so cool - loved their music! Feeling young again ;)
HOLD ME NOW (1984): The only haunting song that you will ever hear.....it will last you a lifetime.....you never want this song to end.....it will bring tears to your eyes many years from now when you hear it again.....you will remember this statement forever!.....I know....I'm pushing 80.....Thank you Mr. Tom Bailey and associates.
PS: This is the radio play version, listen to the full 14 inch, 9+ min. version.......this song will really impress you.
I think the bass player makes the song. He almost gives it a Caribbean vibe.
Lead singer Tom Bailey is sporting an amazing rat tail in this video - one of those "what were we thinking?!" hairstyles super popular in the mid-80s.
Beautiful 80's pop. What a time for music it was.
This genre was called new wave and was very popular in the early 80’s. Very catchy beats, synths and relatable lyrics.
