      @@QueenofQuirk was it easy to find accommodation, did the your own College/University help or did Trinity arrange it? What kind of courses and modules did you take? Did you get into every module you wanted? How is studying there? Is it stressful? How many assignments did/do you have? Was there like a "introduction week" for international students? And of course how is your life outside uni? How did you meet new people and friends? You don't have to answer all the questions obviously, but answering some would be super helpful!

    Thank you so much for these videos they're really helpful! I just got accepted into the Dual BA program between Trinity and Columbia and I was wondering if you could answer any of my questions? I don't know anyone else who goes there and the structure at trinity seems to be very different from what I'm used to with American universities.
    What are the different terms? On the calendar I noticed Michaelmas, Hilary and Trinity terms
    What is a reading week?
    In your video you mentioned tutorials. Are those different from lectures or classes?
    As a dual BA student do you feel separated or are you generally treated like a regular Trinity student
    Are you taking any classes outside your major?
    I'd also love to hear more about your experience in general if you have anything else you want to add!

    • @QueenofQuirk
      @QueenofQuirk  Před 4 lety

      Hey Kylie!! Congrats! So delighted you got accepted. And of course! So basically the Michaelmas term is the fall term, from September to December, Hilary is spring term from January to April (each 12 weeks) and trinity term is kind of exam season really and you don’t have to be in Dublin for all of it, just when your exams are on. Here’s the academic calendar if it helps! www.tcd.ie/calendar/academic-year-structure/academic-year-structure.pdf if you can’t access that then just google trinity academic structure. A reading week is a study week, a week where no classes are on. It’s seen by trinity as chance to catch up on reading, assignments and work, but sometimes for many students it’s a great chance to relax in the middle of term or to travel (like I did haha!) Tutorials are different to lectures yes. If you ever see me in this video in a big room, that’s a lecture hall, but tutorials take place in smaller classrooms (like on Tuesday in this video I’m with my friends Gelsey and Brian in a small room) in a class between 10 students (that depends on the course but that’s the average for english lit) and a teaching assistant, and it’s a chance to engage in discussion and class work. Outside my major I take electives which I have used to transfer credits for core classes in Columbia, handy since there’s a lot to complete over four years. Again it depends on your course what electives you can do but it should be possible. What course did you go for? If you have any more questions let me know!

    • @QueenofQuirk
      @QueenofQuirk  Před 4 lety +1

      Sorry I didn’t see the questions about feeling separated: honestly, I sometimes forgot I was a dual BA student, and not in a bad way! For me, I really found myself stuck into trinity life and felt like a true trinity student. I think the pressure of being in each college for two years only makes you appreciative of your time there and willing to do more in a short amount of time. Unfortunately for me my time was cut short due to the pandemic, but I am so happy with my experience at trinity. I’m friends with people both outside and inside the program, which is great, and met people from my own course and from societies and grew my circles in that way. I recommend to you to get stuck in and make the most of your time at Trinity, but also remember that you don’t have to do it all to make the most of it, find what you love and go with it. Maybe even just socialising and academics is for you! For me, I loved Players, the drama society, and Trinity News, and got involved there. But yeah I definitely didn’t feel different as a Dual BA student. I am an Irish student though, but if I was international I also would fit into to student culture very well because trinity is a very international cohort!

    Hello! I am interested in doing this degree at trinity and I am wondering what A levels you did and what grades did you get?

    • @QueenofQuirk
      @QueenofQuirk  Před rokem

      Hi! Sorry for the late reply. I am from Ireland so I did the Leaving Certificate (LC) exams, not A Levels. Subject choice and individual grades for each subject are not as important for uni entry as the entry depends on overall points scored from all my LC exams. For English Studies, though, you do need a minimum of a H3, I think, when it comes to the LC. If you're doing A Levels, that probably means you're applying though the CAO, and there should info online from Trinity or the CAO site on what grades and subjects are needed for entry.

      Riely Bellamy it depends on your degree! I study English so my lectures are not compulsory and my tutorials are. I go to as much lectures as I can anyway as I don’t have as much hours as let’s say a science student would have. It really does depend on your course, I know some people have to sign their name once they go to a lecture.
