If its at all possible, you should get a plug in that puts a sign above the cheater that says "Im a Big Stinky Cheater" and just follows them everywhere

I can't tell you how much we appreciate you going to bat for us, and exposing how shit the facepunch response is, at the risk of putting yourself on the outs with them.
The developers of Easy Anti Cheat should do something, not Facepunch. Also the only company that is doing something against cheat developers is Bungie.
Its EACs job to ban cheaters not facepunch.
@@sayonarax2004 They are both responsible and they both have to work together. Facepunch has an incentive to allow cheaters because they still buy the game and add to player numbers. EAC has incentive to cut costs on their systems because it means more profit. Players have to push both to work properly together, we are the only group that really loses.

its not just EAC's job. EAC is a company that gives a very simple solution to the majority of cheats. That does not mean there are other methods. EAC is a choice that developers choose to use because its cheap and works for the most part. Its not EAC's job to go above and beyond to provide the best anti cheat they are actually know for being mid asf but being affordable. The contract you take with EAC is very simple basically states what they do word for word. Rust made the choice to go into investment with EAC despite the shitty service because its cheap, in other words.....its NOT eac's fault, they are doing exactly what there contract says to do, its Facepunch. @@TheAtomoh
You're the law and order for Rust. EAC should be backing you and all the admins up to keep the game clean and enjoyable for all players. It would benefit the game if they were more responsive.
no there job, devs job. EAC's only job is to detect a specific kind of background software cheat, which fixes most cheat methods. They do not offer services in the .Dll file injection categories which are exactly what most cheats you see in the videos are. Manual game bans are issued by developers. EAC provides a contract of what they do and its cheap. In fact its the cheapest anti cheat out there because they do so little. its like going to mc donalds and expecting to get a 5 course steak dinner
@@jestershyper you do not know what you are talking about lol, its a kernel level anticheat with the goal to prevent any client side manipulation of the game be it dll injection or direct memory access from physical/kernel, so for stuff like the db spamming shots etc they will first have to bypass the client side anticheat (eac) and then the serverside (which does not seem to be there at all which is probably why stupid shit like that works). there are not really many better options its just that eac or rust doesnt go as hard on cheaters as they should (temp banning etc)
tldr: rust devs should invest into implementing a good server side anticheat that would help alot

Cheater's are farming us, Facepunch is farming Cheaters, and Camomo is farming cheater accounts. Camomo is the real mvp, but the ones making the money is facepunch

Or a very well known and well trusted admin for a community server being able to ban malicious cheaters off RUST instead of just minor inconvenience to them leaving that one server to cheat on another one.
You should use that teleport command to trick people into thinking they're rubber banding like just keep pulling em back a little bit at a time when they try to run somewhere. Keep up the good work man hopefully eac can get with the program sometime soon.
He's done this exact thing, not with cheaters but in an admin abuse. There was this group and he kept teleporting them backwards. Lol

On Facepunch owned servers there are no Admins at all. On occasion a paid Facepunch dev will join and ban cheaters but that is very very rare. I would stay away from any Facepunch server unless you enjoy 70% of the player base cheating

The problem is inherit to Unity game engine. The Unity engine trusts the client way too much, include things like animation and physics. The Source engine for example does not trust the client with physics or animations. But due to lag compensation it does share the random seed, which is why you have things like no-spread in Source engine.

Although, anarchyHD actually stopped adminning for servers that were taking money from cheaters to unban them (anything owned by cyanotic / the sunnyvale server group), and in the process lost a lot of content out of it. Totally stood by his morals and gets mad respect for that.

People that cheat can't handle the fact that they suck at the game, and think cheating makes them "Good" at the game when it doesn't.
people that cheat in multiplayer and online games, yes. I use cheats extensively and exclusively in singleplayer games because I want to experience the game not a challenge. I fully admit that I'm shit at games, but I'm not inflicting that on anyone else.

I have NEVER understood, how a Anti-Cheat can be so bad, to the point it's unable to detect when someone is litteraly exceding certain GAME LIMITATIONS, like being Faster , then you could possible ever be, or shoot your weapon 100000x faster then what is limited by the GAME CODE! It's absurd.

They patch little bugs or out of map glitches in some hours but can't patch any hacks in years, that's crazy
It always comes down to the money. If cheaters get banned, they will lose their player base. Sadly, people will get tired of the cheating and stop playing altogether. This game takes a lot of grinding and hours of playtime. All for some cheater to come along and ruin it. I thought about playing Rust until I saw all the cheaters in content creator's videos.
If you are worried about cheaters then play PVE with no PVP servers. Usually zombies/bosses/raidable bases, etc. You get everything available on official servers but none of the toxic PVP. If there are cheaters they have no effect on you. You can build in comfort and peace, as stylish as you want, and learn and understand game mechanics at your own pace. Usually the last day of the wipe is a PVP session where everyone goes around and blows everything up, but you've had a good time prepping without conflict until then.
@@MrKingglenn I play PvE because I have a job, which means sometimes I can't play for 24-36 hrs. In vanilla this means all your stuff gets destroyed by people who don't have to leave the house.
@ericconnor8419 same here, it's actually quite relaxing to boot up rust after a day of stacking shelves, listen to some music and unwind. I just have no need for the adrenaline packed PvP.

It's largely why I stopped playing PC. I played sea of thieves and warzone on PC but cheating was so horrible I moved to console. Turning crossplay off was the best choice I ever made.

Seems like it would be easy to code anti-cheat to detect things that are impossible to do without cheating. Their inputs probably look crazy compared to playing the game normally.
Appreciate the effort Camomo. I ran and admin'd a small server for awhile. Cheaters would come in, I would watch them, report them, and they would never get banned. Just got so sickening I gave up on the server.
The worst thing of all of this, is they think they just have the right to cheat like this.
If you go onto cheating forums, when places take action against cheaters they start screaming about suing and all other kinds of shit.
Its a self entitled mindset, that their fun comes above everything else.

Man I really need to get into Rust... I'm not one for shooters and this game seems very rough to get into for a solo. But man your work makes me want to pick it up every video I seen. One day I'll hopefully see you. Good terms don't worry :)
I personally wouldn’t recommend this game in it’s current state. It will keep you on your ass for way too long if you really want to achieve something in the game, and the gunplay is definitely not great with the aim cone RNG becoming more and more inconsistent with each update, and the cheating has been getting worse.
there are plenty of modded servers that dont have cheaters (or very little) do some vanilla pve to start off with then transition to pvp
As the guy bellow said, you can start on pve servers in the "Modded" section. You can fight npcs or buy npc bases to raid and other cool plugins.
@@Beyondlimits_400 My only issue would really be the cheating and first getting into it. One issue can be solved by playing on a server Camomo admin's for. At least we know people are looking at cheaters there, much more then what any other gaming company seems to be doing.
I mean the shooting part really isn't an issue for me, I use to play Halo 3 all day every day on my rank 50s. It's more the building/crafting stuff that seems harder to grasp. I should of said "I'm not one for shooters much anymore". Just played MMO's for a while now.

I believe there are perceived financial incentives for developers to allow a certain amount of cheaters. I think it's likely that many games could easily do better with anti-cheat but choose not to.
Sadly cheating is a billion dollar business and it’s rampant. It completely ruins the game. That’s why I switched to console, there’s just WAY too many cheaters on PC. Totally RUINS THE experience. I HATE cheaters

Camomo, do you have a ban list that you can make public? Surely this would allow server owners everywhere to blacklist these cheaters and relegate them to Facepunch servers? Perhaps working with a modder who can make an easy-to-install Camomo Blacklist Mod that server owners can use based on such a list?

But just know that we do appreciate you doing everything you can even though you’re not getting the support from EAC you need. Thank you again Camomo
its not EAC's job to catch every single cheater lol. They do the bare minimum because facepunch pays the bare minimum. People dont understand EAC provides very minimal protection for a very minimal price.

I'll answer that for you Camomo: The reason they keep giving them the chance is because there is the chance that they will pay for a new copy of the game from a different steam account. There is the potential to make more money, and that always screws over the honest customers when they have no fear that it will affect their bottom line. If Rust players banned together and refused to play until the problem was resolved, the players would have all the power, but because they're addicted, corporations don't speak logic. They speak $$$.

Facepunch should do something about people making new accounts after already been game banned, but if your account gets hacked they should do something about it because sometimes its not even your fault if you can prove it has been hacked. Happened to me and now I cant play rust anymore, I don't understand why they can do it like EA does, my whole steam account got banned and I got unbanned everywhere except rust. Ruined my experience after I enyoyed the game a whole lot. Also great vid Camomo ty for taking care of the cheaters

My last wipe on a Facepunch Official Server (EU Facepunch 7) resulted in two Cheaters raiding every base around, having unlimited MLRS and Rockets, reporting them didnt get them banned. I even asked Devs for help, wrote a support ticket, nothing. I just received a ban notice for ONE of them 5 !!! days later. The other one is STILL not banned. EAC is just a fucking joke and the reasons for Facepunch defending this anti cheat are beyond my imagination.
Its not like Rust is a round based game where you simply and quickly start all over. You fucking loose days of progression, if playing on a monthly server.
Another example: Players can teleport into tugboats right now (noclip into the tugboat and then mount the steering wheel) - without getting instantly banned. Spiderman is still a thing after all the years. Debug camera (noclip into bases). Stash ESP. Its just pathetic and the only reason Facepunch doesnt give a fuck is because it helps sales.
There is no reason to not tighten the games security mechanisms and anti cheat protection.Also that EAC is not instantly banning people because "the anticheat does not want to show the cheater what makes it detect the cheat" is a fucking joke. EAC is years behind cheat developers. Dont pretend to be anywhere close to the top of the hill.
I'm so fed up with Facepunch in regards of cheating and anti cheat that this topic triggers me beyond anything else in this game. I dont know any other dev studio which gives such a flying fuck about cheaters.

Hello Camomo. Appreciate for your video for keep any cheaters away from honest player. I have not played Rust yet but I want to suggest somethings for handling the cheaters. Instead ban them from the game, why don't you make them play with super hard limitation like my suggestion below
1. How about add a feature skin like Balloon text above their head that Says "Cheater". This one can only appear after Admin set it and it can be removed by admin or until when you set it (ex : you set it for 1 month/720 hours in game time). If this feature is set, the avatar can use any head gear but "cheater" sign will not gone. This might need optional accessory option that can be filled by admins and can not be accessed by players
2. This is 2 options due to it will be hard to test and complicated to test the feature
a) How about make a feature that Every hit/shot they make using any weapon, The damage is always 1 or 0. This will make them hard to kill anyone even the naked. The turret might not need to be restricted with this feature
b) How about make them can only use low melee weapon? If they want to use the range weapon like AK or Bow, the weapon will automatically drop to the ground. This one also include the trap like landmine
3. Make every farming they do like farming stone, wood, sulfur, etc, they only get 1 from it. This way will make them hard to catch up with other players
Note :
1. These suggestions are for the cheaters that use cheat no fall damage or they know players position etc.
2. For the exploit issue cheater, I'll let you decide
3. Hopefully, if you set all 3 of those restriction to them, they will quit the game by themself.
4. I hope my suggestions can help you and the Rust community play honest

Would loading your inventory up with node or barrel loot help sell the ESP-bait? Pretty sure most cheaters can see your inventory nowadays, and having unrealistic amounts of C4 or non-functioning kits may tip them off.
I cannot remember where I read it, on medium somewhere where a dev said that cheaters are a significant amount of on going sales; Like 10%+ of the last 3 games the dev worked on. With games like rust I imagine his higher. There is no financial incentive to ban them quickly.

Great video. Rust and I have a love and hate relationship. I love to play the game but hate the cheating. I typically drop the game for a few months come back and see if anything changed. Nothing ever changes.
12:00 I do a lot of software development, and used to (about 5 years ago) do game development, and from what I understand EAC is mostly heuristic based and generically checks for things that are "sus" like lots of repetitive network packets, strange changes in player position, etc. and VAC just straight up checks for hashes of known cheats, modifications to the Rust shared objects, etc.
The problem with a heuristic approach is they usually give a certainty of cheating instead of a true false response like VAC does, they probably have a section where 10% chance gets you kicked (think about the regular flyhack violation kicks that Rust players get), 50% chance you get a 3-day temp-ban, and over a 99% chance you get banned outright (these numbers are made up). I'm assuming this is why EAC does the temp-bans is that there may be a very low chance of falsely banning someone based on their system processes, etc. Imagine if EAC outright banned you for a flyhack violation (which used to happen quite frequently to regular players). The cheat itself could even be messing with EAC causing what would normally be a ban to becoming a temp-ban.
I have over 2000 hours of Rust, I've never got a temp-ban, or regular ban from either a server or EAC, despite even having some "sus" programs (in order of "sussness") like CheatEngine, AutoHotkey, pyproxy, Wireshark, VS+Unity, IDA, etc. I'm assuming EAC does the temp-bans as that there may be a very low chance of falsely banning someone based on their system processes, network performance, etc. Any of the listed tools used on Rust would award you an instant VAC ban as the tools mentioned do nothing (and aren't intended) to prevent detection since they are software development tools and not actual cheats.
I'm surprised no aspiring technically literate server owners have gotten together to write a simple proxy tool that sits between the Rust server and Rust clients and monitors network traffic to detect and ban cheaters, I doubt it would be that hard, especially with the obvious ones like the removed fire rate limit, These are probably just simple cases of spamming the server with a "Player fire packet". I wouldn't mind making one myself but there's no way of effectively testing it.
yeah, i remember playing for 18 hours on bp wipe, cheaters decided to build next to me, died a couple times and quit the wipe, really fun game, 7 days before they got banned
