The complete player.
If he had gone for the goal more often, maybe. Brilliant shot, would pass on a shootout.
@@mattihp theres this move called "The Forsberg" which he did in a shootout. Look it up
@@Tyce3823 yeah, the Kenta Nilsson. How a player of Forabeeg's calibre never scored 40 goals is weird..
@@mattihp because
@@mattihp His shot was pretty mediocre by NHL standards. He just willed his way to goals
Imagine if Forsberg had played in any other era. He peaked during the absolute hardest time to score points and still put up PPG in line with Gretzky and Lemieux. He reverse-hit people like nobody else. His +/- was insane. The most complete player ever, no question. Forsberg did it all, usually with 2 players hanging off him.
But he payed the price for that era. That era was also so physical and it took a toll on a lot of players, such as Forsberg. I cringe every time I watch Forsberg highlights, for example that amazing lob pass to Blake, Blake get an insanely stupid slash to his hand/arm and the referee doesn't even react. That was the norm back then and the reason so many great players never got to play as much as they should've.
If not for the injuries, brilliant player
@@Lindeni Yeah, like Lindros, Kariya etc. Combine speed and power in this ear with this sticking, crosschecking and other stuff and you get lot of head injuries etc.
Calling him “the most complete player ever, no question” makes you sound like a massive homer
@@MD-ds6ig A massive homer, huh?
Try not drooling on the keyboard when you talk.
I'm a Kings fan. I remember the first time I saw Forsberg play agains LA at Staples. I had heard about him but didn't know how good he was. I had never seen a player completely dominate a game in every way. Offense, defense, physically, finesse. Kings fans around me were in awe. I was a huge fan of his ever since.
Peter Forsberg is still my favorite player his skills as a hockey player is just amazing his quickness his ability to stay focus in every game I just love this man
Currently 4th all-time in assist/game behind Wayne, Mario and Orr. If he played in a different era he might be higher on the list. Magician with his stick, a dancer on his skates and a bulldozer with an attitude. The best I ever saw.
If he'd played longer...
@@The-Dom To many injures
And he played during the clutch and grab era, the most destructive era in nhl history
@@The-Dom he would have played longer in a different era...wouldnt have had same amount of injuries to his body.
@@kallebaah0 i remembered crying when i saw Derian Hatcher cross-cheked him TO the ice...imagine the power of the hit to take down a mountain like Forsberg.
What a beast. Very rare to see a player go through Lidstrom like that
Forsberg walked Lidstrom and Chelios on the same play in the 2000 playoffs
"So how strong do you wanna be on the puck?"
Forsberg: Yes
how long do you hold on to the puck? -yes
Loved forsberg. The man was a savage. He really opened my eyes that European players could also be bad ass. He could hit, pass, score, and wasn't above playing dirty now and then. Also super high pain threshold. I think his pain tolerance was on par with a cadaver. I think Forsberg and Wendel Clark are 2 of my favorites.
To me Foppa was the most exciting hockey player ever. He combined skill and strenght in an absolutely unique fashion. He could just dominate games.
he would take the puck and we knew something will be create within 5 seconds always always
#5 is my #1 I can't watch that goal enough. He had the full package of grit, strength, skill and hockey IQ like no other and this play is a brilliant example of that.
And it was part of a 6 point hattrick 0-5 to 7-5 comeback if I’m not mistaken
I lived in Colorado during the Av's '96, '01 Cups (and still do) and saw Forsberg then. Seeing that #1 goal, my reaction was "Yeah, THAT'S a Forsberg goal!" That's what I came here to see.
Forsberg is my dad's top 5 player of all time. After watching a lot of highlights and even full games of him playing, I understand why. He would own and scare teams today, specially in the playoffs. I wish I had seen him play live.
One of my favorite players to watch, along with Datsyuk. As a Wings fan, it was so bittersweet to watch him dominate my team for so many years.
Same. As an Aves fan, Datsyuk was one of my favorite players to watch
I’m a ducks fan and this guy was a duck hunter, never seen a player dominate a single team so much before…
This guy was like peak Datsyuk and Zetterberg combined, and one of the strongest skaters with the puck. If not for injuries and playing during the most defensive era in modern hockey, he would be discussed as the greatest of all time.
Peter The Great
He was like the perfect mix between Gretzky amd Lindros.
Foppa's ability to control the puck was unparallel. It honestly looked at times like the puck was glued to his stick.
Im also number 21
Dock i landslaget hade du väl inte alltid 21 Loui?
@@ulfromedahl yes
@@Kimchi203010 Vi leker med tanken att du inte skulle få ha nummer 21. Vilket nummer skulle du ta då?
Ur cute loui
Jörgen Jönsson hade nr 21
Favourite player of all time !
Me too
Watching this is a throwback to childhood. Forsberg was always my favorite player growing up
One of the best of all-time.
In the conversation of best player ever
He had the best hands in the NHL, maybe only rivaled by Datsyuk, but he had the strength and grit everyone else with buttery smooth hands lacked. If the Hockey Mount Rushmore is Gretzky, Howe, Orr, and Lemieux, then Forsberg is the Statue of Liberty
1-Forsberg 2-Orr- 3-Lemieux 4-Gretzky 5-Howe/Richard like it or not this is my take about whos the best.
What a player, to this day I still can't believe he played a game with a ruptured spleen..
@21tombombadil OMG...I didn't know that. It's always fun when he shows up at Avs games. Fans love him ❤️
God Tier Balance. Insane stick control of the puck.
Been searching these up enough over the years, so glad to have another one to watch!
The dude was a beast. At only 6ft but 200 pounds he was almost impossible to get the puck off of. Elite skills but what I most remember about him was his work in the corners. He always seemed to end up with the puck. One of the very Greats! He would probably be on my first line of the all great team.
bourque said he was the strongest player he ever played against
i was born a detroit fan and have always been one it was hard not be in awe of forsberg back in the day
By far the best player on any era. Some have more points, but as a whole they were nowhere near.
As a Red Wings fan I HATED Forsberg growing up. What an amazing player to have on your team
@maceightyseven Ya Lidstrom is my favorite defensemen of all time, those late 90's early 2000's Wings were amazing. Datsyuk and Zetterberg did a great job taking over from them. Here's to hoping Raymond will help us get back to a hint of our former glory! Such a shame we missed out on Lafreniere, dropping in last years draft was so dissapointing.
Great thing about hockey fans is they can absolutely hate a player of a rival team and yet still love them for their skills.....
@@ukraineupdates9380 Well i don't think you should be sad about missing Lafraniere looking at the way Raymond and Seider have played so far
Legend
Severely underrated player. One of the goats
There are a handful of players since him that have been able to protect the puck and out muscle guys consistently. He was an absolute beast, as well as being so skilled. He wanted to control the game and he could, such a smart, determined player.
Miss watching him play
The greatest!
OMG he went almost effortlessly through freaking Nick Lidstrom! Never saw that clip before. Hats off.
I miss him so much in the NHL. The game will never be the same.
Imagine what he could do in today's hockey where you don't have to carry defencemens on your back to get things done
Also give him no two line passes and 4-5 PPs a game. Guys like Forsberg and Bure would have feasted.
Much like Lemieux
@@sojiroseta98 Lemiuex would've put up 250 pts fr.
what a legend. the complete player
SImply the mold you would use to create a hockey player. Not the greatest at any one skill, but the complete package armed with the most important thing - his mentality and sheer want/need to compete.
#5 my fav goal ever. forsberg was like maradona. straight into the thick of it and then somehow got through and scored. watch the crowd after that goal, even the avs fans are more confused than celebrating, you have to watch the replay over and over too grasp how it was possible
remember every morning checking the Nhl game results on text-tv ( In Sweden) checking if Foppa ( P.Forsberg) had goals/assists .
Same with Sundin. And them together in world Cups and Olympics. when his foot gave up returning to Colorado i was devastated. Complete player
Forsberg is in my top 5 all time. If you had to draft a team from the all time greats you have to seriously consider getting him first. Not because he is the best scorer/player ever but because how much of a beast he is to play against! The most complete player ever.
One of the very best of all time
Peter Forsberg. Legend in Sweden. Best Swedish player ever.
One off the best in NHL ever 👍
Forsberg doing the forsberg is some inception type stuff.
It is called the Kenta Nilsson. Scored against USA in 1989.
czcams.com/video/QobAlzxDdXc/video.html
The greatest hockey player i have ever seen. Outside of goalies he is my most favorite player
Unfortunately injuries limited Forsberg to 11 seasons, with many games missed along the way. We all missed out on more of Forsberg being impossibly smooth and making defenders and goalies look silly. He scored more than a point per game in his first 10 seasons. He posted 55 points in 57 games in the 11th. He was never once a minus player. He was usually heavy on the plus side of things. His magnum opus was in 2002-‘03, when he won the Heart Trophy with league high marks in assists (77), points (106), and +/- (52). The puck gravitated towards his stick and remained stuck to it’s blade for as long as Peter wanted it there. He dominated the game and never scored more than 30 goals in a season. He won the Calder. He won the Hart. He’s a 2x Cup winner. He’s got a gold medal and is an Olympic hero. Few, if any, were as smooth as Forsberg on the ice. (Maybe Datsyk?) He’s a hockey legend.
The coolest about most of the plays and goals was scored in the playoffs..
He was a playoff beast for sure.
That moment when a player makes Lindstrom look like a bottom pair defensive men
Lindstrom?
Anytime you make Nick Lidstrom look like a fool, you know just how damn good you are.
True Magician, True Legend!
My favourite complete player of all time. So many amazing plays missing on this list though :(
It really stands out how much holding and hooking there was in that era. What a bull of a player though - strength and skill.
Favorite player to watch Forsbergs game was so dominate.
For me he is surtenly in the top 5 of all time, just amazing player. The ones that think different cant realy know much about hockey. Im not saying he was better than Gretzky but if Gretzky would have played the same era as Forsberg clutch and grab and been treated the same way he would have ashieved less.
True
Seriously one of the greatest to ever play the game. I assume he's in the HOF ?
Unreal skill level and so strong on the puck.
You could make a top 100 Forsberg plays and all those plays would be as amazing as these ones.
Best thing to come out of Sweden since ABBA.
and the wrench
What about the cheese slicer...!
There will never be another quite like Foppa.
Hello there
The most complete forward to play the game imo. He could take over at will.
I came here from the Datsyuk Top 10 to see a REAL player, not just a fancy pants. Forsberg was absolutely mindblowing. Very few I would take for my team before him.
King Forsberg!
Loved those Avs V Red Wings games in the 90s!
Fabulous vision and impossible to separate him from the puck.....
If you know your hockey you can easily figure out why #2 was put their . Undressed and embarrassed the smartest defensemen in NHL history. Only time I've seen Lidstrom make a mistake and not make up for it .
Bure did him in to.
Forsbergs prime was the best player ever.
Великий игрок!
Кумир моего детства)
Imagine Forsberg playing in the McDavid era. One couldn't possibly stop him without facing a 5 on 3 for some 4-6 minutes.
Yes, he would pour in points if he played in this era.
Peter The Great is without a doubt the best player of all time.
He was such an absolute monster! If only the Leafs could ever have 1 player of this caliber.
He's so good
I love Foppa play,he is the Best!
Absolutely.
Could have easily been up there with Howe, Messier and Jagr in points if he wasn't hurt half the time.
Yep I completely agree, if not for injuries he could have gone down as a top 5 player of all time
@@RIPJimmyA7X he’s #8 all time in PPG. But I agree, he’d be top 5 in points all time if it weren’t for the injuries.
@@jakestevenson6588 ya top 10, top 5 he'd be somewhere around there. To me just as far as talent alone without looking at points or anything, personally I have him as the 5th most skilled player to ever play
He is also played through the worst years of clutch and grab hockey. He is one of my favorite players of all time along with Sakic and Yzerman.
@@AnEvolvingApe yep that's another thing as well, if he played with the time and space of today no one would ever get the puck off his stick
Adam Deadmarshs advice when playing against Peter was to go change and let somebody else play against him! What a monster he was in the Clutch & Grab Era times, dominance on the ice!
Forsberg is my #3 Center all time. The guy took over games like nobody else ever. A smaller smarter Eric Lindros.
So many great goals from Peter "foppa" Forsberg in this Video. I was hoping to see the goal from 1994 in the Swedish national team though, winning the Olympics.
GOAT
The best
Move over McDavid, who said you need top speed to make it in the show?! If anything, Forsberg's pace shaped him into the puck protecting juggernaut we've all come to know and love. A crying shame injuries got to him in the end. When you constantly have to shake your coverage, you're bound to be on the receiving end of some violence, sadly.
insane cross-check from Hatcher i felt the pain watching it live. The slash he received also every time he passed around a guy he would receive an axe-swing slash to the wrist. But if he had a carreer like Joe Sakic his number would have been Top 2 ever.Anyway he is the best player ever to play in NHL.
just think of the points he would put up in todays game, his prime was when scoring was way down
Or if he could have stayed healthy!
@@qpThePlagueqp21 then he had to change his offensive playstyle, and thats something he couldn't do
and shoot the puck more. that sick accuracy
Top 3 players of all time! No doubt
Da GOAT
Please more classic player top 10s
2:21 This hook haha
And the hook on play #4. Can you imagine him playing now? He’d always have the puck.
The Avalanche vs Red Wings era was a great time to be alive
That A on his sweater stands for Awesome.
I found myself focusing more on all the hacking, slashing and hooking than the actual highlights
That's the late 90's era of hockey for you.
95% of these highlights there would be penalties against the opposing team in todays NHL
A perfect hockey player. All the great qualities Swedes are known for supported the brute strength of an American :)
A legend of the game no doubt. Now just imagine an all time team including anybody they drafted or anybody who ever played for the Quebec/Colorado team it would be stacked in the forward department. of they had Roy in net:
- Peter Šťastný
- Joe Sakic
- Peter Forsberg
- Eric Lindros
- Mats Sundin
- Owen Nolan
- Michel Goulet
- Real Cloutier
- Patrick Roy
- Anton Šťastný
- Marián Šťastný
- Mackinnon
- Matt Duchene
- Rantanen
- Landeskog

That stick of rob blake at 1:42 gotta be illegal haha
How many penalties is there in this video?
No.
couple dozens
As a Swede, as a Redwing fan and having Nicklas Lidström as my favorite player of all time... That moment; 03:58 ....
I don't know what to say...
💯 🐐
Cool!
The look of disbelief on some of the tenders.
If the clutch n trap era can not hold on Forsberg, nowadays he would take off in any games.
Him and Roy inspired me to skate up.
