YouTube Shorts are helping my channel. TikTok is hurting my soul. 🤣

- I watch a lot of CZcams experts who give advice on how to grow your channel, and all of them recommend using CZcams Shorts. In case you're not familiar, Shorts are vertical videos, less than a minute each, that you swipe through and get an endless feed of short-form content. It's TikTok built inside of the normal CZcams app. And because they're trying to compete with TikTok, they're prioritizing this format, showing it to a ton of people, and giving smaller creators more visibility to a wider audience.
So I've been creating and uploading Shorts to this channel, and it actually has been helping. I've been getting thousands of views more than usual, and my subscriber count has been going up slowly but surely. I've been creating dumb little videos remixing content from some of my older videos, as well as brand-new stuff.
I thought to myself, I already have these vertical videos created, and I do have a TikTok account... why don't I experiment and post these over there as well? I've already done the work. What's the worst that could happen? 💩
As far as views go, it's been completely unpredictable. On CZcams, I average between 1000-3000 views. On TikTok, they hover between 500 and 1000. EXCEPT there's one video I made about the TV show "Family Matters" and how weird it got. On CZcams, it got 47 views. On TikTok? 113,000. I don't get it. That was kind of exciting at first, but with that exposure came a lot of comments, both on this video and my subsequent videos there.
Now, the comments I get on my CZcams videos are usually pretty supportive. "Thank you; I've been saying this forever." "Love the content... keep going." "Exactly; yes!" "Laughing emojis."
For the exact same clip on TikTok? "Cool story, bro. Yawn emoji." "There must be something wrong with you if you think this." "Skull and crossbones emojis?" Is that like a death threat?
I know that, as humans, we gravitate toward the negative. You can hear 99 positive things about yourself and 1 negative, and somehow the 1 negative is all you can hear and will outweigh everything else.
But it feels like the TikTok comments are way more likely to be negative than anywhere else, and I'm not sure why that is. Maybe because the user base skews younger, and my Gen X humor is lost on that crowd? I tried using hashtags to indicate that I'm old, and this is meant for older people, like #oldertiktok and #genxtiktokers, and I even say in my bio, "If you weren't alive in the '80s or '90s, you probably won't like anything I post."
I just don't understand taking the time to comment on something you don't like instead of swiping away to the next video. That feels counterintuitive. You're going out of your way to state that you don't like it. Although I have watched entire seasons of TV shows that I don't care for to try and understand why I don't like it. Is that what the kids call a "toxic trait?" Am I part of the problem? Probably not, 'cause I don't write to Lena Dunham and say, "I don't understand why people say this show is good!" "Thumbs-down emoji."
Here on CZcams, I think the people who watch my channel are a lot closer to my age, so I'll ask you this -- do you use TikTok at all? And if you do, do you feel like it's way less friendly than CZcams and other platforms you're on? Let me know in the comments below.
Part of me wants to delete TikTok and just use CZcams Shorts for short-form entertainment, but there's one TikTok in every thousand or so that I scroll through that makes me laugh so hard I can't breathe.

I should be at 2,000 subs on CZcams in next few months and without putting in nearly as much work as I should have. Tiktok, you need to post a lot and being 40, it’s just not viable with 2 kids and a full time job. I post my best videos on there but mostly just for the hell of it. 109 followers and I’m not getting any traction like I have with youtube
Congrats on nearly 2000 subs; that’s great! What my experience has been with TikTok is that I can get a ton of views on something pretty easily, but that doesn’t translate to followers or anything tangible, and therefore it feels like views are far less meaningful than on CZcams where you can create a better community/relationship with your viewers.
I have a lot of social media accounts … tick tock is a lottery no matter how consistent it’s random roll of dice but fast results , YT Shorts effort and consistency with and patience brings u more eyes overall I feel more valuable than tik tok - tik tok is fleeting and causes us to have less of a attention span…. I would finish that thought but I forgot what I was gonna say next ….theses freaking distractiion Devices or Anti Attention devices are really changing the game but the future of wearable technology will eventually make vertical king again I truly believe that … awesome video Bran Don Jaun

I just joined TikTok for a business I started and the views are all over the place. It's easy to use, but I find most of the users /content to be strange and overall the vibe is off. I'm 40 and it's just too chaotic for me lol. It's a tough call because I know I definitely got some sales from TikTok. I prefer CZcams tho so I am thinking about starting a channel! Anyways thanks for starting your channel and helping us out!!!
Shorts have helped my channel a lot. I post my shorts, on TikTok and CZcams reels.
I definitely like CZcams more though.
Same -- I get more excited about 1,000 views on CZcams than 10,000 views on TikTok!
😂 “pondering scarf” but also: I have a friend who does social media who suggested I get on TikTok but my youngest has half-jokingly threatened that if I get a TikTok then she should get one too (she just turned 13). So, anyway, it’s super interesting to hear about your experience over there.
Maybe there’s a robust writing community on there that you’d connect with, but it doesn’t seem rife with thoughtfulness as a whole. I doubt you’re missing much!

Negative comments are still impressions right? I say keep firing them off to TiklTok and pay less attention to the comments over there.
Not only do they contribute to views, the comments are a positive signal to the algorithm, prompting TikTok to show it to more people. So they do actually help. 💁🏻♂️
