  • Continuing to head east to Alabama we make several Harvest Host stopovers. One is beautiful but with a surprise LOW BRIDGE entrance. Wow! Sondra freaked out. The stay was very unique and a super cool experience in Montana. Fueling at an un-manned automatic fuel station was quite an experience with detours and tight spaces. The travels continue across this great country of ours.

    David, remember the first time I took the wife over Donner Summit in a snow storm pulling doubles. She was a nervous wreck 😂🤣. Finally told her to go and climbing in the sleeper. Just as she was about to head for the sleeper two slope dopes came flying by my on my left side. I told her we will be seeing them again. Next statement was true. One went one way and the other went the other direction. They danced in circles and I just point the nose of the truck for the middle of the dance. One ended up on my left and the other on my right in a snow bank. Of course I stopped and checked to see if they where ok. Which they where. Told them both to enjoy there stay and notified CHP.
    Needless to say when Cindy gets nervous she heads for her little box🤣😂.

    I noticed that your commercial 5th wheel hitch is behind your tandems, has this raised any weight distribution issues? Steer tires? Did spacecraft move your coach axles a little forward to alleviate some pin weight? What is your pin weight? is it a standard FW35 5th wheel hitch? Is it greaseless? I want to put a 1000 gal. of potable water behind my sleeper in place of a vehicle. So needless to say I want as much room as is needed to accomplish that.

    • @bigtruckbigtravels
      @bigtruckbigtravels  Před rokem

      Hey Seth, lots of questions! Lol. No weight distribution issues. 13K lbs pin weight. Steers are 11K when hooked up with Smart car (13K normally). SC did not move the axles, actually, they are closer to a semi-trailer configuration. Our hitch is a commercial Jost hitch, 55K lbs weight rating and definitely NOT greaseless! Lol. All hooked up, everything rides great. It acts as one unit. Breaking is fantastic since we have air disc all the way around.

      Thanks for the comments Stephen and yes, it's a Space Craft. We designed it and they built it. A lot of "firsts" for them on our "special unit". It's 46'6" long and weighs in at a husky 42,000 lbs. Our pin weight is 13,000 lbs.

      @mrsbigtruckbigtravels726 Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the comment Stephen! Being so husky has both advantages (super stable) and disadvantages (not very fuel efficient). The trailer is built with a semi chassis design and air suspension and air disc brakes - which we've had to use. 😬

      Hey 2Wheel- Highest point: Voyager 13'2", Orion 13'5"
      In 2017, we took our whole rig to Alaska and loved it so much we decided to go back this year. There were some areas we couldn't get to such camping in Denali or getting into a few state park areas plus driving up to Prudhoe Bay and a few places we didn't feel comfortable talking the whole rig. Our Class C has 4 wheel drive so we'll go into a few places which are a bit more remote. 😀 Good luck on the build, let us know if you have any questions.
