The day he was drafted I was geeked. Brad Holmes FIRST ever draft pick for us. Most people were pissy because it wasn’t a flashy pick. Well folks, that’s how you build a foundation. And now look at us, we’re here baby!

I was shocked he fell all the way to the Lions, thankful he took that covid year off or hed have probably gone top 3.
I'll admit, I wanted Parsons and I would still be happy with him as he's been everything I expected and more. That said, in hindsight, this was clearly the better pick.
Penei is a beast and an incredible leader and he's only 22. Watch his pre game huddle talks to the team. They are epic. Keep in mind that he moved over to the right side of the line due to the Lions already having Taylor Decker on the left side. Penei is extremely versatile and an outstanding athlete . Good Vid.

His run blocking downfield is incredible, I've seen him block 3 guys at once, multiple times. He uses his athleticism to get into position and then unleashes his power violently.
He does it in a way I have only seem Trent Williams do! This man is going to go down as an all time NFL great if he stays healthy
I believe it was against the Vikings on a goal line stand he slammed 3 players to the ground while blocking a 4th and Gibby ran right through the giant hole for 6, unfeckin believable! #OnePride

Penei is a LT playing RT. He’s just that good.
Before his first game, Decker got hurt so the Lions moved Sewell over to LT with no practice. First game was against Nick Bosa. He shut Bosa down at 20 years old.
Playing in Big Games is increasing his popularity but us Lions fans know he’s been top 5 since Day 1 of his rookie year. He is a Future HOF

Brad Holmes first draft pick with the Lions. At #6 he got the Lions an all-Pro lineman. Next year, Aiden Hutchenson, an all-Pro dlineman. Both lines now have anchors for the future.
And then a deep draft class this year!! Holmes is crushing it and he started in the trenches.. Love what he is doing!
You know what's crazy...there was a Lions player from the 50s named Harley Sewell, who played guard for the Lions and was a dominant guard for the them.

As a RT he can pull all the way to the left for run blocking. Incredible span to get across to the opposite side and then run down field blocking for Gibbs. He did it versus SF on a 3rd and 12 blocking to get the 1st down.

I get it the mans is crazy good and I donno if you would count this or not but Trent’s been through way more health and career-wise sure he’ll have to pass the touch but Trent hands down will always be the Best O-Line man in my eyes and one of the best overall footballers ever.

You said him being the top OL " the new King of the Trenches" wasn't due to injury.... yet Trent Williams missed 2 games due to an ankle injury.... he 1st injured it in week 6 against The Browns... he missed the next 2 games... he was listed as doubtful/questionable for multiple games due to that ankle... being a 320 lb man... an ankle injury is a very serious issue....
You right but I was just trying to highlight Penei has fought his way to the top not like Trent Williams has fallen off because of some major injury. I think its fair to assume Williams at 35 will never play another season at 100% though. Penei will likely continue to improve and be an all time great similar to Williams(🐐) in many ways! And at 35 years old, Trent still had Jaguars safety #31 literally turn around and run away from him while lead blocking for CMC this season. Until Sewell puts that kind of fear into a defense, he'll still be #2 to Trent.

That’s a delusional statement, watch the film for yourself. Hutch was double and triple teamed WAYYYY more than bosa. And Bosas sack on penei came off a stunt play where he had to block both people because the guard was double teaming with the center

Decker is a Pro Bowl caliber LT. To have a rookie come in and displace could be seen as a sign of disrespect.
Also, and more likely, is that Sewell's talent is such that there is a net gain by asking him to switch positions rather than Decker.
Sewell has already shown the ability to move BACK OVER to LT in a pinch with NO DROP OFF when Decker was hurt.
To believe Sewell would be worse at LT is just FOOLISH bro.
Trent is awesome and a HOF, it's just at this point in time Sewell has taken that 👑!
