    Everybody says 250s, especially cruiser 250s are too small for long distance highways, but I've ridden my virago 250 a decent amount on highways. I think if I had a throttle lock and a sprocket change to fix the high revs it would perform marvelously. You can't beat the fuel mileage on em either. Its literally the perfect size bike for my frame, so who cares if you can't race others at 100 mph? Beats driving :)

      @ALICATMOTO  Před 2 lety +2

      I feel the same. Not good for long distance but it does well for zipping to the next town. Besides, the back roads are more fun to ride in my opinion.

      I agree with you in some points but fuel consumption is not something you can still say it's something special only for the rebel, you can literally go for the Rebel 300 or 500 and get the same/almost the same (for the 500) fuel consumption with a very good top speed and acceleration. I own a nighthawk, it has the same engine than the rebel and although I love it, it's gutless for the highway and it feels almost even dangerous when you see almost any other vehicle is going faster than you

    I ride a 98 Rebel 250 here in the UK . I ride on the motorways often . Steady 60 mph mile after mile . The Rebel is the most comfortable and relaxed bike I have ever owned . I love it It's a keeper for sure . It's only done 3000 miles from new so should last me a long while . Nice video . Best wishes from the UK .

    I recently purchased a 2008 Honda 250 Rebel, not sure why, I guess it seemed like a good buy for $1200. It is clean with very low miles, just over 11K. I geared up my front and rear sprockets. and its a thrill to ride this little Rebel, its so much fun that I now use it mostly for commuting daily (splitting traffic) to and from work, East Los Angeles to Redondo Beach, even in the pouring rain, 50 miles round trip. I love this bike, I call it El Machete. Sometimes I take a short cut as the sun sets over the L.A. skyline through the San Gabriel Riverbed, Its a Honda, this bike brings it all back. I started off riding mini bikes almost 40 years ago, time fly's. I have owned many different motorcycles. Since I got my Rebel, my CBR 1100 BlackBird has been sitting allot more.

      I haven't ridden any other bikes to compare it to but I think mine handles quite well. I find it quite nimble. Perfect for a beginner or experienced rider. My Dad has ridden my bike a few times and each time he compliments how fun it is to ride. He's had several bikes over the years and is an experienced rider and he tells me I have good little bike. I weigh 240, and have had my Rebel 250 up to 82 mph GPS on the highway. You can ride a Rebel 250 all day at full throttle without hurting anything. And if it is properly maintained you can do it for close to 100,000 miles. Just remember you are riding on tube type tires that are nowhere near as safe as tubeless tires. They go flat immediately when punctured, and as I found out the hard way, can pop like a balloon. The highway speed limit in my state is 75 mph, but most everybody goes nearly 20 mph over that. I stay in the right lane on small bikes, but you still have to constantly watch your mirrors and be ready to pull onto the shoulder.
    I have a Yamaha XT225 dual sport, mostly for off road riding, A Royal Enfield Bullet 500 for riding on local roads at about 55 mph, just enjoying the feel and sound of that long stroke single, a 1997 model Kawasaki Vulcan 750 that I bought new, which currently has 129,000 miles on it, all mine, that I use for long distance trips, a 2006 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 that I use for 100-200ish mile rides, again mostly to just enjoy the sound and feel. And of course my 2016 Honda Rebel 250, which I have mostly because I just love Honda Rebels (through 2016) so much. I've had 4 since 1985. It mostly gets ridden in town and on local country roads.

      I owned a 1987 250cc Rebel in 1988. I only gave $1200 for a one year old bike. I rode it for a couple months and sold it for a profit.
      Now I am 70 years old and my wife and I have rode well over 300,000 miles on mostly Japanese motorcycles and four Harleys. But due to some very serious health issues my wife can no longer ride and I just want something to go for a short ride now and then.
      I thought about buying a new 2023 Red Triumph Speed Twin Chrome, but it would cost over $13,000 after all the fees and a few options. I also thought about a Kawaski Vulcon S, but it would cost about $10,000 after the fees and a few options.
      So now I found a used 2013 Honda 250cc Rebel with only 1700 miles for $2000. I think I might go after the Rebel and add a small windshield and change the rear spockert to a 30 tooth to relax the engine RPM at highway speeds. I won't be going on long trips like we use to, just be riding locally and the Rebel is all I need.

    Gotta giggle about the scooter comment, I own a NSS250 Honda Reflex scooter and even with my 240 pounds of fat butt I regularly easily blow the handlebars off of 250 Rebels any time any where. Not slamming Rebels because I loved both of the 250 Rebels that I have owned in the past. They are great and extremely durable machines and will easily go 70 mph all day long but I needed something much more comfy and because of my old age arthritis setting in I needed something where I could step through instead of the painful climb over, and I found it in my Reflex scooter. The thing I did not expext and learned in the first month of ownership was the awesome 85 mpg along with the GPS certified 86 mph top speed on a flat road with no wind. Also I never had to wear a backpack ever again and with the under seat storage and the 31 litre tail box I can bring home 2 weeks worth of groceries in one trip. All that being said, I would hold onto that little Rebel as long as you can afford to because they are great bikes, they were just never ment to be fast or very comfy on the butt for long 5 to 8 hour rides which I now regularly can do on the Reflex. I just got home from a 6 hour ride just before watching this video. Later folks, gotta go for a scooter ride!!😁

      @@ALICATMOTO Ali I think we may have got our wires crossed on the speed thing. I don't think you need a faster bike at all unless that is something you want and have a taste for more speed. All I knew when I bought my Reflex was that it is a Honda and I like Honda. I did not do research ahead of the purchase because in my life time I have owned MANY Honda motorcycles and already trusted the brand and was rewarded with Honda quality. In my past I have owned nothing but crotch rockets and muscle bikes of all Japanese brands and that was fun but speed and quarter mile times just are not needed for a everyday get around town bike and it took a lifetime for me to learn that... the arthritis in my back, hips, and knees forced me to learn that. Later Ali, gotta go for a scooter ride!!😁

    Not enough people appreciate smaller bikes for what they are and what they can do and instead focus on what they're not and what they can't do. You haven't fallen for that so I'd say you have a great attitude. I've been riding about 40 years & I can tell you no matter what you ride short of a full dress tourer or a big adventure bike (I've had them all), no bike is much fun above 70mph or thereabouts on the highway for very long. What do I ride at the moment? A Honda CBR250R, it's great fun, didn't cost much, cheap to run & I don't need to get precious about it. I'll take it from UK to France for some light touring/camping this year. Off the highways enjoying the scenery...

    Nice one Ali totally agree ! you ride what you enjoy at the pace you want and that's it in a nutshell . I ride an XJR 1200 Yamaha it's a lovely bike but it is heavy and old .this year I am gonna add a twin cylinder to my garage ."Sometimes" well anytime you can have just as much fun on a smaller cc bike as a bigger one, especially on twisty roads. Motorways/highways are very boring roads on any bike . To enjoy the ride ya don't need to be hitting the redline better to just chill and enjoy the scenery and the ride rather than having to narrow your focus to the road ahead . Having to have tunnel vision on the road ahead getting of the other end exhausted is not so enjoyable 😄.

    I traded for a 250cc Rebel back in the 1980's, rode it for a couple months and sold it. I just sold a $37,000 Harley which broke down four times within the first year of ownership. I will NEVER buy another Harley. (or Yamaha, had trouble with them too)
    My wife and I have rode well over 300,000 miles on motorcycles, mostly Japanese models and four Harleys. But due to her many serious health issues she can no longer ride with me. So now I want something just to go for a spin once in a while. So now I found a 2013 Honda 250cc Rebel with only 1700 miles for $2000.

    I road to Yellow Stone National Park and the interstate runs at 80 mph; my GSA 1250 had no problem with the high speed. Riding a low cc bike at high speed results in higher vibration, and you run close to the redline. My wife wants a small bike, and a 250 would be a challenge for her.

    • @ALICATMOTO
      @ALICATMOTO  Před 23 dny

      I agree, my bike definitely buzzes up the road as high speed with the engine just zinging 😆 I ride at 100 kmph often and it does fine. The lady who owned the bike before me used it for highway riding for years so it's broke in good. I think Honda's are tough and can handle it. The main thing for me is the gusts of wind I get from big rigs and such. I get knocked around a bit when they go by but not enough to keep me from riding the way I do. I'll upgrade eventually. I hope your wife finds the right bike for her. I'm sure she will enjoy riding. Thanks for watching and commenting! 😊

      Yup! As long as you're not obstructing traffic. I've ridden my 250cc at a legal speed of 110 kmph on the highway just fine. I wouldn't want to go any faster on it tho because it's only a small motor and revs high. The woman I bought my bike from used it for highway riding frequently for a few years before moving on to a bigger bike.
