    Thank you so much for making this video! My sister is a talented welder, welding installations for bars and restaurants as well as her own and others' art sculptures. Yesterday she said she wished she had her own machine that could run off a household outlet so I thought I'd take a peak online to see if I could afford one for Christmas and thankfully this one is in my price range and apparently not too bad! If anyone is interested, I made a 3 min film of her welding a beautiful small sculpture on my channel.

    Normally, I don’t like switches on the TIG torch either. But--I bought an extra TIG torch for my welder and bought one of those switches, wire and the plug , which is somewhat harder to find and install, because my ESAB doesn’t use that little connector. I bought this for one purpose. When I spot weld I don’t want to use the variable foot switch. I want to blast the metal. This makes it easy, using the spot weld function of the machine, to time the weld.

    Tim, I bought the 205DS stick welder which might share some internal components with this. From minimum amp to 50A it’s very inaccurate, I had it set to 20-30A with 1/16 6013 and it felt way hotter than that - arc was super bright/violent and burn rate I could not keep up. Above 50A - runs weld with 3/32, so the display seems correct above that. Can you see if you experience the same issue between min-50A? There was another person on Amazon complaining the same problem.

    What torch fitting does it have? Is there a CK superflex torch hose that fits? How flexible is the hose that it came with?

    • @TimWelds
      @TimWelds  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for the question. It has the standard 5/8" gas fitting on the machine that the torch connects to for gas and power. The fitting on the torch end of the cable is one of the smaller ones, probably either 3/8-24 or 1/8-28 BSP, but it's in heat shrink and I can't tell for sure. CK has all of the common combinations, so they probably have one. The stock hose isn't too bad for a rubber hose, so I would start out with that. If you want to upgrade, I would upgrade the whole torch. A 12.5 foot torch/cable can be had from some online retailers for less than $70 www.arc-zone.com/tig-torch-ck-17-rg (I have no affiliation with arc zone or CK). One step further would be the flexible head torch, which is pretty nice. Either way, I'd start out with the stock gear for a while and go from there.

      It’s kind of apples and oranges. This is smaller and less expensive, but is DC only, which makes it better suited to materials like steel. The Primeweld is AC/DC, so it can weld aluminum as well. The primeweld also includes features like pulse and adjustable post flow which will help a lot with stainless steel. The primeweld is bigger and costs 3 times as much.

      It's DC only. For an AC/DC machine look at the Ahp Alphatig. Less than a $1000 but welders like a $2000 machine.

    • @TimWelds
      @TimWelds  Před 3 lety +3

      This machine will only output DC and will work best on steel, stainless steel and some other specialty metals. For aluminum or magnesium, I would recommend getting a machine that can output AC, which will etch the oxide layer off the surface as you weld. (There are some tricks to run aluminum on DC, but I strongly recommend sticking with AC). Capable aluminum TIG machines start in the $700-$800 range, which is quite a bit more than this one, but much less than they used to be.

    With all of these low cost welders, I'd be worried about support after the product is discontinued. Hell, I'd be worried about support while the product still exists as consumables for these things are usually not great to get a hold of. What's even worse and still likely, what do you do when the company doesn't exist anymore? This is where you can't go wrong with a Miller or Hobart or Lincoln, but you pay for that longevity. Still, for me, tools like this aren't the place where you skimp on, but I understand some people just don't care about welding as much as others.

    • @TimWelds

      The 220 breaker is 50 amps, and the 110 is 20 amps. When running an inverter TIG on 110, the input current will be roughly 26 percent of the output current, so on my circuit, I’m maxed out at around 80 amps.

    Rebranded junk! Lookup Keygree welders. Can be had for 150-200 all day online. This one is a rebranded Keygree 250 as far as I can see. I have a error 1 code on display. Units only been used for 30 min since ai bought it...They said out of warranty nothing they can do.. which I get.. however they also would not allow me to talk to support direct, only a call center. They also blocked my email when I tried to ask them about what part needs replacing or what error code meant... Buyer beware. Hope my incident was a fluke. Really liked the welder when it worked but feeling a bit hung out to dry.
