Alfa totally nailed the design for me, I love the look of it. It's probably priced about right considering where the competition is to. I hope this does well, its a lovely looking thing and we need more compact, relatively light EVs on the market.
It looks like Alfa have nailed it on price, performance, weight, and above all handling. I would just like to see its bigger brother when it comes out before committing. Thanks for the first proper review of this that I have seen.

@@NoggintheNog37 The GV60 is one category larger than this car (417 cm vs. 451 cm in length). And a completely different category if we're talking about charging and comfort. The closest competition for this vehicle is the Alpine A290.
At 2300kg The IONIQ5N also weighs 700kg more, which is where the comparison is valid due to the handling compromise. I’m sure Alfa could make a 650bhp electric car with a sub 1800kg kerb weight.
• The i5N is from a different class, so it is bigger in every direction, performance, and range. • After driving EV's for 12 years, I would say for range and performance parity, you need close to 4 miles per Kilowatt of energy to have reduced range anxiety. So let's say 3.5m/kW - you need to travel at 70mph for 3hrs before a break is needed on a long-distance trip. So, an optimal battery range at 70mph for 3 hours needs at 3.5m/kW = 210 miles*3.5m/kW = 60kW battery (usable range), plus the 10% we don't go below and the 80% ideal charge capacity. So, an extra 30% is needed for the battery we are advised to have, to keep the battery healthy. • So, in theory, for a 3-hour motorway journey at 70mph, with aircon, in-car entertainment, hills, the odd boost of power for overtaking etc, another 18kW is needed, making a standard battery 78kW. (Few cars can maintain 3.5m/kW for 3hrs at 70mph...) • Of course, this would be a 2.5 tonne car (with lower efficiency). So, 100kW charge? Too slow, if you want continued adoption of these types of vehicles. • My current car is a Zoe with only 50kW CCS, and a 52kW battery. I have to ignore the safety limits of 80% charging because my range is 220miles. Charging takes over 1 hour 15mins, and I drive on ECO at 60-65 mph for all long journeys. • No one wants to answer these types of comments except to say, we don't do long distances in the UK all the time... our average journey distance is low. But if you only have one car to cover every occasion, what would you choose? And at what price entry point?
Great video Nicki, looked lots of fun. A track focussed crossover makes no sense, who is going to take their family crossover on a track? I feel sorry for Alfa, stuck with the Stellantis FWD platform when the switch to EVs makes RWD easy. I’m sure it drives nicely, but it’d be even more fun if the back wheels did the driving and the front ones just the steering
No, it’s NOT track focused. This drive event shows how the Alfa handles on a twisty road when driven enthusiastically. The Junior has not yet been homologated so can’t yet be driven on public roads. Of course if one never drives with enthusiasm then you’d never consider an Alfa anyway.

An electric performance car with less than 1600kg kerb weight. Only Alfa could, and they did. It looks really good, and should be a wake-up call for German brands. Like, why must their electric cars weigh over 2 tonnes? This shows that they need not.
The obvious answer is that they cut back on the battery size and sound deadening, both of which are heavy. 54 kWh is pretty small and at a realistic 3.5 miles/kWh it will only have a real world range of under 190 miles, which is way behind most rivals.

Nice looking car. First thing I want to hear on any electric car review is range and price. It’s always left very late on. You struggle to find the battery size on Alpha’s site, but it’s a lowly 54 kWh. Will struggle to get 200 miles, no good at all.
These new Stellantis cars are supposed to be pretty efficient. Frankly a big battery in a car like this would be totally stupid - if its going to handle well you want to keep it light! WLTP is a better indication of comparative range between cars than battery size is, and this is in the same WLTP ballpark as plenty of other cars that manage a real world 180-200 miles - more than adequate.
Sorry but the title is a bit missleading. Thats not a hatchback. Its an SUV. The giulietta was a hatchback. This is an SUV. Even Alfa called it an SUV.
Nice car, having it lighter is a good thing - can't have it heavy if it's called Junior :) They can lose the fake engine noise and ideally have the same front and rear brakes - purely to make it look better.
Good review! Seems like Alfa does know how to make a proper EV. I'm curious for the Electric Giulia! The comparison at the end however is not correct. The Hyuandai Ioniq 5 N is much bigger and has got more than twice the power.
Not sure how to feel, it is a re-branded 3008. Looks amazing, yes, the price is actually not that bad, but Alfa is not supposed to be just a re-brand. Like even MiTO and Giulietta, clearly Fiats, had that some extra flair. Not sure, need to see one in person. That Stelvio disaster, for example, is a tragedy.
Great review as always from Electrifying! I can’t quite get on board with the styling of this car… I think the rear is just a bit ‘meh’ compared to the rest of the car. Almost like they ran out of money/ideas. Maybe it’ll be better in person 🤔
Can you test the lower versions please. It would be a huge disappointment if they don't get the same steering and suspension just because they aren't as fast. (I know it wouldn't be logical for them to be lesser in those departments, but most manufacturers don't seem to have logical minds when it comes to their cheaper models and think customers should make do with inferior handling and steering if they opt for the more economical models!)
While the front is well done, looking to the rear I'm spontaneously getting depressed! The front has this aggressive dynamic look while the totally has not. And these rear lights coming downwards over the side is so ugly. It stands totally off the cars design. The ugliness starts with the C pillar all way to the back end.
I love this car but I don’t like the black bit under the lights, if that was body coloured it would look so much better, I think I’ll have to get a black one
I'm all for rear window wipers however just look at the back of this car, this wiper looks like it destroys the aerodynamics, I don't get why they didn't install the rear wiper under the rear roof tail, with a down swing motion.
We loved the sport cars of Alfa Romeo, Alfa was like the Italian Studebaker of the 50th and 60th. Great designs and mostly 2-door coupe's and cabrio's. This 4 door thing is just the next boring "SUV like" transport vehicle. BTW, a "hot hatch" also has just 2 side doors and the "hatch" is the 3rd. When describing the body style, the hatch is counted as a door, therefore a hatchback with two passenger doors is called a three-door and a hatchback. "Hot hatch" is when that car had a stronger engine. With four passenger doors it is called a five-door, or possibly in 2024 a SUV. That it can go faster around the corner doesn't make it a hot hatch, more a "hot SUV", And it is not much different than a Volvo EX30 or a Citroën ë-C3. So what, that it is 2 sec faster from 0-100 than the ë-C3, it is also over €10k more expansive. When this was a 2-door coupe, yes, that would make it fun, exotic and unique again, but his is just the next 4-door SUV in an endless line of boring 4-door SUVs that fill the streets.
Nice looking front, interior and red colour but the rest of it is generic Stellantis. Back looks like an EV6. The Veloce is over-priced and the basic one is just a re-skinned e2008/Mokka/Avenger etc. Veloce will pick up some customers but can’t see this being popular overall - just another very expensive, smallish crossover EV and as it’s Stellantis will drop in price like a stone.
Put the name on the back so everyone can watch from a distance when it goes wrong, being an Alfa who knows what multitude of problems may occur. As Top Gear(OG) covered off on this brand comprehensively many times over.
such a shame it's yet another suv rather than a normal hatchback. the car would look so much better if it wasn't on stilts. With how cars have got faster over the years I wouldn't call it a hot hatch anymore, just warm.
Imagine I never set foot in Poland but would get a polish passport if I speak with a Polish Accent and pay a company in Poland for organizing it all.. Thats how much Italien 🇮🇹 car this is to me. Not that it matters
It doesnt matter how fun it is to drive , it has a small battery and slow charging and it has the same power as a standard Smart or Volvo and it costs too much , Stellantis has really pulled the wool over the reviewers eyes with this one .
in front it looks like previous Renault Captur, from the back it looks like some KIA EVs. SUVs and crossovers could try to look nice, look kinda sporty, be kinda fun, but the fundamentals aren't there. if you know you know.
@Petroelhead Petroelhead said: "The giulietta was a hatchback." @@reynotleAgree that the Giulietta is a hatchback ( just a five door one rather than three ). The Tesla is more of a saloon in the UK market place. This new Alfa is a small SUV. Not a hot hatch though

This is only 30mm higher and 30mm shorter than Megane E Tech and it is only 30-40 kgs lighter including 10% smaller battery. Alfa, uhm sorry Stellantis exaggerated the 200 kgs lighter statement.
IMO Alfa's parent company Stellantis does a very bad job of using parts from it's various brands. If you're going to swap parts to save cost, don't put cheap buttons used in a Dodge, and put them in a Maserati Ghibli which starts at over $100k. Take the underpinnings of tested vehicles like the engines and such which the average person won't notice. Also, I think the style of the Junior from the rear door back looks cheap with the door handle that's embeded. It doesn't look like an Alfa Romeo, but a cheap jeep/dodge knockoff.
"a track focused suv" ... aarrghh !! For the love of God, can you *please* not use that expression. It is complete nonsensical gobbledegook. Otherwise, a very engaging review. I can't quite believe I'm saying this, but I actually like this car. It must be because it's red, and an Alfa Romeo. I have a weakness for anything red and Italian, which fatally erodes my critical facilities. But it still seems like a really nice little (?) car, amazing really, when you consider that it belongs to a class of cars, which are very easy to dislike; namely compact cross-over/suv type EVs.

Not bad looking car, and those seats look inviting! Reminiscent of the EV6 at the rear 🤔
Can you test the lower versions please. It would be a huge disappointment if they don't get the same steering and suspension just because they aren't as fast. (I know it wouldn't be logical for them to be lesser in those departments, but most manufacturers don't seem to have logical minds when it comes to their cheaper models and think customers should make do with inferior handling and steering if they opt for the more economical models!)
the black looks like a baby purosangue
Wow Lucky you! Loved my 1970's Spider :)
The clover shaped wheels are a reference to their sports variant the Cloverleaf.
It doesn´t anymore have those Italian gauges like olio and benzina (oil and fuel) because it´s an electric car.
While the front is well done, looking to the rear I'm spontaneously getting depressed! The front has this aggressive dynamic look while the totally has not. And these rear lights coming downwards over the side is so ugly. It stands totally off the cars design. The ugliness starts with the C pillar all way to the back end.
I’ve worked out why it’s got left hand air vents , it’s because it’s left hand drive 😂😂😂😂 ps looks a nice ev 👍👍
With Stellantis you get the same tech in different flavors, but that's the issue: they need to Upgrade the tech already.
I’m guessing it’ll be heavily reduced like an Astra to boost the ev target so hopefully cheap on lease end of the year
Too bad it is not coming in the US. Waiting for the electric Guilia or Stelvio.
I love this car but I don’t like the black bit under the lights, if that was body coloured it would look so much better, I think I’ll have to get a black one
the old look was more iconic :(
Bellissima ❤❤❤
lovely wheels
RWD and LFP battery would have made it nearer perfection…
I'm all for rear window wipers however just look at the back of this car, this wiper looks like it destroys the aerodynamics, I don't get why they didn't install the rear wiper under the rear roof tail, with a down swing motion.
Like the Kia ev3.
And how about the smart brabusses? Price range below alfa junior veloce at 428 hp. Otherwise I like your content very much
We loved the sport cars of Alfa Romeo, Alfa was like the Italian Studebaker of the 50th and 60th.
That it can go faster around the corner doesn't make it a hot hatch, more a "hot SUV",
And it is not much different than a Volvo EX30 or a Citroën ë-C3.
Why don’t Alfa do Head Up Displays? I wish they would
Nice looking front, interior and red colour but the rest of it is generic Stellantis.
4:00 This part proofs, that this car is trully italian, and should have a name Milano.
Put the name on the back so everyone can watch from a distance when it goes wrong, being an Alfa who knows what multitude of problems may occur. As Top Gear(OG) covered off on this brand comprehensively many times over.
Alfa have really knocked it out of the park with this; just a shame Ford didn't follow suit & ruined the Capri
It sould be at the side like giulia it looks special
Track focused compact SUV?!
such a shame it's yet another suv rather than a normal hatchback. the car would look so much better if it wasn't on stilts. With how cars have got faster over the years I wouldn't call it a hot hatch anymore, just warm.
Never had an Alpha and although this is a good and informative review I probably will not be buying it. Never going to get 250 miles either.
Wow.. did i see the middle armrest.... Behind the seat???
It’s light because it has a small battery so how far between charging you neglected to tell us .
Imagine I never set foot in Poland but would get a polish passport if I speak with a Polish Accent and pay a company in Poland for organizing it all..
Thats how much Italien 🇮🇹 car this is to me.
Not that it matters
Of all the stellantis stuff, it's the nicest, but still too expensive
It doesnt matter how fun it is to drive , it has a small battery and slow charging and it has the same power as a standard Smart or Volvo and it costs too much , Stellantis has really pulled the wool over the reviewers eyes with this one .
That might matter to you. Others might want a driver's car with decent range and charging which meets 99% of typical driver needs.
@AlanTov It is an Electric Vehicle not a drivers car at all. A form of transport that,s it.
@AlanTov no point being fun to drive with such pitiful range and charging . Same as all Stellantis EVs , not good enough , like the Avenger .
I see a vauxhall bonnet and a Kia ev6 rear
That back bumper & big lip both need to be body coloured
Is this and Hyundai ionic 5N comparable?
I wonder whose batteries they are using on this car.
Alfa Romeo Junior vs Lancia Ypsilon 😃!
How can you compare this to an Ioniq 5N !!!
It's not even a AWD.
in front it looks like previous Renault Captur, from the back it looks like some KIA EVs. SUVs and crossovers could try to look nice, look kinda sporty, be kinda fun, but the fundamentals aren't there. if you know you know.
🤌🤌🤌 starting to speak Italian 😅
Not an Alfa without a proper engine😢
@Petroelhead
Petroelhead said: "The giulietta was a hatchback."
Sorry, but the Alfa Giulietta was never a "hatch back"
When describing the body style, the hatch is counted as a door, therefore a hatchback with two passenger doors is called a three-door or "hatchback".
"Hot hatch" is when that car had a stronger engine.
With four passenger doors it is called a five-door, or possible today a SUV.
The Guilietta was not designed as a 3 door car.
Wrong! All wrong mate. A Hatchback is when you can acess the car from the boot, cargo area. And yes, Giulietta was a hatchback... Even Tesla Model S its a Hatchback
@@reynotleAgree that the Giulietta is a hatchback ( just a five door one rather than three ). The Tesla is more of a saloon in the UK market place. This new Alfa is a small SUV. Not a hot hatch though
@@robsmall6466model 3 is a saloon. Model S is a hatch.
@@garethneal82 Same thing to me 🤷♂️
No kidding! Comparing this Dinky Toy with the brute HP from Hyundia. Who on earth wrote this text? She? Her team?? Not knowing what you say or write is so unprofessional.
These are M4 seats
Edit (-) the Ioniq 5 - N or not - comparison 😅
But it still seems like a really nice little (?) car, amazing really, when you consider that it belongs to a class of cars, which are very easy to dislike; namely compact cross-over/suv type EVs.
an Alfa Romeo Milano..... ooops
OMG - thanks for the review!!! Ford have lost the plot and now have two over priced cars competing for the same market that is all ready over supplied with. No way is it a Capri, the design team need to wake up! 😂
that gear lever is just stupid, you have to push forward to reverse and bagwars to drive forward.
Questa moda di non portare il reggiseno mi piace
Looks like a Kia or anything else we’re tired of seeing. Alfa’s charm is gone
Really? I can’t wait to have one
Those wheels look great, but it will be a pain in the ass to find aftermarket set with that 4 stud setup.
When you said 250 mile range, i lost all interest 😢
