Im doing my 2000 tundra olive drab. I messed up because I got close in some areas and when the sun hits it during the day it looks shiny on some spots and rough of others. For those that are doing this make sure your last coat is roughly 2-3 feet away and your doing it in circles back and forth to even everything out and no lines show as well. I had to pretty much use some of my last bottles to add another coat instead of doing my black accents and now I gotta order more. And take your tape off when your done or it’ll be hard once it’s cured.
Yep your right about the taping part. Should be taken off about 60 mins after final coat. I had a couple shiny spots too but, they faded out when it baked on in the sun. I found that spraying from 8-10 inches away from the surface for all coats was the best for me. All depends on the desired texture.

I've been wanting to do this with mine. I bought a kit, then sold the k1500 I was going to do. I have a 97 12 valve now and at 536,000 kilometers, most of that being around Chilliwack and stuff, you can imagine the body isn't too great. But the frames good and I'd like to try and save it. Really like the look of the texture as well. Some people have complained about the sun bleaching it, and inconsistently at that. But I reckon with regular canned paint you could touch up and parts that look sad. Good job!
Yeah it turns out pretty good if you get a nice spray pattern going. I have heard about the sun bleaching it, but I haven’t noticed anything like that yet.

They say to let it cure for a good 72 hours before putting stress on it but I drove it after 48 hours and it was fine. But yes Ontario weather is very unpredictable. I would say to prepare for a full 48 hour cure at minimum. Outside temperature is also a factor in cure time. It was very hot out when I painted mine so it took less curing time.
One more question...the plastic piece that sits between hood and windshield (that the windshield wipers lay) did u take off blades and paint that or did u tape it off with windshield. I'll be painting my mirrors handles and a couple other plastic pieces but wasn't sure what to do with that piece. I mean will it hurts it if I do paint it? It's so faded
I personally didn’t paint mine. I just taped it off. If you wanted to, I’m sure it would be okay to paint it. Make sure you sand any plastics that your painting really well and also use an adhesive promoter on them. Without the adhesive promoter, any plastics you paint won’t last long.

Honestly man you should be proud of yourself. You gave it a go and it turned out really well. I think that paint job fits the truck perfectly. Random question - how many gallons is your compressor and at what PSI did you spray - how often did you have to stop for it to reload and get back to proper psi? Cheers.
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback! I used a fairly small compressor. I think it’s an 8 gallon compressor. Raptor recommends to spray at 40 - 60 psi. The lower the psi, the more of a rough texture you will get and the higher the psi will make the texture smoother. Hopefully that helps. I know some people that sprayed the raptor at 100psi so that it made a super smooth texture.

You’ll need a compressor that can spray at a constant 60 psi minimum, the raptor liner kit, whatever tint of colour you want, adhesion promoter for any plastics, sand paper as well as wax and grease remover. You will also need a proper primer for any body work or exposed metal you may have.
Also I have seen some people tape their lights off and some take them out. Does it make a big difference if I just tape mine off? On a 03 dodge ram 2500?

It will cover minor dents and imperfections but not everything. All depends on how thick you coat the vehicle. I was able to hide some bodywork with it.
Looks great but I'm curious how your handles turned out? Can u not use the key hole? And did it make the handle hard to use at all? I'm looking into doing my 03 ram 2500 and am not sure about my handles
The handles turned out fine. They still work as they should. You defiantly have to cover the keyhole with some tape when painting though. Also thanks for watching.

I'm just doing it to my 04 RAM, so should be similar. I will be taping off the handles, looks better IMO. I also took out the head lamps, tail lamps, fog lamps, 3rd brake light and removed the door cards and seals as well. Just finished removing all the rust and treat it with some epoxy rust treatment, will do the painting soon. Just answer if you have any more questions.

Yup it’s still holding up great. No peeling or anything. Texture and colour is all still there. I will be doing a video in the early spring to show an update of how it looks and has held up through the salty winter here in Canada.
2 months later and I'm still coming back to look at this lol warmer weather is coming I'll definitely be doin this to mine thanks for the honest review tho man

Yup, only two kits. Did my whole truck with 2 heavier coats and a final light coat. Still have 1 bottle left over for any touch ups I might need to do in the future.
@@eightys_style6077 No problem! I found that the raptor gun doesn’t fully empty the bottles so once you go through the first kit pour the remainder of each bottle into one and you will get more out of it.

I’m happy with how it turned out. I mentioned in the video that you spray at whatever PSI is the desired texture. A better spray gun could have helped with the blobs as well.

I've been wanting to do this with mine. I bought a kit, then sold the k1500 I was going to do. Around 80 psi. Had my little compressor set to 85psi because it would drop to 80psi under pressure.

Holding up very well. You should definitely do your truck if you like the textured look.

Planning on doing my 1500. How long did it take to fully cure? Ontario weather has been unpredictable these few years!

If you have a decent compressor I would recommend trying 60 psi when you spray.

Yep. I just sprayed the best I could. Can’t really tell unless you look super close.

Whatever you prefer. I think taking them off would be the best and easiest but it shouldn’t matter.

You didn’t need as much because you went black on black if it were a different color you would have coverage issues

You need to be spraying that at 60-80psi and there’s no way your little compressor is keeping up which is the cause of all the blobs.
