    The thing about Ghanaian pidgin is that Ghanaian pidgin is for the senior high and university people. But Nigerian pidgin is for both the educated and non educated.
    Ghanaian pidgin is a vibe among the youths and not the illiterate adults

    • @yungthomas3710
      @yungthomas3710 Před 4 lety +1

      The emergence of the colonial musical genre called "Highlife" is widely credited to Ghana, but on closer analysis, the hybrid of West African and European musical influences provided by merchants and visiting sailors has long been thriving and evolving in coastal regions of West Africa and South-central Africa. Palmwine music is the predecessor/stylistic origin of Highlife music, but before the introduction of Palmwine music to Nigeria and Ghana by the Liberian Kru people, many West African and South-central African coastal countries had significant musical influences from European merchants and seamen. Tbh, each region had its own form of "Highlife" before it was coined Highlife in the 1920s. The Portuguese, British, Cuban and Brazilian (sailors, merchants or immigrants) had a substantial musical impact on Nigeria, and I'm sure the same can be said for Ghana or any western or south-central African coastal country. The events that occurred in 1966 which lead to the economic collapse in Ghana and the dispersion of Ghana's style of Highlife to Nigeria cannot be denied, but it is essential to know that Nigeria had its own neo-folk/native blue style of "Highlife" before the influx and amalgamation of the two. The same way Ghana and Nigeria had their own neo-folk/native blues styles of music before the Liberian Kru people introduced Palmwine music to them.

      @@niiamu3300 Yo, I''m not disputing the fact that black people and people of African descent have influenced music from the new world. Right now, I'm focused on West African music. Plus, I never said it was from colonial masters my g. The truth is that highlife was as a result of the colonial era and various new world influences, and that's a fact. It is a hybrid of West African indigenous music and European music. The term highlife was coined in the 1920s Ashanti empire in what is now part of modern-day Ghana. Obviously what is now referred to as Highlife is different but Ghanaian Highlife at the time referred to the music played for the Ghanaian elite, and according to Simon Broughton, Mark Ellingham, Jon Lusk and Duncan Clark the authors of "The Rough Guide To World Music" this was music provided to the high-class ballroom dance evenings that the Ghanaian elites and Europeans had become accustomed to. If you would like to do further research, I can give you a list of sources, books etc. This is all documented. I'm not here to waffle about something I haven't done research on.

    • @yungthomas3710
      @yungthomas3710 Před 4 lety

      @@niiamu3300 I'm aware of all these things, but I'm not here for this "black people did everything themselves" narrative you are trying to push. I'm deffo pro-black, but there is a fine line. Africans have been making musical hybrids with European merchants and sailors since the 15th century (Way before the Trans-Atlantic slave trade). Fast forward to after slavery, and you've got genres like Reggae. Reggae was inspired by mento which is a blend of African elements and European elements with roots in the Afro-Jamaican religion Kumina by "Kongo" (Slaves taken from the coast of the Congo's, Gabon & Angola). The stylistic origin of Mento is Calypso, and the stylistic background of Calypso is Kaiso. Kaiso is a word found in Southeastern Nigerian and Northern Languages. Mostly from the Nri, Arochukwu and Ibom kingdom (Ibibio, Igbo and Efik people). Kaiso is a reinterpretation of folk practices and music introduced by slaves from the Nri, Arochukwu and Ibom kingdom present-day Southeastern Nigeria (Ibibio, Igbo and Efik people) with musical features from Kongo (Congo and Angola) slaves. The Dembow drum pattern is native to Africa, and so is the Tresillo rhythm. It is not a coincidence that Caribbean and Afro Latin music utilises these rhythms and accompany them with idiophone (Struck or plucked) instruments, i.e. Steelpans, timbales and mallets etc. Well, these were modelled after African idiophones and instruments like the Ogene, Ekwe, Marimba/Gyil, Mbira, Kalima, Udu and so forth. I'm aware slaves brought it with them on a long journey to the new world. By the nineteenth century, these musical influences become the defining element in the Caribbean and Afro-Latin music. All the West, Central and Southern African sound admixtures were refined through European (British, French & Spanish) and a hint of Indian musical elements to form the majority of the music from North America, South America and the Carribean.

    • @yungthomas3710
      @yungthomas3710 Před 4 lety

      @@niiamu3300 There has been numerous foreign influence on what we refer to as black or African music. An example is the use of specific instruments and the double harmonic scale (Arabic scale) that is found in some West/Central African music. This can be attributed to the Trans-Saharan trade and the introduction of Islamic-Arabian cultures to parts of Africa. The Trans-Saharan trade has existed forever, but the peak of this trade was from the 8th century until the early 17th century. The musical proceeds of these contacts, especially of the contact with the Islamic Arabs, started manifesting itself in the musical practices of the people that were heavily impacted by the Trans-Saharan trade.

    LOL, it is obvious these ones have not eaten Nigerian food at all, probably ate only yoruba food, which is very very limited, (No offence to my yoruba brothers) Uncle and aunty kindly try these from an igbo or calabar cook and thank me later: JOLLOF RICE, egusi, ogbono soup, afang or okazi soup, utazi or white soup, achara soup, Bitterleaf soup, ekpang-nkukwo, three live yam soup or otor, onugbu, ofe achi, ofe oha or oha soup, vegetable soup with waterleaf, gbegiri, yam porridge or with sauce, fish or meat assorted peppersoup, groundnut soup, ofe abachi, Nkobi and isi ewu, edikaikong soup, atama soup, Ukwogho Etidot, Water leaf Palm fruit juice soup, Unam Ntong, coconut rice with dried fish, Steamed Cocoyam, fisherman's soup, Baked Mackerel fish with Cassava chips, Unripe Plantain in Abak Atama Soup, Okro soup, Iwuk Edesi - native Jollof rice, ofe Akwu, or palmoil soup, Banga soup, owho soup, Nsala soup, Peanut soup, Ewedu, Efo riro, Efo elegushi, Ewa Agoyin, Ofada rice, Agidi, Moi Moi, Asun, Pepperstew, Fura, Nono, Balangu, Kilishi, kulikuli, kunu, doya, suya, tuwon shikafa, tuwon masara, rama, all meat you can think of, kwado(haven't eaten this one yet), Massa, Fried or roasted plantain with any other thing you like, yovo doko, Afiame soup, and hundreds more.
    How do i know all these foods, I'm an Engineer who travels alot, i have been everywhere in Nigeria, some parts of Ghana and Togo and Cote' d' Ivoire, so i do know food ALOT.
    I can mention most of the Ghanian food I ate, which is very limited, especially the Banku and Tilapia, and their own groundnut soup, it was good.
    AND UNTIL YOU HAVE TRIED ALL THESE DELICACIES I HAVE SAMPLED IN MY TRAVELS IN NIGERIA, YOU CANNOT CLAIM GHANA HAS THE BEST FOOD, BECAUSE THEY DO NOT AT ALL.
    I live in Lagos, Nigeria. and I'm willing to host you guys if you feel otherwise.
    Peace.

      Nigeria has thousands of recipes, thousands even I the great lover of strange cuisine have not yet sampled, so never compare ghana food with Nigerian. Class apart people. as for Jollof rice, hmmmmmmm, we cook it in so many ways, even the Senegalese (Original owners) have given up competing.

    I enjoyed this. I laughed so hard with some of them because I know how they both are😁😅😁😁. I knew your brother would prefer Ghana in terms of dating because they are less drama. But Nigerians are more extra, romantic, Universal. But Ghana is more leveled in terms of balance or more peaceable. But I love Naija. I can relate to both cultures. I see Jamaicans in both!!
    I'm a NYC born Jamaican 🇯🇲
