Glorious. It's quite amazing how Mira Nair manages to go inside the lives of two diametrically different world (which probably does not even understand how the other lives), in her two best. The seedy underbelly dwellers of the Maximum City in Salaam Bombay, and the not-quite-posh-but-almost of the capital in Monsoon Wedding.
A contender for our best living director?
Some people are of the opinion that it got nominated for being a poverty porn but it's not. The same way that Pather Panchali isn't a poverty porn. There's nothing wrong in an authentic and heartfelt depiction of poverty, misery and tragedy. Infact by this logic majority of Sharatchandra's classics would be considered poverty or misery porn which they are not.
I googled the actors of Salaam Bombay.. it reads.." Shafiq Syed is a former Indian child actor turned auto rickshaw driver." So the question I want to ask ... Did no one care after the film?
on the 30th anniversary dvd extras they caught up with him and yes he was a rickshaw driver for a while and was very sad his career didn't take off, but he is now a camera man for films in bangalore and is married with kids and happy! the film makers also created salam balak trust a charity that helps street kids.
I am also shocked when I see him after many year on Google search.but who cares
Talent has no value
Salaam Anupama!
For bringing old gems into our active memory.

Great movie indeed ...exposes the harsh reality of life.

Sorry for being off topic. Anupama ji looks extremely pretty in this video.
sad that Mira Nair doesnt make such desi rooted films anymore. she clearly had an eye for details. although i absolutely love her other movies specially The Namesake.. i feel there are still many stories in india she can tell.
Hey Ashish, I loved Namesake too! - AC
@@FilmCompanion just love your work Anupama ma'am
Please if possible, provide link to the script of these films
Music by Dr. L subramanian is superb
Oscar awards favorite genre - Poverty Porn.
👏👏👏👏👏👏
This is not porn my friend. This is a world you have no effin clue about. So shut up and move on. Salaam Bombay is glorious, and will remain so forever. As Bob Dylan had said - Don't criticize what you don't understand.
@@baganboy5596 it's "Don't criticize what you can't understand".
@@baganboy5596 forget about wat Bob dylan said...
Listen to me..
"just bcoz smone criticize smthng which you appreciate it, doesn't mean he couldn't understand rather he might hv different point of view on it "
🤓
@@baganboy5596 I don't think Tony meant to criticize showing of poverty or the poverty itself but rather that Oscars grossly favour movies when poverty is involved rather than good technical movies which have good content too
@@TheShy007 That is true. You have a better memory than I.

Grande film sulle miserie e sulle disperazione per sopravvivere per colpa delle caste e ingigantito da decenni e decenni di sfruttamento e emarginazione causate dalle colonie inglesi per ingrassare la loro nobiltà
it should have got oscar..........but a lame spin off like slum dog got eight oscars.........this film is 20 times better than slum dogg..........
Befikre 4/5 stars😂🤣😂😂🤣
