In April 2021, I spent 3 weeks in Madeira, where I cycled around the island and hiked accross the mountains. From this experience, I thought about a few things I wish I had known before going that would have allowed me to enjoy the experience quicker (cycling in Madeira is not a great idea)! With the rise in people planning to go to Portugal and Madeira this summer, I thought that other people could find these recommendations useful!

Good tip about the markets
Thank you! I learnt it the hard way! I ended up paying way to much for a bag of fruits that tasted at home very different from what I tried at the market. Basically not all bad but a lot of scams.
This video is a gem! Thank you so much. One suggestion -- I loved it when you mentioned a place and also showed the spelling and pointed it on the map. As a non-Portuguese-speaking person, I sometimes struggle with how a word is spelled. Otherwise, everything else is perfect. Direct to the point with no unnecessary b-roll footages.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Love the video yes more on Madeira
I always hear about Funchal I’d love more information in the smaller cities there
I will try to do more in coming months! It is just a bit hard to keep up with the other formats ;)
We have been to Madeira 4 years ago and LOVED the food sooo much but to each his own
Definitely! Really down to personnal preferences! And as i mentioned i was not seeking the best restaurants either so i may have missed the best spots too!
Thanks a lot for posting this video. My wife an I will be visiting Madeira in March and this information is very helpful. Cheers.
Great suggestions, thank you so much!
Excellent video! I pride myself on my geography, but I will have to admit I did not know Madeira existed...
Haha it is often the case with the Portuguese islands. In a way, that's what preserved them until now. Amazing places
tjank you for the nice tips!
My pleasure!
Great guide.
Thank you! I am working on a similar video on the Azores. Hopefully it will be as useful!
Heading to Madeira on Friday. Thanks for the tips dude 👍
Great! Hope you will like it!
Obrigado. I hope to visit Madeira soon.
I hope you will! it's a great place! Let me know if you do if the recommendations were useful!
Very interesting information. I going soon there. I hope I use yours advice.
Thank you! I hope it will be useful!
I would love a video of the best photography places in madeira!! This video was really helpful, im going to Madeira in a week so thankyou soo much ! :)
Thank you very much! So glad you found it helpful! I am not sure i will be able to do the video before you go there but a few recommendations: pico do arieiro, caldeirao verde, ponta de sao laurenço, sao vicente, janela
I have also posted a few pictures on my instagram that should give you already a few ideas: floriancroise
Check out google Earth.
There it will show all the lookout spots.
Thank you for the video and for making me "home"sick.
There are, in fact, two places you can visit for swimming, apart from the volcanic swimming pools in Porto Moniz: they are the beaches in Seixal (with nice waves) and in Calheta, a beach that was built with sand from Morocco and which is also suitable for younger children. Calheta also is the location of a distillery of rum - a stronger alternative to the typical Madeira wine.
Overall, Madeira is a wonderful place to visit and your video shows just that!
Thanks you! Happy i was not too much off mark! Thanks for adding to the picture there! I am sure people will find it useful!
I want to goto madeira, for a month or two ,pensioner from London on a tight budget, what’s cheapest rooms cost please
Now i am even more excited to go to madeira in two days 😍 thanks for this video and tips 🙏
Hope you will enjoy it! Definitely try one of the following 3 hikes: pico do arieiro, ponta de sao laurenço and levada do caldeirao verde! Enoy the bananas and the wine :)
Thanks mate I really appreciate your video. I like your honest review and chilled attitude.
In regards to the hiking Pico do Areiro to Pico Ruivo, how long does it takes is it double for non professional hikers and what do you suggest? To go there with taxi and then get another taxi from the other end? Thanks
Hi! Thanks for your feedback! I may be wrong as it starts to date a bit but 3-4h one way is what is usually advised. I think I have done the return trip in 8h but I am not the best hiker (as far away from a professional hiker as you can get ;).
Up to you if you want to do a one way or a return trip. Both must be cool. It may get a bit expensive and complicated to get taxis on both ends but doable! There are also companies that organise the logistics so it may be easier.
Did you get taxis, any v cheap places to sleep can u recommend

Good work. Would like some more info on using the buses to get around, all the tourists driving around will ruin the fragile environment. If we tourist use the buses, they will get better bus service.
Hi Linda,
Unfortunately from what I saw, there are a few buses but they would not allow you to reach the most interesting places on the island. They mostly connect the cities together. I personnaly cycled for a week there which is more environment friendly but I cannot really recommend it if you are not a very good cyclist (which am not). It is really difficult and reaching these same spots would be pure torture as they are at a high elevation.
@@Seedsofdiscovery There are buses, quite cheap good routes and run frequently. There are city buses with day passes for €5 and intercity buses with a €8 day pass. Most buses run every 30 minutes or more often. Way better to do Levada or walks at your own pace and having a higher enviromental impact.
@@shinnam Thank you for the additional details! Definitely is useful! Buses are definitely good if you want to visit the towns. Depending on which hikes you want to do it will be more or less easy: levada do rei has a bus that goes near by but pico do arieiro if I remember well doesn't for example. This website is quite good to check how to get to the different places: www.madeira-portugal.guide/from-pico-arieiro-to-pico-ruivo/
Você não conheceu quase nada da ilha...
Your accent sounds French
