You have got it to 100% perfection, however is not for me hahahaha, If you release this same preset "clean" without the color bleed and shimmering and I am all in :D
This is SO REAL. I'm perplexed, it's the first video I see on composite direct capture where CZcams on 1080p quality on my 1080p screen just looks straight up like a CRT being filmed properly. You're a freaking wizard, Harry, I mean, Retro Crisis! My only barely related nitpick is it being an Aperture Grille mask, not shadow or slot mask, it lacks a bit of the more popular masks blending effect, it's too orderly by the nature of the very mask. Wow, if you can do this composite effect and feel inclined to do so on another type of mask, please do. To give you an idea of how great I think your achievement is, I can easily show this video for people outside the CRT hobby and they too can be surprised of the faithful recreation, your sorcery.
I’ve been working on an NES composite to RGB AI model lately, so I’ve been looking at a fair bit lately. You might get something like what you see here if the TV has a really good comb filter, but having used some of the same games as this video, I would expect to see more color fringing, shimmer, and also there are some differences (positional jitter?) between the even and odd fields. Admittedly, this is based on my digital captures, so the appearance might be different on an actual CRT.
Wow that's an honour - if you get a chance, check out Sonkun (czcams.com/video/rEcUOEK8j3c/video.html) and CyberLab (czcams.com/video/qhjXeo6e44Q/video.html) - both my influences!
Got it and using it now on my Retroid Pocket, it's gorgeous. Was wanting a shader like this for a hot minute, just looking at it reminds me of how it looked when i was a kid playing NES at night. Thank you for your work 🔥
Realistic shaders and accuracy is what I appreciate, especially composite where dithering gets proper blending for the transparency effects etc. Good stuff here.
appreciate your work and guest's work as well, just tried this today, really like the grid appearance versus other shaders with scanlines which i like but sometimes are a bit too pronounced, this gives a nice dithered appearance that is smooth on gradations in any direction, especially for logos which can be solid colours which i dont feel have "tracks" running through them as scanlines with this, they look smoothed in a perfectly CRT way, thanks for all your work again, appreciate you, cheers !! 😎😎💎💎
Those constantly jittering fringes and the occasional random green, red or blue phosphor popping out on edges are what really sells it. This is probably the most authentic recreation of what gaming on an old TV looked like.
@@RetroCrisis I'm gonna have to test it out for myself, maybe I was too quick to judge simply based on watching this video. I'll get back to you with my "findings" but simply based on the video, I'd say it's the reds like in the Batman game with the bricks.
@RetroCrisis Samsung Galaxy Tab A. It's running Android 14. This version is outdated as of this year, as I've heard that Android 15 has been made. The tablet I'm currently using is still good for another couple of years, so I'm good for now.

Yes yes yes yes yes YES YES YESYESYESYESYSEYSYESYESEYSYE!!!!!!!!!!!11111oneoneonetwo Dude this is what I am talking aboooooout. This looks amazing, you always outdo yourself I swear to god.
Have you ever heard of RetroBat? It uses Retroarch as a base I think, but I can't get your shaders to work in it... can you check that out and maybe make a howto video for it?
I don't think you need anything too powerful. Ideally a GPU that supports the latest version of Vulkan, I personally use an RTX2060 and a Ryzen 4400 - but that's probably overkill to be honest.
Depends on how accurate you want things to be. One big part, for me at least, that requires some extra horsepower is being able to run the games in 120hz to enable Black Frame Insertion to combat the poor motion resolution of digital displays at 60hz.
You pushed the authenticity angle so far you played the PAL versions of those games at PAL speeds haha. Some things you don't miss about that time, yet they're still weirdly nostalgic, eh?
But this doesn´t look like composite video. Where is the dot crawl?, what happend to the jagged/fuzzy lines? It looks more like component or rgb on a crt but not composite.
@@jsr734 as all CRTs aren't made the same, results may vary. But this preset is made to mimic my personal Trinitron composite setup. Jaggies and fuzzies all match up.
@@RetroCrisis I understand. I take your word then. I myself have seen some great looking Trinitrons and i know Trinitrons can make composite to look as good as component or rgb on a cheaper tv.
@@jsr734try this with Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania is you get a chance. Those 2 especially show a lot of crawl and fuzzies. I should have included them in the demo.

I can appreciate the realistic application of curvature. Just a dash where it's needed and horizontal and vertical lines still very much look straight. Great job instead of that disgraceful fishbowl effect that says "look at me I'm playing on a CRT because the graphics are all bendy"😂
@@CyberLabStudio haha I finally got around to taking your advice. I must admit you were totally right!! 🤣 Went back and adjusted the curvature of all my previous presets to match

This LOOKS GOOD
I love the transition you’ve made from covering these type of shaders to making them yourself. Keep up the good work!
Thanks dude! This shader world a bit of a black hole - once you fall in, there's no coming back!!
As someone who regularly plays on a NES via composite on a CRT, this looks absolutely fantastic.

The nice thing about the shader this preset is build on is you can swap the CRT Mask to a different style. I'm much more partial to Slot-Mask myself
Disgusting? Disgustingly beautiful.
Haha I'm guessing you're also from the ancient times?
Hail to the king of realistic TV shaders !
I can just look at this all day long. It's a work of freaking art!
Honestly, I'm using this preset for everything I can. This is perfect.

I hope they look good when you're using them

very impressive , i hope we can have something near this shader in the ossc in the future.
i am going to install it asap.
You need to do one inspired by regular old cheap TVs we had back in the day. Nobody had a Triniton back then
I'm hoping to have an RF one out too

It needs some more ntsc dithering, the colours are not blending with one another enough

Might want to put up an epilepsy disclaimer at the beginning tho 💀

would you make a SNES Composite 100 next? That seems like something logical to do.
