The latest Audi A4 is a heavily facelifted version of the previous model. Significant changes have been made to the car's styling and the interior has been modernised with the introduction of a new touchscreen for the infotainment system, but the way the car drives has remained essentially unchanged. I don't understand when journalists say "The engine is a bit growly when you put your foot down". Isn't that the whole point when you put your foot down? Engine growls and speed?? Personally I love hearing my engine when I put my foot down.
On point. Got the same sentiments here.
I suspect they maybe saying that it is a bit noisy in a rough sort of way rather than a growl from an actual sports car.
I think you really have to be pushing the car to get that sound and feel and most will probably never drive their car like that.
Nothing I hate more than the "iPad bolted to the dashboard" style of info screens. looks temporary and forced
I strongly disagree. These types of screens are best because they are on top of everything and they are directly on your line of sight. I absolutely HATE screens integrated in dashboard which means they are usually down and you have to move your eyes too much from the road, even head sometimes. The info screen should have function over form, not vice versa. I hate screens in A6, A7 and A8. Its like i have to look down to my feet to see something.
Audi before: "We at Audi will never do touchscreens. We designed the MMI system to operate from a control wheel, within easy reach, so that the driver is not distracted, and a far away screen does not need to be smudged."
Audi today: "Look at our new touchscreens!"

Safety reasons. The reversing camera has to be online immediately. A step backwards.
So every other car manufacturer moved on from sticking a giant tablet onto the dash .... oh wait ...

I still find the best looking Audi A4 is B8 before facelift with LED headlights...
I too prefer that model over all the others, it has a simple look that is my taste

Yeah, for first time I can remember Audi took a reasonably good looking car, facelifted it and went backwards in curb appeal and unfortunately I’d have to throw that same shade on the new Q7 facelift, it’s went backwards too.

This would put me off buying this car. I hate the fake vents and exhausts in recent models.

Totally agree-it is what is stopping me replacing my 2009 S4 with its beautiful integrated dashboard with no hideous iPad stuck on top getting in the way of a clear view.Really bad design Audi and a missed opportunity with this facelift to use the good design of the A8 and A6 screens, Also the new S4 being a dirty diesel compared to a silky smooth petroleum V6. In 5 years time this will hammer the trade in value when electric cars have developed more and the recharging infrastructure has improved-hopefully!
I guess I should never watch Audi reviews from here, 😂😂.

Yeah the 2017 redesign looks super classy and had that minimalist aesthetic. This new one looks like garbage.

Audi have lost it. The aesthetics they are churning out right now, combined with the stupid badging and putting diesels in the S range. Someone needs firing!

I don't understand what bothers you about these fake items. They don't have any function on the 2.0tdi engine, it's a base model but with good equipment, and of course they will put those fake extras to make it look more aggressive and better. Who needs a car without fake extras there is RS4.
Audi design is so good on newer models like A6, A7 or Q8, they are the best looking cars on the market.
Why they took the wheel from the onboard computer I will never know. So much harder to use touch screens whilst driving and spoken commands are never very good despite always being sold as the greatest thing ever.
This car journalist sounds like his preferred drink of choice is a Bloody Mary.

Oh how very retro Audi, you bright back bad panel gaps from the 80's with that bonnet!! Next year make them all rust in a week and you'll be on to a winner.
Audi is over complicating its range of cars. Don’t get the 30, 35 and 40 badges. Plus I’m not feeling the facelift on this S line model, it’s too fussy with the vents and scoops. I prefer the pre facelift.
Personally, i dont see the big deal with the new range numbering. If you really want to buy one, you will look for the engine size and power you want
Hamza Hersi It might make sense in European markets where you have a ton of engine options and outputs but it makes no sense in the North American market where the engine choices are more limited.

While the C class to me has the more luxurious look to it I do not get the same sense of solid build quality in the C class as in the A4.

The A4 is too big now, the A3 is closer to the B5 A4 chassis which is what I think is the perfect size vehicle.
I'm not an "executive boat" fan but the A3 is just too small for a saloon.

@@raghuveer4552 Not knocking it as a car, I'm sure it's easy to get around town and park but I just don't think it's big enough for a saloon. A4 is the perfect size, A6 is a bit big and the A8 is just ridiculously big.
The Audi A3 is where the Audi 80 used to be in terms of line out. The A4 is now closer to the Audi 100.

Why on earth does it not have a similar interior design to the A1 and A6? That screen looks hideous and very dated. I was waiting for the A4, hoping it would have a similar interior to the A1 or A6, but after seeing this, I'm not interested in it anymore.

Such a mess. It's like Frankenstein's monster. The original non updated design just looked right, like a perfectly fitting suit. This one looks like someone mixed Checks and Stripes. Hope Audi rectify the design in the all new A4 when that comes along.....and NO fake exhausts PLEASE!

If you're doing long distance then diesel but if you're doing short journeys and live in a city or town where they're looking to ban the dirty engines then I'll say petrol.

I really do hate the German approach to making it look like the infotainment system is an afterthought, tacked on to the dashboard when somebody said "what are we forgetting?" Why don't Audi just get rid of the centre screen completely and just use their cockpit display?

As for saloons the peugeot 508 looks better from outside and,inside and more modern audi.s don't seem to change alot even after face lifts
Those "brake" horse power and their useless Mpg's are highly annoying and used only in UK.
Mpg's i can stand but 'brake' horse power, are horses braking or what !!

That infotainment looks like one of those aftermarket solutions for older cars with no screen. So out of place, it ruins the whole interior.

Ugly. Audi used to make some of the most beautiful cars till a few years ago. Now you get these dated look redesigns.

Not a big fan of the facelift version. I own a B9 pre-facelift A4 and I wish that the screen would retract like other Audi models.
The are still a nice looking car.

That screen looks absolutely ridiculous, looks like someone has come along with a tablet and some superglue and just stuck it on with no regard to how much it wrecks the look of the otherwise pretty nice dash design, just looks hideous, surely if its on every a4 model it could have been incorporated into the dashing in a flowing way. Seems audi design is going backwards, why can't the display fold away like audi have dome in other models previously? Fake leather, fake exhaust, ugly screen, pointless external honeycomb plastic trim, why oh why?

Really stupid move for this facelift given the nice new integrated screens on A8 and A6!

I’d like to know why you think that Audi is stingy for offering only white and black as free paint options. And I’d like to know what cars in this category offer metallic paint as standard....
Offering more paint options makes it more expensive for them to do. By offering just two colors it keeps the cost down. They probably do that in several other areas of the car as well to keep the cost down.
it is the reason you can buy an Audi which is at Mercedes levels of quality for £5000 pound less.

I have an older RS5 and love it and will never get rid of it. Audi are luxury but are not loud about it.
I think for that price Audi A4 is one of the most solid luxury cars out there. A Mercedes C class is more luxurious looking but it simply does not have that quality feel that Audi have.
That i pad screen looks so out of place! Given the price of the car, it looks so cheap looking

Mike Hodgson we tried that and it wasn’t there, I read on a forum it isn’t on 2020 vehicles which seems strange, couldn’t find much information on it anywhere.
Audis designs are getting worse. Fire the lead designer he’s doing terrible job. All the new models look bad

This thing is so ugly and fussy. So many fake vents and lines. Even the interior, which is normally an Audi strong suit, is so bland and cheap looking. Starting to,think the effects of dieselgate and its costs are starting to show on its products
